Exciting is building! The Clubhouse ‘makeover’ is in full flow and the big reveal takes place on Saturday evening.

Lots of work is underway to make improvements to the Clubhouse and the revamp continues with painters / decorators on the premises this week.  Just to remind everyone that the Clubhouse will be closed until Saturday 23rd @ 8 30pm

Everyone is welcome to drop in to the BIG PARTY Night to celebrate the relaunch of the newly revamped Bar & Clubhouse with music and craic.  All current and former members are invited along with family and friends. Please extend this invite to those who may not receive the weekly update too.

Strictly Come Dancing!!!

We’re launching our big fun social event this Saturday 23 April to coincide with the Clubhouse re-opening. Fantastic work is being done to get ready for the launch of this amazing event.  Talking to anyone who has taken part in ‘Strictly’ for their Club, School or Charity you will get a great sense of the excitement and enjoyment as well as the hard work involved learning all the moves.  We’re all waiting to see who the dancers will be with some well know names in the Club and beyond rumored to be part of the line up!

For more information on any aspect of the event on Saturday 23 April or the main event on 17 June please contact Alan Cronin  085-7182745  alan.cronin@accenture.com  Declan O’Sullivan on 086-3820125.  Weekly planning meetings are continuing in the Club on Thursday at 8.45pm  You will also be able to keep up with the ‘Strictly’ news on social media and on our websitewww.scoilgaa.com.  Let the dancing begin!!!

Adult games

A great weekend of league results for all our adult football teams starting with the win v Parnells on Saturday evening for the Seniors.  On Sunday, the 2nd team continued their excellent start to the league following promotion last win with a fourth win from four games.  On Sunday afternoon the 3rd team were awarded a walkover in their game as the opposition conceded.

This was added to by the win for our Ladies team in their Cup game tonight in Clontarf.  A high scoring team performance ensured a well deserved win.

The minor girls also won their game this week which was played on Monday evening in Clontarf.  Final score Scoil 10-13 Ballyboden B 2-3.  Well done girls!

We’re back to hurling action next weekend for the men and we welcome St Peregrines to Clontarf on Saturday at 6pm for the first game in the intermediate hurling championship.  The second team play Raheny, also in Clontarf, in their opening game in the junior championship on Sunday at 11am.   Support for these games would be greatly appreciated.

Juveniles
A packed Club on Saturday morning as the Under 8, 9, 10, and 12 teams all played football games in Clontarf with some great skill and endeavour on display.  As always, juvenile training continues every Tuesday and Wednesday in the Club from 7-8pm.  A big thank you to the adult players who have volunteered to join the coaching roster and play their part in developing our younger members.  Tonight adult hurlers Daragh Ryan and Adam Wilson were on hand to show their skills and work with the players and mentors.

Nursery

Our Club Nursery was also busy with plenty of games and drills to work through for the youngest players.  The Nursery takes place in the Club every Saturday from 10am and new members are always welcome.

Under 9s

Scoil Ui Chonaill U9 Footballers entertained Naomh Mearnóg on Saturday morning. Two great matches with Team Liam Ryan coming out on top despite some brilliant football by the opposition.  Despite playing like it was their first ever football match in the first half, Team Jp’s kids picked themselves up and did exceptionally well, winning the second half but narrowly lost out by a point at full time, which was harsh on the kids as they peppered the goal but the cross bars/uprights proved our undoing. Happy Birthday to Alex Cahill/Culligan & Eabha Mulligan – Enjoy!  Our thoughts, prayers & condolences are with young Sadhbh (U9) & Family who’s grandad (Múinteoir Bríd’s dad- Scoil Neasáin) sadly passed away this week. R.I.P.   (JP C.)

Under 13 Girls Scoil 7-5 Naomh Barróg 3-4

Scoil Ui Chonaill hosted Naomh Barrog on a Saturday afternoon in Clontarf and treated all present to a brilliant performance, coming out deserved winners on a very respectable 7-5 to 3-4.

Jody was super in goal and Sadhbh was brilliant in defence. Nobody would believe Isabelle had just played another game because she scored so well.  Siobhan moved effortlessly; Siofra Delaney made some instinctive passes. Gabrielle showed much improved play, while Meibhin was tenacious in attack.  Reailtin excelled at blocking, and Sara’s speed was exemplary.

Meadhbh showed great anticipation while Aine made wonderful clearances.

Holly was outstanding, covering immense ground.  Sadhbh Nic Philbin has gained immense confidence in tackling while Roisin was like a ‘jack in the box’ surprising opponents. Eve was rock solid as always and Lia is a brave asset to the team.  Caoimhe showed her speed and scoring skill.  (Thanks to Niamh Crowe for the very descriptive match report)

Dublin tickets

Don’t forget if you’re heading to the finals in Croke Park on Sunday you can buy tickets in advance online or in Supervalu / Centra stores.  The GAA have advised they are expect 70,000 people in Croke Park on Sunday for the finals and the special Laochra 1916 commemoration event.
Up the Dubs!

LAOCHRA – The GAA Commemorates 1916 – Croke Park, Sunday 24 April

See Details of the Laochra celebration on Sunday – volunteers are still welcome and this might suit someone who would like to take part in the 1916 commemorations.  Please contact the undersigned asap.

The G.A.A. wish to commemorate 1916, the Proclamation, the story of Gaelic Games and their role in the centenary since.  (One of the themes of our show will be the idea that the G.A.A. is perhaps the closest embodiment of the vision and spirit of the Proclamation that has been achieved in the past centenary – it is Gaelic, independent, 32-county, egalitarian, community focused and diverse.)

We aim to create a show of emotion and spectacle through large-scale innovative theatre, dance, song, image and pageant that rouses and moves audience in the stadium and on the television. The show will be directed by Ruan Magan, who directed the very successful documentary series “1916” shown recently on RTE One.  There will be newly commissioned music composed by Patrick Cassidy, and some of Ireland’s leading choreographers and designers are working on the show.

One important element of the event is a Grand Citizens Parade, which will take place in the final scene.  We hope to include, in as much as possible, the full diversity of Irish society.  To do this, we are seeking representatives from all sectors of Irish life.  We naturally feel that it is important that as many different organizations and individuals are represented in the Parade.  Currently we feel that we would require up to 30 members to take part in the parade, in uniform, traditional clothing or clothing with your logo if you have one.  If you could please supply a banner (to be held by no more than two people) or a flag (3 x 5ft) that would represents your organization.

Dress rehearsal will take place on Sunday morning 24th April at 8.30am.

You will receive a wristband on entry and this will allow you to watch both games without having to buy a ticket.  Please keep in mind that this will be a very long day.  Thanks.
