Annual General Meeting – 24 November 2016
The 2016 Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place in the clubhouse last Thursday evening. There was a very good turnout with an excellent and in-depth review of the activity which took place during the last 12 months. Particular highlights for 2016 included:
– The enormous success from both a social and fundraising perspective of Strictly Scoil Dancing – we raised €75,000!
– Adult teams competing at a very high standard with our first team in Football in Division 2 and very close to promotion playoffs while our first hurling team is now in Division 3 and playing at Intermediate Championship level
– The vital importance of second and third teams both as development squads for those with potential and to ensure that everyone gets a game
– The investment in club facilities including the Clubhouse (complete), Dressing Rooms & Gym for female & male players (in progress) and Hurling Wall (planned)
– the co-ordination and ‘upskilling’ of juvenile/nursery coaches as well as the growth in our well organised and structured Nursery
– the quality of our Communication channels with an excellent website and social media for engagement purposes.
At the meeting, a motion to join the Camogie Association and enter juvenile teams for the first time in our history was passed. The election of officers was also completed and we welcome the new Executive members and say thank you to those who have served the Club.
The plans for 2017 are the responsibility of the incoming Executive but they will include a focus on Recruitment of new players, a comprehensive Communications programme, social activity and fundraising through sponsorship and other events. Scoil Abú!
Do you think about the future of Scoil Uí Chonaill? Be heard. Have your say in the upcoming Scoil Census…
Annual St Vincent de Paul Fundraiser
A fantastic response from Club members to our annual St Vincent de Paul fundraiser in the Club on Saturday. A lovely dry morning also helped and some of our visitors were very surprised to see the BBQ being setup (they enjoyed the sausages later!) With Conor and TJ on the BBQ, the sizzling sausages topped with onions were a great hit with everyone. Thanks to Kavanagh’s, The Temple for organising them.
In the Clubhouse we enjoyed tea, coffee, mince pies & treats thanks to Kathy, Marion, Niamh & Ramona. The raffle winners were Sandra Curtin, Conor Farrelly and Eoin Kelly. We raised over €700 on Saturday and this money will be presented to the St Vincent de Paul conference in the coming days.
Milé buiochas to everyone who supported the event, helping the Club to play our part in the wider community. Scoil Abú!
Adults
Our Under 21s have a football championship game on Saturday in Drumnigh (Trinity Gaels) at 2pm. Yes we’re playing GAA in December! All support would be very welcome. GRMA
Juveniles
Training is continuing for a few more weeks so our youngest members keep active and stay moving!
Nursery
Our Nursery team are finishing up next Saturday for the Christmas break. There’s a great buzz around in the Nursery every Saturday and special mention for all the coaches and parents,as well as the Under 16 girls, who make the sessions so enjoyable for all our youngest members.
Charity Skip
One of our Under 15 players, Donal McKay is involved in an interesting fund raiser taking place on Saturday next in Castle Avenue. You can find more information on how you can get rid of household rubbish and help a good cause here.
Gaelic for Mothers & Others (GFMO)
The Ladies continue with their Fun, Fitness & Craic in the Club every Wednesdays between 7pm-8pm. Lots of activity and fun in these sessions and you can contact Mairead at 086 2675392 for more information.
‘Mentors & Helpers’ night (Christmas Jumpers welcome!)
Next Sat 3 December we hold our annual ‘Mentors & Helpers night in the Clubhouse. This is a volunteer appreciate event and everyone who has helped out in the Club from organising events, managing/training teams, cleaning the Clubhouse, working in the Bar etc. etc. etc. is welcome! There will be finger food and specially priced drinks on the night.
Santa Claus is coming to Scoil!!!
Confirmation that our very special Santa will be in the Clubhouse on Saturday 10 December. Confirmation of arrival / departure times will be available shortly and more details will be circulated soon. All members and friends are welcome to attend on what is always a great evening.
Bag Packing – Friday 23 December
Delighted to let you know that after our wonderful ‘bag packing’ performance in 2015 we have been allocated the most important slot in the shopping calendar by Nolans for 2016. We are dividing the day into six two hour slots so we will have six separate teams on the tills with six people needed at a time.
We would be delighted to have some volunteers either individuals or teams to step up for a slot during the 8am-8pm day. We will be looking to teams to take on some of the slots as they did so well last year. (Aged 12 years and over).
This is also a great opportunity to promote the Club in the local area and encourage people to learn more about the Scoil story. You can contact TJ Farrelly at 086 8326644 with your availability or that of your team.
End of Season Party – Saturday 28 January 2017
The Club’s End of Season Party will take place on the last Saturday in January. Clontarf Castle is the venue on Saturday 28 January 2017. Ticket prices are again being held at €30 and like last year we are holding the party in the Great Hall. It promises to be a great night as we celebrate all our achievements of 2016 and as we get ready to commence the 2017 season.
Tickets can now be booked by contacting Declan Hoban (087-6539943), Joan Cushen (087-2222650), Ronan Murphy (087-9295105) or Tiarnan Crowe (087-6492316).
