Summer of #ScoilSkillz
Pure class #ScoilSkillz from u10 footballer
Fionn Daly! Shows how you can use the
non-GAA environment to test yourself!
It’s so important that all our players (young & old!) take the time between training sessions to get their own skills sessions in. So this year, we’re making it the Summer of #ScoilSkillz!
To celebrate we want our members to upload videos (of whatever length you like) of themselves or other players practicing their skills. They can be the most basic of skills or the most outlandish trick shots – as long as there is a hurl, football or sliotar involved!
Upload the videos to Facebook or Instagram and tag the Scoil page with the hashtag #ScoilSkillz to be in with a chance to be our monthly winner! Details of monthly prizes to follow…
Unbelievable #ScoilSkillz here from Josh & Charlie Bissett! …REALLY unbelievable…as in defying logic!
To get the ball (or sliotar!) rolling, the first 10 videos uploaded will win 2 free passes to the ‘Heffo’s Army and The Rise of Dublin GAA‘ exhibit in the The Little Museum of Dublin!

Meet Nicola Osborne (Cronin)
How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
20 years give or take.
Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
Most people call me Nic
Where do you hail from?
Dublin, currently live in D2 working my way to D4 😉
How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
Played a bit as a teenager & have been a proud supporter of my brother ever since, now I’m back in the club as a mammy supporter! There was no question that my boys would play anywhere else!
Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
See above question
What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
Being Alan Cronin’s sister!
What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
See above question again!! In the future hopefully it will be being ‘The Osborne Brothers’ mammy
What is your profession / field of study / passion?
I have an honours degree in Accounting & HR management & currently work in an accounts office, besides my family I’m still trying to work out what my passion is…
What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
Going to the gym, spending time with my family & friends, relaxing with a good book & a nice glass of wine
If you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
An indoor training hall for the winter months & an Astro pitch for the kids to hone their hurling skills
What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’?
It’s not really a quirk but my favourite thing about Scoil is what a family orientated club it is, I think that’s the most important thing that members can pass down & instill in future generations/members
If you close your eyes and envisage Scoil in 10 years, what do you see?
I see a club whose reputation precedes them, the club that everyone else says “they’re the ones we have to beat”
Finally, if you had to describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why?
I don’t know, but if I could be any animal it would be a bird so I could travel the world.
Want to feature here / know someone who should? Complete the questionnaire and send it in!

Intermediate Football ‘B’ C’ship
Ballyboden 2-17 Scoil 2-20
The Footballers gave the travelling crowd some entertainment at least. After a lackluster start, and with the help of a late goal, the game saw extra time at which point our Lads seemed to awake from their slumber.

Ladies Football
Scoil 7-17 Clontarf 2-6
Another fine win for the ladies in the league against neighbours Clontarf. The team made their usual flying start scoring 3-6 before Clontarf had registered a score. The halfback line of Sarah O’Reilly, Molly Power and Kathy Delaney were totally on top and ensured plentiful supply to the forwards.
Once again the flying Hannah Leahy took full advantage as she took a personal tally of 3-3 heading into the halftime break. As expected Clontarf started the second half strong as they attempted to mount a comeback, but Scoil were always in control. A late flurry of fantastic scores saw substitutes Alannah Kane, get 2-1 and making her adult debut Sophie Gibney slot an assured 1-1, putting the game beyond doubt.
There was even time for internet sensation Emma Condon to hit a trademark outside of the right boot shot from a near impossible angle before the final whistle blew. It was great to see so much support on the line for this derby and the players really appreciated it, and fed off the atmosphere.
Next up is our first Championship game away to Kilmacud Crokes on Wednesday 24th May at 7.30pm.

