Juvenile Games

Under 15 hurling

Following their unbeaten run in the league, the Under 15s took to the field on Sunday morning knowing that a win would secure a place in Division 1 next season.  However, after a long gap in competitive fixtures for the lads it was Ballinteer who came out on top in the semi final.  The lads had played some fantastic hurling throughout the year but were without several key players due to injuries which made it a more difficult challenge.  It was a big disappointment for all concerned particularly as the team were clear winners of the league on the basis of games played.  However, the team were gracious in defeat and plan to use their disappointment to go one better next year.  A special mention for Colm, Killian and Ramona who looked after the lads so well throughout the year and to all the parents who supported the team, brought the lads to training and gave great encouragement to all.  A particular thank you to Ciarán O’Murchú from Clanna Gael who trained the combined team throughout the year and who celebrated, with his wife Áine, the birth of his son Seanán who arrived on Saturday!

Girls Championships/Cups

Div 4 Shield Final  Templeogue 3 -5 Scoil Ui Chonaill 1 – 8

On a pleasant but extremely windy October Saturday afternoon Scoil lost by 3 points to Templeogue. This was a ding dong battle, with Scoil of Div 5 more than matching Templeogue of Div 3. It was a game Scoil could have and should have won, but  the clinical finishing of the league campaign was absent, and some poor defending in the first half gifted Templeogue 3 goals.

Scoil were out of the blocks really fast, winning a lot of ball, but not taking their chances. Two excellent point scores and 4 wides was all there was to show for their efforts. Then a bit of sloppy play sees a promising attack, with Scoil in a good scoring position, a corner forward can make a simple pass to to half forward and Scoil will have a score. Instead, a bit of dilly dallying sees the ball lost, and four passes later in the back of Scoil net. Scoil respond excellently creating 3 goal scoring chances, but one excellent save and two just wide and they go a begging. Templeogue puts some good moves togther and with clinical finishing add 1 goal and 2 points. Scoil come back with another two delightful points from distance from Eimear Canty and Ella deBruin. Ella wins a ball in midfield is powering forward, and is fouled. Takes her time with the free kick, takes aim, high ball in over the keeper ‘s head, back of the net. Scoil 1 – 4 Templeogue 2 – 2. Scoil then surrender another cheap goal. Another great response from Scoil with a fine point from Eimear Canty, again from distance. Half time Scoil 1 – 5 Templeogue 3 – 2.

Scoil playing against an ever increasing wind in the second half, put togther some excellent attacking moves, but the end product is missing. A fine point from Ella deBruin bring Scoil within 2 points. Templeogue add another two points. Then a big moment . A fine Scoil move sees Aoife McGrath through on goal and just as she is about to kick for goal, she’s fouled. Ref gives a 21m free. Aoife takes her point. Scoil add another point, to bring the score Scoil 1 – 8 Templeogue 3 – 4. More pressure for Scoil with some fine link up play, sees Ciara Marshall driving forward and unleash a tremendous shot from 30 meter, and it’s heading for the top  right hand corner, only to see Templeogue keeper make a tremendous save. This is then follow by three wides,  from Triona,  Aoife , and Eimear. Then Meadbh Hanley  is through one on one with the keeper, and another fantastic save. Templeogue pour forward and some fantastic defending from Emma Murphy, Caelin NiBhroin, Rachel Nolan and Ella DeBruin see Templeogue attacks repelled, but they add another point from distance. Catherine McCluskey has a chance to reduce the deficit but her shot for a point is about 6 inches wide. How unlucky. Final score Templeogue 3 – 5 Scoil Ui Chonaill 1 -8.

As with the previous weeks efforts against Kilmacud, this was another fine display by the Scoil Ui Chonaill u13. A GREAT TEAM EFFORT. The defeat clouds the feeling of what was an excellent performance again.  This U13 team have tons of skill, together with great heart and spirit. They play with great skill, commitment and in a very fair and sporting manner. They are to be highly commended for their efforts, and long may they continue to develop and progress next season when they can look forward to another strong  league performance and hopefully the Div 4 league title.  A special mention to Eimear,  Triona,  Aoife, Ella, and Rachel H, who braved the elements on a wet and ferociously windy Firday evening to put in extra preparation for Saturday’s final.  Remember  Scoil Ui Chonaill  girls u13 team  are Div 5 U13 champions. Comhghairdeas agus Buala Bos mhor daoibh go leir (Mark)

Under 15 Girls Championship Div 2 Final Clanna Gael 4-7 Scoil Uí Chonaill  0-6

A great performance by the Under 15s to reach the Division 2 championship final where they met Clanna Gael from Division 1 which probably counted to give them an extra edge in this game.  Well done to all the Players, Management, Parents and Supporters on a very good season.

