Information & discussion morning with the Executive

This Saturday (25th) @10.30am there will be an open meeting with the executive in the Clubhouse in order to give ALL MEMBERS an opportunity to be briefed on all the happenings of the Club, but more importantly an opportunity for you to have your say, make suggestions and dictate how we progress.

There are lots of exciting developments afoot, not to mention the pastries that will accompany the meeting!

Scoil to host back-to-back Féiles

Scoil is stepping up to host both the U14 Girls and U13 Boys Féiles on April 1st and 8th, respectively. In order for us to take this opportunity to show off our fantastic grounds, Clubhouse and new facilities we ask that anyone with a few hours to spare on either day lend a hand in some capacity.

Even if you are unavailable on the days, please see how you can help by getting in touch

Easter Camp 2017

From 18-21st April (9.30am-1.30pm) we will be running the annual Easter Camp for juveniles. At just €35 this is really incredible value. Please contact Club GPO Thomas on 085 113 7728 to book a place.

Meet Mélissa Courageot

How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
I started to play for the season 2016.

Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
Not that I’am aware of, but it may be the “French girl” when I’m not here. I have always been called Mel, as far as I remember.

Where do you hail from? i.e. county, country, suburb etc.
I was born in the suburb of Paris and I had always lived there before moving to Dublin 4 years ago.

How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
I was looking for a team activity which also involved Irish culture, GAA couldn’t be better! I emailed Jonny and Gus who warmly invited me for a try and since then I’m playing!

What would you say you are most known for within Scoil?
For being French and the new one! Though, I’m finally not the newest this year!

What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
I scored during my first match and I was very proud of it. Regarding the skills, to improve my solo is a great achievement for me!

What is your profession / field of study / passion?
I studied in the education field but I’m now working as Account Manager in PayPal.

What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
I spend lot of time in the gym as I love it. I also like to visit the countryside and travelling in general. I’m also always ready to meet my friends around a drink in a pub.

If you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
I would love Scoil to have a pitch where you can run without mud on your shoes ! It would be the pitch where everyone around Dublin wants to play!

If you close your eyes and envisage Scoil in 10 years, what do you see?
I see loads of members still playing for the club along with their kids.

Finally, if you had to describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why?
I’d love to be a Lion, I love the way they live their life free and wild at the same time!

Member Feedback
As we continue to add to and refine the Scoil website, there have been some updates made to the About Us section. Whilst the interesting story regarding the origin of our Club colours has been verified by veteran members, the ensuing paragraphs around what they represent today is simply creative writing and should be given the opportunity to be inspected by all members. Please get in contact if you have any feedback.

Please also note the honour roll at the bottom will need input from 2000-present so volunteers please also get in touch.

U13 Cake Sale – Thanks!

AFL2
Scoil 1-09 to 0-10 Raheny

The Senior Footballers got their campaign off to a successful start with a hard fought   two point victory over Raheny in their Division 2 opener on Paddy’s morning.

Playing into the strong wind in the first half,Scoil defended very well , tackling fearlessly, and took their points on the break. The critical score was the goal from Tiarnan Crowe, shortly before half time, at which stage Scoil led by 1-05 to 0-06.

Roared on by a raucous Richie Egan, amongst a large Scoil crowd, Conor Coady dominatedat midfield before coming off injured with seven minutes left.

Both sides scored four points each in the second half, leaving the score at 1-09 to 0-10, as time was nearly up.Raheny were awarded a very soft penalty but Andy Bunyan pulled off a spectacular save to preserve our advantage.

A great start- thanks to all our supporters.

Under 14 Girls
Craobh Chiarain 3-04 to 8-11 Scoil

Second bite of the cherry.
It was a very sweet victory for the under 14 girls who took on Craobh Chiarain for the second time on Sunday. We were winning at half time in the first game but the referee called a halt owing to the dreadful rain. In the first game the opposition could only field 13 but this time, being aware of the competition they faced from Scoil, they came with a full squad and subs. It didn’t do them any good because from the first minute we were on the attack and despite their best efforts they could not compete with us. Our  girls played a stormer much to the delight of their supporters. There is no doubt but the extra games they have played when playing up with the under fifteens has benefitted them. When you think that there were a total of eleven goals in the game you will realise that everyone was playing their hearts out on both teams. Scoil though gave an exhibition of team work and skill that kept the supporters enthralled. It would be unfair to pick out any player because they all played their part and some clever switches by Paul paid dividends.
The final score was Scoil 8.11 to Craobh Chiarain’s 3.4. Larry had a great big smile on his face as he recorded the score. It nearly made up to him for the draw foisted on his beloved Kerry by the Dubs!

Scoil will be host for the Girls Feile Group that we are competing in on the 1st April (Scoil Ui Chonaill, Foxcab Cabinteely, St Oliver Plunketts and St Vincents). Matches from 10:00 to 15:00 approx.