Minor Boys
Scoil (Isles of the Sea) 3-14 Castleknock 0-13
Scoil minors played their last fixture before the 6 week Leaving Cert. break, last Sunday in a sunny Ringsend Park.
The teams traded points for the first 15 minutes with Daragh Levins converting the many frees provided to us. Having received a hard knock on the knee in the first few minutes, our full back Colm O’Briain had to be taken off. It subsequently transpired he has a fractured patella and is now out for 6 weeks. We wish him a speedy recovery.
After the tense opening 15 minutes, Scoil eventually settled down. A point from play from Robert Kennedy and a goal from Seamus McCann followed by a converted free from Daragh Levins and a point from play from the formidable Ted Walsh, left the scoreline 1-10 to 0-5 to Scoil at half time.
Scoil dominated the second half but Castleknock came back in the last few minutes scoring a number of points. A well taken goal from Scott Colllopy with a couple of minutes to go left the final score 3-14 to Scoil, 0-13 to Castleknock.
Great to see Dean Fitzpatrick back in goals after injury and he made his mark with a tremendous point blank save in the first half. Also great to see Eoin Barron and Des Duggan out supporting the team and we’re looking forward to them getting back to action.
Team: Dean Fitzpatrick, Conor Ennis, Colm O’Briain, Conor Farrelly, Connor Barnes, Cian O’Regan, Karl Morgan, Daragh Levins (0-8, 7f), Eoghan McKay (0-1), Seamus McCann (2-0), Robert Kennedy (0-3), David Kennedy, Tomás O’Connell, Conor Rimmer, Patrick Duffy.
Subs: Ted Walsh (0-1) for Colm O’Briain, Sam Callan for Tomás O’Connell, David McGauran (0-1) for Patrick Duffy, Scott Collopy (1-0) for Conor Rimmer, Niall Madill for Seamus McCann, Ruairi Corrigan for Conor Ennis.
(Thanks to Matt Cushen for the last minute lending of a set of jerseys to avoid the clash of colours).
This leaves the team top of the football league and joint top of the hurling league heading into the Leaving Cert. break.
No fixtures for the next 6 weeks while some of lads take their Leaving Cert. exams – we wish them all the very best of luck.
Next Match: Sunday 25th June, Football away to Ballyboden.

U13 Boys Football
There was no league match again this week for the U13 boys however they did partake in a 7-a-side blitz in Alfie Byrne Park in Clontarf on Sunday morning. They did themselves proud and although not getting the highest points they were one of the best performing teams in the blitz league. Well done to those that participated.

U12 Boys
Thunder
The Scoil under 12’s team Thunders hurling team beat Oliver Plunkers 6-4 to 4-4 in Clontarf last Friday evening.
The first half was very even with each team scoring a number of impressive goals. Jack and Brendan shone for Scoil in the first half with some tireless runs and good passing while Patrick, Fionn and Luke kept the scoreboard ticking over.
The second half was a much tighter affair and the Scoil backs of Sean, Rory and Eanna had to be on guard to stop the increasing threat from the Plunketts forwards. A feature of the second half was the spectacular goals from Cathal and Luke as well as fine individual performances from Eoghan, Flann, Marcus and Cillian.
Everyone put in a great shift and after two wins on the trot the team is starting to build some impressive momentum.
Everyone was reminded after the mach about the importance of continuing to attend training and having the hurl in the hand as often as possible.
Well done to everyone involved.
Lightening
Lightenings lose close encounter with Barrog
On a beautiful Saturday morning in St Anne’s the U12 lightenings put in a wonderful performance but two late barrog goals put the lads to the sword after leading at half time, sterling performances by Kenzie, Roan, Senan and Lee were not enough to get the lads over the line but performances like this continue to show the ever improving performances of the team.

U11 Boys
U11s had 2 x Super Performances out @ Peregrines in our football blitz vs Peregrines & St Margarets!
Our 1st game vs Peregrines saw us win comfortably with all 11 players giving 110% and delivering a super, strong performance.
Our 2nd game was fiery affair St Margaret’s, seeing some great team work in the 2nd half to deliver a well deserved win(according to the ref!) although there was fierce debate on the sidelines post-game! We took the win as the ref’s word is final!
Seeing a great team spirit growing among these lads – with our additional players that joined his year making a huge difference! Good video of this attached!
Big thanks to Peregrines for hosting!

U10s
Combined Scoil U10’s Footballers v Whitehall Colmcilles with another convincing home win:
Due to mixture of communions/illness, the opposition could only field x12 kids this morning, so decision was made to play one game x12 aside (Combination of Jp Courtney & Liam Ryan teams).
Despite a slow start and getting used to bigger pitch, Scoil Kids found their groove and took game to opposition.
Some excellent scores from Adam, Addi, Alan, Alex, Aurelian, Conor & Diarmuid but more impressive was their movement and defensive work first half with Alex, Luke, Fahad, Alex Cahill, Jack and Calum putting in some shift with our Midfield Maestros Adam & Alan directing traffic/flow of ball.
Second half we changed things about with Finn Fionn, Liam, Ronan, Conal & Charlie entering the game. Great to see the intensity didn’t let up with the changes.
Most pleasing thing was the kids took on board our comments about their overuse of soccer skills and instead concentrated on GAA with passing / moving / marking / tracking back all on view.
Don’t want to single any kids out, as they were all on top form (especially our goal scorers like Conor with super fist goal) but Luke, Diarmuid & Aurelian were excellent today.
Plenty of banter between Scoil & Whitehall mentors also – some of them wondering what Jp would be like if Scoil were actually losing (and me so shy, quiet and retiring!!)
BIG SHOUT OUT TO Our U10’s who’ve uploaded their skills for show – expect more to follow!

