Scoil US Gala Fundraiser – Chicago 2018!

Home news

Work has started on our major Scoil Uí Chonaill Fundraiser in Chicago on 20 September.  We would love to hear from Members who have family, friends and work connections in the US and particularly in Chicago and the surrounding areas. We want to spread the word about the Scoil event especially to those in the US who may be in a position to attend, provide sponsorship, donate a prize or support the Club in some way.  Why not contact one of the names below to find out more!

Away update

As you know from our last update, this is an ambitious and exciting fundraising event taking the Scoil Uí Chonaill story to an international level.  To make it the best organised and most successful event we can, a small group from the organising committee are heading to Chicago next week.  While in Chicago they will meet up with our partners and key business people who are already committed to supporting the event. It will also be a great opportunity to spread the word about Scoil Uí Chonaill and to finalise the venue for our event.  All the details will be circulated to members once they are confirmed – watch this space!

Meet Peter Keohane!

This Kinsale man is the brains behind one of Scoil's most successful underage girl's teams, always up for a chat at the Stag Bar, you'd hear that thick Cork accent a mile away!

This Kinsale man is the brains behind one of Scoil’s most successful underage girl’s teams, always up for a chat at the Stag Bar, you’d hear that thick Cork accent a mile away!

How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
14 years

Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
This is a friendly magazine. Alas how I like to be and actually am is a gap to be closed

Where do you hail from? i.e. county, country, suburb etc.
Kinsale, Co Cork

How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
My crew gravitated here from Scoil Neassain. I loved the coffee in the bar for two weeks. Niamh Crowe and Dominic Morgan ended that.

Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
Played with Kinsale, then O Tooles. Mentor in Scoil ladies football. Now minor ladies.

What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
Manager of a fantastic bunch of young ladies. Great crew. My charity work trying to teach some lost souls how to play 45 Thursday nights. Mission impossible but we fight on.

What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
Feile 2014. Losing narrowly to the eventual All Ireland Div 1 champions Foxrock. So close to great glory.

What is your profession / field of study / passion?
Principal Donahies Community School

What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
Golf. Travel especially to TPRC. The People’s Republic of Cork. Visa’s required by non natives.

What is your favoutire sporting moment / sportsperson?
Cork v Tipp in the 80s. Last minute goal. I passed Seamas Fennessy as he climbed back over the wire out of pitch as we climbed in. Brian Corcoran, JBM, Roy Keane,Sonia O Sullivan. Phil Mickleson too.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you in Scoil?
No names. Present treasurer(Mayo man) but no names organised a card trip to Rugby in Edinburgh. No game but that explained the cheap flights.

If Scoil was a country, what would it be? Why?
North Korea. Small but the big clubs must take notice. And the Ladies are taking over.

What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’? e.g. the Geese on the pitch
100 teams training under the lights of tennis club.

If you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
Definitely an All Weather Floodlit pitch.
