A great week for the Club as the adult hurlers gain promotion to the Intermediate Championship!

Adult games

It was a great night for the Club on Saturday, with a win the Junior A Hurling Championship semi final v Naomh Fionnbarra.  The win not only secured a place in the final, it also ensures Intermediate hurling championship action in 2016 and a place in the Leinster competition.  Well done to Captain Andy Bunyan and all the players as well as the management team of Matt Cushen, Martin Hewitt and Dave Walley.  There was fantastic support in the Club on Saturday evening for the team and it certainly made the difference in the closing stages.  Here’s an extract from the write up in Tuesday’s Herald:

Scoil Uí Chonaill produced a dominant final quarter to account for a battling Naomh Fionnbarra by 0-14 to 0-11 in their evenly-contested Dublin Junior A Championship semi final on the Clontarf Road last Saturday teatime.  The visitors enjoyed a two point lead with twelve minutes remaining but Scoil managed to seize the initiative in the closing stages to complete an impressive success.  ‘We didn’t play particularly well and certainly didn’t perform to our best ability’, was the assessment of Scoil Uí Chonaill manager Matt Cushen.  “However, Naomh Fionnbarra deserve a lot of credit in how they played and we’re just delighted to be in the final now and move up to the Intermediate Championship for next year.  It was a really hard, clean game and both teams gave everything to get over the line and thankfully we dug deep and managed to finish well to secure the win.  We struggled a fair bit at this level last year but have improved this year and we’re really looking forward to taking our chances against what is a fine Cuala team” he added.  Central to Scoil’s win was the influence of corner back Kevin Purcell while Alan Cronin delivered a tireless shift in the home engine room.  Others to figure prominently for the hosts were wing forwards Alistair Cassidy and Joe Ryan with the latter landing four vital points from play to complement five frees by Barry Cushen.  Neil O’Flynn and Ruairí Coady shared four points as well against a Fionnbarra team that will rue the concession of avoidable frees in the final ten minutes.  Well done all

Minor Girls Scoil5 – 8     Skerries Harps6 – 1

The Scoil minor girls made an encouraging start to their championship campaign with a hard earned victory over Skerries Harps on a damp Monday evening last in Clontarf

After conceding two early goals the Scoil girls had to fight hard for the remainder of the first half and did well to get to the break just a point in arrears. Scoil found the net early on the resumption of play and were never behind in a hectic second period where some great scores were exchanged by both sides despite the poor conditions.

While this was a solid team performance the outstanding player on the night was Molly Power, accounting for many of the Scoil scores. The girls travel to Lucan Sarsfields on Monday next for the second round.

Keep an eye on Facebook / Twitter for updates on fixtures.

Under 8s

(JP) Well great start this morning for Scoil UiChonaill “Tough As Teak” U8 Hurlers away to Naomh Mearnog GAA with 4 wins and a narrow one point loss. Both teams gave it full tilt which was great to see.   Some great individual scores from Team “Liam/Jp” by Adam / Alex / Tadhg / Nathan. The pick of the bunch coming from Side line puck from Adam, for first point of the day which settled first match back nerves!!. Sophie, Charlie & Eabha mixed it up both in defence and Upfront with Wee Conal in goal contributing with some excellent puc outs.

Update from Team Ronan/Dave; Luke inspired Team with inspirational words that had a real impact as we played some very good hurling. Fionn and Alan worked tirelessly throughout while Liam, Ella, Alex, Caoimhe and Diarmuid gave it everything. Impressed with some excellent hooking which is showing the summer skills sessions paid off

Under 16 Hurling Division 1 Lucan Sarsfields 5-16  Scoil/Fontenoy 1-10

A tough game in Adamstown for the Under 16s last as they played one of the top hurling teams in Dublin last night. The standard of hurling was high and both teams kept going to the final whistle.  Well done to Scoil’s Daragh Levins who scored 1-09 in the game.  It’s Championship on Saturday with a Quarter Final v Castleknock A in Ringsend Park at the earlier time of 1pm.  Support welcome!
