Summer of #ScoilSkillz
It’s so important that all our players (young & old!) take the time between training sessions to get their own skills sessions in. So this year, we’re making it the Summer of #ScoilSkillz!
To celebrate we want our members to upload videos (of whatever length you like) of themselves or other players practicing their skills. They can be the most basic of skills or the most outlandish trick shots – as long as there is a hurl, football or sliotar involved!
Upload the videos to Facebook or Instagram and tag the Scoil page with the hashtag #ScoilSkillz to be in with a chance to be our monthly winner! Details of monthly prizes to follow…
The get the ball (or sliotar!) rolling, the first 10 videos uploaded will win 2 free passes to the ‘Heffo’s Army and The Rise of Dublin GAA‘ exhibit in the The Little Museum of Dublin!
Get you hurls, balls, and cameras out and get practicing…otherwise you might wind up like this guy:

Intermediate Hurling
Scoil 1-16 St Kevin’s 1-10
The Hurlers continued their run of fine form as they came out on top in a 6 point win over St Kevin’s in the IHC first round. Great to see Eoin O’Carroll back in action for the Hurlers after some years away

Ladies Football
Scoil 5-10 Kilmacud Crokes 9-8
A first defeat of the season away in the cup to Kilmacud for the adult ladies. The first half was evenly contested with the lead changing hands several times. Unfortunately just before half time, Scoil conceded two sloppy goals to see us trail by 6 points at the break.
Almost immediately after the restart Kilmacud scored a well worked goal to give them an unassailable lead. The team never gave up, but each second half score was matched or bettered by Kilmacud down the other end.
There was another fine performance from Hannah Leahy who scored 2-3 despite some close attention from the Kilmacud defence. Next up is another Cup match away to Raheny 3rd May 7.30pm.

Minor Boys
Scoil (Isles of the Sea) 3-11 St. Mary’s 1-14
Very competitive game – two good footballing sides took to the field last Sunday in Ringsend Park.
Scoil started very well but missed 2 or 3 chances. However, we quickly had 6 points on the board. St. Mary’s played a good brand of football into a very strong wind, kept possession and stayed in very close contact with us with some quality scores.
Two goals in the first half proved crucial. Emmet Bolton got on the end of a rebound and stuck the ball to the roof of the net. The second goal was a sequence of 3 or 4 great passes ending with a pass to Emmet Bolton in the corner who found the net again.
At half time the score was 2-5 to 1-8.
St. Mary’s went in at half time much the happier side believing they’d done enough by staying level into such a strong breeze. However, after a really good half time talk where we talked about intelligent football, keeping possession and maintaining our momentum in the tackle, we started to play a very good passing and possession game into the wind.
Subs of Ted Walsh, Ruairi Corrigan and Evan Caulfield strengthened our side and again in the second half, point for point exchanges kept the teams neck and neck. Some strong physical defense from Mary’s gave us the chance to take scores from frees which kept our scoreboard ticking over.
Conor Ennis in the middle of the field was very strong in the second half fielding some excellent balls and winning marks and was rewarded with 7 minutes to go with an excellent goal from some super running off the ball which proved the difference between the two teams.
Final score 3-11 to 1-14.
Scorers: Emmet Bolton 2-0; Robert Kennedy 0-6 (5f); Conor Ennis 1-1; Conor Rimmer, Rohan van der Akker, Darragh Corcoran & David Kennedy 0-1 each.

U14 Girls
St. Anne’s 4-11 Scoil 6-1
Under 14 girls down but not out. 28/4/2017
The under 14 girls travelled to Bohernabreena on Friday night hoping to get revenge for their
Feile beating. The mentors would like to express their thanks to the parents who made the long journey on a bank holiday Friday. Obviously everyone was not free at that particular time so our accompanying parents all took carloads of girls. It was noticeable from kick off that they were giving minute to minute phone reports to those who could not make it. St. Annes started off with a bang slotting two goals and a few points within minutes. Our girls rose to the challenge and by half time in a pulsating half the sides were even. The second half was a ding dong battle all the way. St. Annes scored then we scored and the parents were hopping up and down on the sideline encouraging our girls who were playing their hearts out and who were actually winning with about ten minutes to go. Unfortunately St. Annes made a comeback and finally beat us by four points. Nonetheless the parents present clapped our girls off the field because they played so well. Certainly they did us proud on the occasion. It was a marvellous game of football and they certainly put it up the league leaders. Final score St. Annes 4.11. Scoil 6.1.

