Adult games

Both hurling teams played challenge games over the past few days.  The game on Sunday started just after 12 and both the teams and the Referee did a great job in the blizzard conditions in Alfie Byrne Road.  Then on Monday night the 2nd team played their challenge game in artic conditions again in Alfie Byrne Road.  Great dedication by all concerned as they work towards league games which start later this month.

The next round of adult football league fixtures, all away, are scheduled for Sunday 8th March.  Support for any of these games would be greatly appreciated!

Juveniles

Under 8-11 Coaching

Great excitement in the club tonight, as there was a special visitor from Kerry helping out on the coaching stations.  A big thank you to Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper for taking the time to work with our younger members.  Colm is a great ambassador for the game and always interested in working with Clubs.  Colm not only spent time on the training pitch tonight he also posed for lots of photos with players, parents and of course the Mentors who enjoyed the session greatly.  On behalf of the Club, we wish him all the best in his recovery from injury and look forward to seeing him play again for Kerry (although not against Dublin!).

Nursery

The Nursery team are in action every Saturday morning from 10am as they welcome the youngest members to our enclosed facilities in Clontarf.  Joanne and her team have a great crew and always look forward to welcoming new children to join the Naoinra / Nursery.  The focus is on co-ordination skills and fun – new members are welcome.

Under 8s

This week’s update from JP Well all good things. … Scoil UiChonaill U8’s 100% record ended today –

Won 2/ Lost 2 but my God all the kids gave it socks! Some of the “tackling” by opposition wouldn’t have been out of place in the MMF and Sophie in particular took a fair hammering in 1st match but true to our motto “tough as teak” she withstood same and kept going! Tara Galvin hope you’re very proud!  Special mention to Raphael, Tadhg and Luke who agreed to play with Craobh Chiaran as they were short players (with Luke scoring against us also! !).

Some great scores/play/defence by our crew with Alex scoring goal +2points from the many frees we earned but even though I constantly berate him for not passing more, Adam Ryan maintained his superb scoring record and probably scored the best individual goal I’ve seen at U8 level to date..take a bow!! As usual Alan, Fionn, Katerina, Conal, Nathan & co gave it 100% …Very Proud of the kids today…

Ronan added: Praise must go to Luke a Murphy who stepped up and led the way for 3 Scoil lads to play for Craobh so all the kids could get a game this morning….Scoil UiChonaill team 2 battled hard throughout with Neil McCartaigh scoring two great points in the first game but Craobh got three goals (2 from Luke!) and a point to win by one.

Under 16 Hurling Na Fianna 1-12 Scoil/Fontenoy 0-9

Well done to the Under 16 hurlers who played their first game in Division 1 last Saturday v Na Fianna in Mobhi Road.  Level at half time, we were well in the game and played some of the best hurling with the score at 1-3 to 0-6.  Both teams battled throughout this game and it was only in the closing stages that the more experienced home team pulled away.  Excellent performances on the day from Daragh, Odhran, Eoin and our Laochra Gael Eoin McKay.

Two special ‘Coaching the Coaches’ courses have been organised for the Club in our own facilities by Joanne and the Dublin County Board.

Scoil Neasain

The 45th Anniversary Celebration & Fundraiser last Friday night was a great success.  Mairead O’Sullivan and her fellow organisers were delighted with the event and the funds raised on the night.

GAA National Club Draw

The draw took place last weekend at the National Congress in Cavan.  Unfortunately we had no winner but at least there were a few Dublin based winners this year.  A big thank you once again to everyone who supported the draw in any way as it is a key source of funds for the Club.