U10 Girls
U10 Girls V’s St Margarets
On a lovely afternoon for football in north county Dublin the u10s carried on with their winning run. Despite been down a few key players and arriving with the bare minimum they put together a complete display of football that was a pleasure to see. The girls had worked tirelessly in the first half and build the foundations to allow us to experiment with different positions for the girls in the second half. We asked the girls to focus on the skills that they are learning in training with the give and go and working the ball into proper scoring positions. This was key to aiding some of our key defenders been able to register their first points for the team. The smiles on both daughters and dads made the coaching teams day as it shows what we are about and how the girls are developing for the future.

Under 9’s Girls Football
The under 9’s girls faced Garristown at Clontarf Rd on a beautiful Sunday morning. It was decided to play 12 v 12 on a larger pitch to ensure all players got as much playing time as possible. Indeed the larger pitch and near perfect conditions made for a wonderfully entertaining game of football. The girls played really well with strong performances all over the field. Special mention for Aibhilin who won an amount possession in midfield. Well done girls.
On another note very best wishes from the team and mentors to under 9’s player Aishat who is recovering from a broken finger. Get well soon.

Under 9’s Boys Football
The under 9’s boys teams were at home to Beann Eadair on Saturday.
Team Dave & Cormac competed well against strong opposition on a breezy morning in Clontarf. The boys started well creating a number of good opportunities. The lads peppered the posts in the first half but failed to convert as many of the chances as they would have liked. Playing into the breeze in the second half made it more challenging to work the ball forward but fair play to the lads they managed to get a couple of good scores. Thanks to Liam, Conal and Charlie for their help.
Team Sean were competitive throughout and in patches showed what they are capable of when playing as a team. Ruairi cut through the opposition when given the right ball and finished some excellent scores. Lee was ever dependable in goals. Temi completely nullified the opposition danger man when asked to do a man marking job, something management should have sorted out much earlier. Paddy, Caoimhe, Sean, Evan and Callum Williams all played their part. Callum Boyle reckoned his well taken last minute goal was a certain winner, and maybe it was!
Finally we would also like to wish all the best to Killians dad, David, who is recovering from serious leg injuries sustained in a car accident. Despite Davids incapacity, Killian has been at training sessions and matches so thanks to Nina and other parents who are helping to make sure Killian can get there. Best wishes to David from all the under 9 kids, mentors and parents.

U8 Football
The under 8s, shorn of a few First Holy Communicants, made their way to Mobhi road to take on Na Fianna on Saturdaymorning. Having made some changes to the line ups for the first time this season, the mentors were keen to see how the teams would fare.
The new Maroons put in very strong performances in all 3 matches, getting the upper hand in most of them. It could have been a perfect day for them if it weren’t for some soft frees given away. Yet again, Aoibhínn was excellent winning the ball both in defence and in midfield. The team also had some great contributions from Rory and Cian who stepped in from the nursery to help us out for the day.
The Amber team struggled to find their rhythm on the day. However, Jake worked very hard and did some terrific tackling to prevent shots from the opposition. On a couple of occasions, he perfectly executed the block down technique which we had practiced in training recently. Meanwhile, Conall chipped in with a couple of smartly taken points to keep us within touching distance of na Fianna.
Finally, for the Blues it was a day of ups and downs. They started very brightly with Sean and Aibhilín linking up, dancing around defenders like Astaire and Rogers. Aibhilín showed tremendous skills on the day and didn’t manage to convert the number of scores her play deserved. Meanwhile, at the back, Paddy showed grit and awareness in being first to countless balls that came his way. The day finished on a tougher note for this team and they just couldn’t come to grips with some very athletic players in the last of their 3 matches. But that shouldn’t overshadow their earlier efforts.
Next match Saturday 20th May, hurling away to St Brigids @ 10 a.m.