U12 Boys
Scoil 2-4 Trinity Gaels 2-3
Last Friday evening Scoil under 12’s Team Thunders football team enjoyed a one point win over Trinity Gaels.
Trinity Gaels started the match with a physically mature and aggressive side and it took Scoil the full first half to come to terms with tackling and dispossessing much bigger opponents.
Richie Egan rallied the troops at half time and Scoil took the field in the second half a much more determined outfit. Scoil did not back down from the physical exchanges and every single player stood their ground and fought tooth and nail for the cause. Their efforts were not in vain and Scoil reeled in Trinity Gaels during the last five minutes and were very deserving winners.
It would be unfair to mention particular players, however it was worth noting that Patrick took to the field injured and carried on manfully to the bitter end.
A terrific TEAM win and TEAM performance, full of grit and resolve. Well done to all involved.

U10 Boys
Scoil U10’s were away to our local rivals Raheny with mixed results – Win/ Loss;
Team Liam Ryan:
We travelled down the road to St Annes Park this afternoon to play our local rivals Raheny in very windy conditions under the watchful eye of our club president Dick Murphy. Our kids were not happy at the start when the referee said that he wasn’t taking scores! Thankfully it didn’t take the competitive edge off their game. Scoil had the wind in the first half and settled well with some good scores for Alan, Alex C and Diarmuid. Great to see Diarmuid settle well into the forward line after playing at the back for the last couple of games! Scoil pulled off a brilliant team effort in the 2nd half and worked very well together against a very good Raheny Team.Fionn and Neil ‘sweeper system’ worked very well and stopped the Raheny attack on several occasions. Adam, Alan and Conaill (Twin) were immense today in the middle of the field and ran themselves into the ground. The kids at the end were obviously counting the scores as they were very happy at the end…A great all round team performance – Ronan Murphy was a happy man at the end!
Team Jp Courtney:
Our Team obviously didn’t have their shredded wheat today, as they played second fiddle to a very good Raheny Team and in particular an excellent forward. First half we went behind early to a couple of scores but to their credit Scoil clawed their way back to level at half time mainly due to Jack in midfield driving the kids forward and scoring the best score of half also.
Changed players around 2nd half but unfortunately the curse of this game was the insistence of our lads playing soccer rather than GAA, which killed us, as Raheny punished every loose ball we kicked away or tried to dribble. The zig zag line markings didn’t help our cause either with x3 scores against us coming off back of balls “going out” of play.
At end of the game the Ref very generously told our lads it was a draw but they know better, post match analysis!
While disappointing to see them lose their 1st game of the season, it’ll serve as a good lesson to them and requirement to stay 100% focused / limit amount of soccer skills on display / Back to Basics time for all! – Well played Raheny & look forward to playing again.

U9 Boys
The under 9 boys (assisted by Caoimhe and Niamh) played on Saturday in the furthest part of Dublin out in Garristown (some 30km from Clontarf). We played 2 games but unfortunately Garristown were too strong for Scoil and outplayed us in both games so after the success against St Monicas it was back to earth with a bump. We had a few good individual performances and Callum Boyle chipped in with a point as well as making some fine saves. In the other game the two girls gave it their all against lads who were physically bigger. So we have plenty to work on in training over the next few weeks.
U8 Football
Scoil U8s hosted 3 physically strong O’Dwyers sides in football this week. O’Dwyers had a couple of players that were able to win a lot of possession and kick from huge distances. It was very pleasing to see, however, that in the face of this the Scoil teams continued to do the right things in passing the ball to players in space and in moving to support their team mates.
The Blue team epitomised this dedication to team play and there were some fine team scores. At the back Aoibhinn was an absolute colossus and swallowed up every ball that came her way. Her catching has improved no end over the course of the season and she was always looking for the right pass to retain possession and set the team back on the attack. Aisling too, having come straight from tin whistle class, struck all the right notes, being positive in going for every 50/ 50 ball.
The Amber team never stopped trying and made some wonderful blocks and tackles. Orlaith put in a great shift in goals featuring some brilliant saves, followed by long kick outs down the wings to her team mates.
Finally, for the Maroons, Rhys made his first start for Scoil having joined last week. He put in a great performance, showing natural appetite for a tackle and some great long kicking.
Next match is hurling on Saturday at home to Castleknock @ 10 a.m.
