Great day for the Club on Sunday – Division 2 football in 2015!
Adult games
What a day on Sunday as the intermediates achieved promotion to Division 2 and senior football status. The match started well with the Scoil players ready for action from the throw in. When the referee awarded a penalty following a rugby style tackle on Tiarnan Crowe there was silence among the supporters as Donncha stepped up to take the spot kick. Unfortunately for us, the goalkeeper made a fantastic save to keep Na Fianna in the game. However, shortly after Donncha scored a super goal and Scoil were ahead 1-6 to 0-6 at half time. The opposition had their best period of the game early in the second half and added four points to Scoil’s one in the first 10 minutes. The game was tense during the next 10 minutes with only one point added by each team while they traded two points for the final 10 leaving the result all square at full time, 0-13 to 1-10. While the first half of extra time went Na Fianna’s way they only added one score but it was the 2nd half where both teams gave everything they had to win the game. A magnificently converted ’45’ by Eoin O’Carroll saw Scoil go ahead at the end of scheduled time but during added time both teams added a point ensuring that the crowd were on a rollercoaster ride right to the end. The final Scoil score was driven over the bar by Aidan Mulvey who worked his way into a scoring position on the right hand side of the pitch much to the delight of the crowd. Fantastic support on the sidelines in Mobhi Road and every one of them was more than happy to hear the final whistle so the celebrations could begin.

Back to back promotion wins in the past two years is a fantastic result for the panel who have worked so hard and have had great support and leadership from their coach Declan O’Sullivan, management team of John Coady, Brian Kirwan and Mick O’Connell and the super organised Cormac Coady. The celebrations began with soup/sandwiches in Cumiskeys in Broadstone as the team and management savoured the result and then moved on to the Club where the party went on late into the night. A big thank you to Stephen Cumiskey, Ross Bissett (C&C Gleesons) and Sean O’Connell for helping out with the celebrations and to Alva who was a very welcoming host in the Club! Special mention also for the support from Dublin Port Company and Conor Ryan (Pan Euro Foods) who have supported the team throughout the year. The team would like to pass on their thanks to everyone who supported them during their campaign and who hopefully enjoyed the game on Sunday.

We also have a talented writer among our Members who has sent us this poem following Sunday’s game – thanks Niamh Crowe:
The Players waited anxiously
For the throw in to begin
On the sideling anticipation
Would we lose or would we win?
Hearts pounded as we watched
All the scores and the wides
Absolutely nothing to choose
Between opposing sides.
And when the final whistle blew
For extra time, we were nervous but we knew
That if we cheered them on our lads would show
Their pride in the jersey to the bitter end, and so
We urged them to remember ciall agus neart
They won with love of club, team spirit and heart!
It’s hard to put into words how much the win means to everyone in the Club but I would like to add my own comghairdeas to everyone involved.
Juvenile Games
Trip to Carlingford Sat 15th November
It was an early start for the 27 Scoil lads who headed off to the Carlingford Adventure Centre at 8.30am for the day last Saturday. We arrived by coach in the bright sunlight and after registration headed up the Mountain for “LaserCombat”, “27 kids with guns – fun was guaranteed” and not even severe flooding in the Village could dampen the lads’ spirits. After lunch it was back up the mountain for some “Zip Wiring” where the lads were joined in the treetops by big kids Marcus and Neil. The zip wiring was an excellent adventure where the lads really had to work together. There was fun on the bus back to Scoil where the lads took the chance to catch up on some quiet reading (!) before getting home. It was a great team-building trip and thankfully all returned in one piece. A big THANK YOU to Ronan Murphy who organised the bus from Bus Eireann.
Nursery
The Nursery / Naoinra continues every Saturday in Clontarf at 10am with lots of fun, games and skills development for all taking part. Last Saturday the juveniles trained at the hurling wall on the all weather surface and enjoyed themselves as they made the most of the break in the weather. Well done to the coaches and their assistants.
Club AGM
The Club AGM is scheduled for Thursday 27th November in the Clubhouse at 8pm. All members are invited to attend.
Why not come forward and take on a role in the Club or volunteer for a specific task – nominations and elections would be very welcome by all existing Executive members.