Under 13 Boys
Scoil 2-04 to 5-0 Cuala

The u13 boys had their first hurling outing of the year at home against Cuala. It was a very tight game with Scoil leading for most of the first half. In the second half Scoil had some great chances to finish the game off but Lady Luck wasn’t on their side with Scoil hitting the cross bar twice and Cuala finished the game with two late goals to take the win. Well done to Rian Sean Jack Thomas and Brendan who had some excellent scores. Great to see so much improvement from last year.

Lightening’s Hurlers strike late to draw – Scoil Ui Chonaill U12 “Lightening’s” 3-0Erin Go Brath 3-0

On a horrible day and a mucky pitch the lightenings struck late to salvage a draw with the last puck of the game. While the opposition may have the better skills they could not match the heart and effort shown by the Scoil lads across the team and subs. The extra hurling training planned for the lads will certainly improve on their skills and when they combine this with their never say die attitude the future certainly looks bright. Also a big thank you to Liam Ryan from the U10’s who stepped in to help ref the match, it was much appreciated, as was his time keeping when the equaliser went in.

Lightening’s demolish O’Tooles – Scoil Ui Chonaill U12 “Lightening’s” 4-10 O’Tooles 1-2

You are always told that unless you prepare properly, you must prepare to fail. Well the Lightening’s have a new approach to this, arrive late because the pitch was moved without you knowing it, have a number of players missing due to the long weekend, borrow an U 11 and a Thunder (Thanks Paddy) to make the 13 required, do no warm-up, throw your team on without any real time for giving them an actual position on the pitch and let them off. Needless to say the expected then happened and within five minutes we were 1-1 to no score down and it wasn’t looking good.  What transpired next left the significant travelling support and mentors totally gobsmacked, as the lightening’s put on a display of football that was truly astonishing in its use of the ball, decision making and score taking. Gone was the big hoof out of the back line instead Kensey in goal and Joseph and Eoin Mc in the full back line drove out through the O’Tooles forwards with the head up and the clearance always to a Scoil jersey. The half back line of Paddy and in particular Senan hovered up all the 50-50 balls and delivered in quick ball to the forwards, the mid field of Lee and Dylan covered every blade of grass and again their passing to the forwards was always into space. The forward play was where this was won and while they were giving up a significant height advantage to the bigger O’Tooles players the speed of Realtin, Roan, Lennox, Oran and Johan was the difference along with their finishing. So a big well done to all and a really great game for the travelling support to watch, as for the mentors they are currently reflecting on whether it was Lourdes water they had put in the water bottles before the game.

Under 11 Boys Football

Scoil 10-4 v Cuala 2-3

Another fantastic win from our U11s making it 3 big wins on the bounce!

Scoil dominated from back to front with Rory having a great performance in goal while being well protected by our new defensive stalwart Mourad, who simply wouldn’t let anyone past without a fight! Our defensive line also including Karl, Brendan, Eoin, Patrick & Tiernan kept a great shape throughout defending very well and distributing balls excellently to our midfield. Great work from all in midfield with Kaylum getting 3 goals and Jack scoring 2 & Dominic scoring 1. Sean & Conall fought hard for every ball & were extremely brave throughout the game making some great passes to our forward line including Dyson, Blaine, Josh, Jan, Kai & Cillian who scored an acrobatic goal in the 2nd half!

All players gave it their all & should be very proud of the team performance – all were rewarded with some well-deserved cake after the game which I promised them if they won!

Hats off to Cuala for making the trip after their big win yesterday…We unfortunately dampened their joy the morning after!

Under 10 Boys Football

Scoil Ui Chonaill U10 Footballers were away to St Brigids GAA with both Scoil Teams winning in style!

Team Jp Courtney: Slow start by Scoil kids as they adjusted their shooting range to the Nursery style goals. After conceding x 2 points in quick succession, they took off and never looked back!! Great to see the effort put in with Aurelien, Conal & Addi stealing the show up front!  Our newest player  (Calum) made his debut and should prove another successful acquisition from O’Connells!  Conor, Calvin & Jack ran themselves into the ground today which kept the pressure off Alex Culligan, Finn & Ronan in defence/goal. All in all a very high scoring game (for Scoil!) & strong team display! Highlight of game was the cheeky back heel goal by Aurelien, as two Brigids players closed in on him.

Team Liam Ryan:Scoil produced another morning of high tempo stunning football this morning. From the whistle they blitzed the opposition goals with some great scores from our full forward line of Charlie, Luke and Diarmuid. The subbuteo style goals meant that the players had to work the ball in close to the goal before fisting the ball over the bar. Conaill and Neil were having great fun peppering the cars behind goal ( who parks their car behind goals!!!). Great defensive duties from Alex and Tadgh allowed the team to attack Brigids goal at will with Fionn attacking down the line like Jack McCaffrey!! Highlight of the morning was the passing between the team, in particular between Adam and Alan in the second half that set up some brilliant scores. It’s hard to believe that they are only Under 10.
