A big week for the under 14 girls who participate in Football Feile 2015 next Saturday.
Adult games
While the Division 4 game was postponed on Saturday evening, the 2nd team made the trip to Balbriggan on Sunday afternoon for their league fixture v O’Dwyers. A comprehensive win for our team with a score line of 3-19 to 0-4. Target man Martin Hewitt didn’t disappoint and followed his 1-6 in the previous game with 1-5 in this fixture. The scoreline also included some excellent points from Alistair Cassidy, Colin McDonagh, Paul Farrelly (1-2) and Kevin Purcell (1-2). The game also included our first penalty under the new rules. Plenty for the supporters to cheer and the tea and sandwiches after the game were also appreciated.
Next weekend sees the start of championship fixtures with games on Saturday and Sunday for the two teams. The home game on Saturday is Junior A championship which throws in at 6pm. The Clubhouse will be open too so why not drop in and support the team.
News just in!
A big win for the Ladies in the Division 4 Cup game this evening – final score Scoil 7-14 Skerries Harps 2-04. Well done.
A busy week next week with fixtures scheduled on Monday away to O’Tooles and then home to Cuala on Wednesday, both at 7.30pm
Keep an eye on Facebook / Twitter for updates on scheduled fixtures.
Juveniles
Nursery
The Nursery continues every Saturday in the Club with games and activities from 10am.
The players of the week from last Saturday’s Nursery were: Senan, Darren and Aodh.
Parents – How you can make the nursery better for your child
We have found that the kids love to have their parents involved in the nursery. Even if you have never played GAA, you’ll find that getting involved (even in a small way), is more enjoyable than standing on the sideline. To find out how even a small effort can make a big difference on Saturday mornings, have a word with Joanne or any of the coaches.
New members are always welcome!
Under 8s
An update from JP! U8’s footballers were away to Clann Mhuire Naul on Saturday and as usual gave it 110%. Despite being used to playing for either Team 1 or 2, we mixed it up as opposition only had one team but it wasn’t long till the passes and scores were flowing from all areas!
Adam/Alex/Alan commanded midfield with great link ups from Eabha, Fionn, Luke and Sophie. Great to see Ella, Nathan & Charlie on score sheet again with defence held tight by Tadhg, Caoimhe and Martha. Good use of both feet displayed by Adam today (setting the bar high for others). All these kids are a joy to coach! (Even when fighting with coaches over their fav positions) – Their desire & commitment should be bottled!!
For those U8’s who didn’t travel there was a “Friendly” arranged at Scoil with Teams comprising of a Mix of U8&9 Boys versus U10 Girls. Jp stepped up to the mark to referee the game and can honestly say we were treated to the most “Competitive” Friendly in a long time! 40 mins of pure intensity/skill/determination from both sides – No quarter asked for or given! Girls led at half time only to be pulled right back, with time edging away the boys took the lead but U10 girls stepped it up and levelled matters. Would genuinely be unfair to single anyone out as all kids played their part. Despite the level of feedback received from mentors & kids alike the Ref held firm and match finished out a satisfying legitimate draw (Thank God!) UP SCOIL!
Under 9s
The Under 9 mentors were delighted with their team performance on Saturday in their game away to Trinity Gaels. They put all their recent training to great use and were well on top in this game. Everyone worked hard, listened to the Mentors and showed their skill. Well done from Ross and Wayne.
Under 11s
The under 11s hosted visiting teams from three other Clubs in a football Blitz last Saturday morning. Great compliments from the visiting teams for our excellent facilities and the blitz organization. Well done to Cathal, Padraig and their team on all the effort to have everything run smoothly on the day.
Under 12 girls’ football 19-4-2015
There was a huge turnout of girls on Sunday for our game against Trinity Gaels. Only one girl was missing but we forgave Sadhbh Ní Philibin because she was at the Feis and came home the proud winner of four gold medals. Well done Sadhbh. Paul had his work cut out for him trying to ensure that all twenty girls got a run especially as Trinity only had twelve players. We didn’t win this game but there was a marked improvement on the girls’ performance, especially in the second half. They were doing what Paul had been showing them at training and it made for an exciting game with a goal slotted through a hole in the net by Caoimhe and some excellent scores from Siobhan and Holly. There were too many girls to mention individually but I am sure everyone will agree that the highlight of the match was our Eimear getting tough and not taking any nonsense from the opposition much to the delight of those cheering Scoil on… The girls gave it their all and the improvement continued at training last night when the player of the week was Sara. We hope Holly, Isabelle, Kellyann and Caoimhe show up the opposition on Saturday when they play with the under 14’s in Feile. Good luck to the Scoil girls.
Under 16 Hurling Scoil / Fontenoy 1-10 Lucan Sarsfields A 1-16
While the result was disappointing it was also heartening to see a very competitive game played at such a high standard as the Under 16s find their feet in the Division 1 hurling league. This is a very committed group of players who are working hard to compete strongly at the highest standard. While perhaps giving the opposition a little too much respect in the 1st half it was a different story in the 2nd half when every player competed for each ball and the striking improved considerably. Some excellent scores from Robert and Daragh with a Man of the Match performance from Eoghan McKay. Next up is the 16A football championship quarter final on Saturday next.
Feile 2015!
Great response to the fundraising efforts by the Girls Féile team on Saturday morning as many members and visitors enjoyed their Sausages sizzled on the BBQ. Well done to Claire, Tony and their team of ‘Tossers’ who were on duty on Saturday. Best wishes to the Girls who have now been kitted out in their new gear for the Féile and are only three sleeps away from the big day.
Coaching Courses
Great reaction to the ‘Coaching the Coaches’ course with Paudie Butler at the Hurling Wall in the Club on Friday evening. As well as a great number of Mentors / Coaches in attendance, Joanne would like to especially mention the Under 16 hurlers who were the volunteers for the event. Everyone who attended has picked up some new insights on the game and they also enjoyed the great enthusiasm of Paudie Butler on the night.
Club Lotto
The new Club Lotto fundraiser is now being launched and the first draw will take place in mid May with a guaranteed jackpot of €500. Entry is €2 and lotto envelopes are available in the Clubhouse. Every little helps!
Dublin
Very disappointing for the Dublin hurlers to lose out in a game that they had looked very capable of winning. Next up it’s the Leinster Championship.
All eyes on Croke Park on Sunday for the Division 1 league final v Cork. Up the Dubs!
Temple Street – Great Irish Bake
Well done to Club Nursery parents Michelle and Jonathan who organised the Great Irish Bake for Temple Street cake sale on Saturday morning in the Clubhouse. They made all the cakes on display with the Chocolate Brownies a big favorite (based on feedback of course!). Go raibh maith agat to everyone who supported the event which raised over €200 for a great cause.
Also to mention that if you support a charity and would like to organize an event, the Clubhouse is available to Members and families as we show our support for the broader community.
Summer work
We have lots of young members who are in school / college and willing / available to work during the summer months. If you have any opportunity to provide temporary / part / full time employment to our club members please contact the undersigned or any member of the executive.
Best wishes to all Members and families celebrating An Chéad Chomaoineach / First Communion this Saturday – fingers crossed for some fine weather on this very special occasion!