Under 10 Boys Football Blitz

The teams playing in the U 10 blitz last Saturday were: Scoil Uí Chonaill, Parnells, Naomh Barróg and Craobh Ciarán.

First up for Scoil was Parnells and I’m glad to say we won by a lot.   Round 2 for Scoil was a tight match versus Naomh Barróg but in the end we won by a point.  Last for Scoil was a tough game against Craobh Ciarán, we were winning for a bit but in the end they came back and beat us.  So in the end it was 2 out of 3 for Scoil, they played very well.   All the members of the teams went home happily with their medals and goodie bags.

Under 13 Boys Hurling

Great performance on Saturday afternoon in U13 hurling. A team comprising 7 u12s put Crumlin to the pin of their collar in a game of 2 halves played in a ferocious wind in Pearse Park. Great battling performance lads. You did Scoil proud.  (Stephen) Well supported by the Scoil U12 panel, the team headed over to Crumlin for their closing match of the 2014 hurling league.  The match was played in gale-force conditions with Scoil playing against the wind in a very difficult first half which ended 7-6 to no score.   Putting the 1st half score behind them the lads didn’t drop the heads, and fought back skillfully & bravely to score 1-7 with the final score ending at 8-6 to 1-7.  A defeat but still a brave effort from all 14 lads who can finish their season with pride.  Special thanks to everyone who made the effort to be there – some coming directly from other sporting events.  (Neil)

Under 11 Girls

This week our trip was to neighouring Naomh Barróg in Kilbarrick who sportingly agreed to play fifteen a side rather than have  girls sitting on the sideline. There was a very strong breeze and in the first half the sun made it almost impossible to see one goalmouth.  Barróg got off to a good start with a point but we quickly equalized.  They added two further points in the first half while we slammed home a goal and another point which meant Barróg were leading at half time by two points because our goal was worth only one point. Brian had to leave at half time as did Izzy from the goalmouth she had defended so well but Siofra D stepped into the breach and with her firmly in control we were in for a hugely exciting second half. This was ably managed by Corey on one side of the pitch and Larry at the other. The girls have never played so well and the parents were very vocal in their encouragement. Caoimhe Abby and Siofra M attacked with gusto and skill while Sadhbh Murphy  and Siobhan ensured they had a plentiful supply of ball. Jody and Kellyann were magnificent in defense keeping Naomh Barróg scoreless in the second half.  They were ably seconded by Gabrielle and Reailtín who also put their bodies on the line. Sadhbh Nic P grows stronger with every game and Meibhín now shows great anticipation. Eve was absolutely everywhere on the pitch and Ella too shows great improvement while Sara produced some great bursts of speed. The girls went up two more points. The icing on the cake was a last minute goal as the result of a great pass by Eimear to Caoimhe. Paul Keane was working and only arrived as we left the pitch but he was delighted to hear his training is paying off. Final score was Scoil 2 goals and 4 points to 3 points to Barróg.  Best wishes to Holly who hurt herself in a school game and is out of action for a few weeks. We hope Larry got that honey and lemon for the sore throat he got from shouting his encouragement.  Very well done girls. (Niamh)

Under 8 Football

On Saturday, it was the turn of St Sylvesters to travel to Clontarf for games in the Under 8 3 team league.  However, they had small numbers which is always a headache for the coaches who ‘persuaded’ some of ours to switch sides!  Great team work and wins for 2 of the 3 teams in all their games while the 3rd team were most unlucky to lose out in theirs.  Special mention for the coaches of this group who are very dedicated, committed and enthusiastic!  Training takes place every Tuesday in O’Connell School Astro pitch and you can see some photos on Facebook of last night’s session with over 40 juveniles in attendance.  Anyone with coaching experience is very welcome to support this group.

Halloween Camp

The annual Halloween Camp takes place from Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th Oct in the Club grounds.  All aged 4 -12 years are welcome to take part.  Check out more details at https://www.facebook.com/121763621261565/photos/a.134551799982747.23353.121763621261565/610422882395634/?type=1

Another mention for this weeks match report contributors – your never too young or too old to submit a report.  Lots of emotion and pride in our achievements!

Enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend too!
