We would like our members to help make a decision as to the direction we would like to go in for Scoil branded gear for the foreseeable future. Above are two options we have narrowed down to: Adidas vs O’Neills. Below are a number of factors which may want to be considered before choosing.

**THREE IMPORTANT NOTES**

  1. Both tops will be available to view in person in the foyer of the Clubhouse
  2. The colour of the O’Neill’s stripes will be amber and not the fluorescent yellow pictured and on the garment in the Clubhouse

This is simply the first step, and we will be publishing a Scoil Uí Chonaill branding guidelines document soon. As the Club has grown in recent years, and access to sportswear has become more readily available and cost effective, we have seen a misalignment in a lot of the gear between different teams. It is for this reason that there is a need to formalise procedures.

A big thank you must go to Emer O’Connor, Nicola Cronin, Ramona Kennedy, Joan Cushen, Ronan Murphy, Caoimhe Ní Bhroin and Mairead Sandford who made up the team of people from different backgrounds across the Club who took this project on.

Please get in touch if you have any queries.

Family Picnic: Report & Pictures

Scoil juveniles, players and parents, turned out in force for the family picnic held to kick off the summer holidays last Saturday.

Ever-dedicated Páraic Naughton was up early on the morning getting the outdoor bar set up. The weather didn’t quite live up to his well-stocked ice-cream freezer, but the rain pretty much held off which is as good as it gets for an Irish picnic.

The event itself was a great club day where all juvenile teams got to mix away from the heat of training and matches. Parents took their ease over a couple of drinks (thanks to Ross Bissett for supplying the outdoor bar), while kids entertained themselves with some football and hurling related games and challenges (thanks to Thomas Gleeson, Dave Daly and Brendan Allen for setting up).

Brendan’s work was rewarded when he won the draw for first scorer in the Senior match (#15 scoring from an early free). Leanne Culligan won the second draw. Thanks to Clontarf Wines for supplying the prizes.

The boys u10s & u11s put their skills on show midway through the event with an exhibition match, while the u10/ u12 girls wrapped up proceedings as a rainshower came in just before the senior match.

To cap off a great day many stayed around to watch the Senior footballers play out a convincing win over Erin’s Isle to continue their strong run of form.

Here’s to bigger and better for next year. #ScoilAbú!

Meet Lucy Murphy

New to the Scoil family, meet Donegal woman 'Smurph from the Shticks' (her words, not ours!)...Lucy Murphy.

New to the Scoil family, meet Donegal woman ‘Smurph from the Shticks’ (her words, not ours!)…Lucy Murphy.

How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
I’ve been ‘involved’ for maybe 2/3 years.. but only an official member a few months!

Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
I’ve been referred to as Murph or Smurf before! But I have no preferences!

Where do you hail from?
Ballybofey, Co Donegal, ‘the shticks’

How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
While studying in Marino, Scoil ladies kindly let me join their pre season training in the Marino gym, as living in Dublin meant I couldn’t train with my club at home.  When I decided that I’d be staying in Dublin for the foreseeable future they seemed like the natural choice! I already felt like I knew the team.  I transferred this year.

Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
I would say it’s only beginning!

What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
I’m not sure.. something to do with being from Donegal I’d imagine!

What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
Not collapsing after Jonny made me do a bleep test on my first ever night at training!

What is your profession / field of study / passion?
I’m a newly qualified primary school teacher.

What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
listening to music, guitar, surfing

If you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
Tea and sandwiches in the clubhouse after some home games!

What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’?
Training on the seafront is nice, even if the wind is baltic!

Finally, if you had to describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why?
something that hibernates. I think I’d like that!

Adult Hurling

Another important week as the Intermediate Hurlers take on Cuala tonight (Wednesday) in their final IHC group game with the prize being a home 1/4 final. On Saturday they have a top of the AHL3 table clash with Erins Isle in Scoil @6.30pm.
The Junior Hurlers play Realt Dearg on Sunday afternoon.

*Please see last week’s Intermediate match reports below*

Wednesday June 21st

Scoil 3-14 Clontarf 1-11

On a warm night at the rose garden Scoil intermediate hurlers met Clontarf in round 4 of the championship.

SCOIL started in great fashion scoring two goals inside 9 minutes to open up a four point lead. CLontarf narrowed the gap to 1 point in less than 5 minutes.  Scoil dominated for the rest of the half and had opened a 4 point gap only to concede a goal on the stroke of half time. SCOIL led by 1 at the break 2:4 to 1:6.

Clontarf opened the second half brightly and took the lead. SCOIL woke up and scored 1:3 in 5 minutes to open a5 point lead. From there to the end of the game Scoil tapped over points at will to win on a final score of 3:14 to 1:11.

Scorers on the night Barry 1:5, Neil 1:3, Robert 1:1, Andy 3, Padraig Morrissey & Eoin O’Carroll 1 each.

Final championship game home to Cuala on Wednesday 5th.

Saturday June 24th

Inter hurlers played Brigids in a bad tempered game at Russell park on Saturday.

Brigids started brightly playing with the assistance of the breeze and were 6 -2 up after 18 minutes. then we woke up and scored 1:2 before half time, the goal was scored by Eoin McKay starting his first game showing great awareness and bravery to challenge the goalie and direct the high cross to the net. Score was level at half time 1:4 to 7.

After a quiet word from Tommy at half time the team performed better in the second half and we were fortunate to come out with a three point victory. The best score of the second half was a free from Eoin O’Carroll who struck a free from somewhere near the Motorway over the crossbar.

As a result of other results we are now joint top of division 3.

Scorers on the night

Barry 6, Eoin McKay 1:1, Joe 2, Robert, Andy & Eoin O 1 each.

Adult Football

Another successful week for the Senior Footballers as they beat St Marys Saggart and Erins Isle in AFL2.

Ladies Football

Scoil 4-12 Fingallians 1-7

Strong second half display from the ladies team earns a home semi final in the Cup.

This was the final game in the Cup round robin and proved more difficult than expected. Despite having most of the possession and territorial advantage, much like the Lions against the All Blacks, it was the opposition getting the early scores. From five shots Fingallians had registered 1-4 in the first 20 minutes, with some impressive and decisive counter attacks. It wasn’t until a peach of a pass from Emma Smith found Emma Condon in space to finish low and hard into the corner to register Scoil’s first score of the game. However a succession of poor wides handed the advantage and momentum back to Fingallians, who made the most of their opportunities to see Scoil trail 1-6 to 1-3 at halftime.

There were no harsh words from the management team, knowing rushed shooting was the only thing letting the side down. The players addressed themselves and encouraged each other to keep possession and be patient in poor weather conditions in Scoil.

There was an immediate improvement early in the second half and in the opening quarter of the second half, Scoil’s 3 point deficit turned into a 3 point lead. A slick passing move ended with a low driven ball into Full Forward Emma Condon, who instead of bending down, flicked the ball up into her hand and in the same motion fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. A contender for goal of the season and June’s #ScoilSkillz.

The team continued to push hard until the final whistle outscoring Fingallians in the second half 3-9 to 0-1 with some excellent scores from all over the pitch, including a rare score from Molly Power (much to Gerry Power’s disbelief).

Next up is a Championship match vs Raheny on July 19th.
