AGM 2018
The Scoil Uí Chonaill 2018 Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday November 29th @8pm SHARP in the Clubhouse.
We ask that all members in their utmost capacity attend — what is discussed at this meeting serves as a transparent review of the year gone by, and a basis for what we will see in the year ahead.
Please respect fellow attendees and arrive on time.
So that’s 8pm Greenwich Mean Time (UTC +0), not 8pm Scoil Standard Time (UTC +0.5)!☻
Interested in the Executive or how the Club is run?
Please feel free to get in touch with any member of the Executive to get a perspective — remember; showing interest doesn’t mean being assigned a job — we welcome all levels of curiosity!
Junior Promotion Final(s)
One successfully down, one optimistically to go!
Scoil 2-10 St Pat’s 2-08
The Junior Hurlers set the bar with their dramatic AHL9 promotion final win over St Pat’s Palmerstown on Sunday. Congratulations to everyone involved, and in particular to Matt Cushen and Martin ‘Chubbser’ Hewitt who put in an exceptional amount of work as Matt juggled management of the AHL2 team, and Chubbs played a pivotal role on the pitch himself (although Matt deserves a shout out in this regard — jeans on the pitch are making a comeback thanks to Matt!)
The importance of this win cannot be underestimated — it only justifies the hard work & effort put in by this group of players this yearm but it ensures our Hurlers who have ambitions for Senior Hurling have a huigher standard of regular games next year.
It’s also the first final some of these lads have ever won in Scoil — with one of the players being quoted as saying:
“I’ve played in so many finals in 27 years with the Club and this is the first I’ve ever won!”
See pictures from the match below — thanks to photographer Ramona Kennedy!

So now it’s over to our Junior Footballers to see if they can follow suit in their own (AFL7) promotion final vs Cuala.
Please get out & support the AFL7 lads @11am this Sunday (25th) in Hyde Park
Minor Final
St Pauls 3-8 Ballyboden 2-16
Disappointment for the Minor boys as Ballyboden win out after a hard fought contest. We started very well & for the first quarter had most of the possession, Jake Prendergast & David Kennedy winning the early midfield battles – unfortunately we didn’t convert the early possession into scores. Once we settled the scores did start to come with good points from David Kennedy & Sean Taaffe & great goal from Robert McBride. Gradually Ballyboden got a foothold in the game & a late goal just before half-time meant that Ballyboden went in 2 points ahead 1-7 to 1-5. Scoils’ Adam Nolan at centre back who had been playing well had to go off injured just before half time – Adam was a big loss to our defence.
Ballyboden had the breeze for the second half and were a bit more clinical converting their chances than we had been, allowing them to stretch their lead. Josh Fitzpatrick, Sean Downes & Peter Cronin at half back & Ian Hattaway & Kealen Donohue in the full back line never gave up & kept taking the game to Ballyboden. Jake Prendergast put in a huge effort around the middle of the park & a few more scores from David Kennedy & another goal from Robert McBride helped us to keep in touch. Donal MacKay, Jordan Dunne & Feargal O’Connell kept working to create chances up front and a goal with 10 minutes to go from Eoin Sterio brought it back to a 2 point game but unfortunately that was as close as we got.
A real battling performance from St Pauls who fought to the very end, the lads were a credit to their respective clubs. A great experience for everyone involved.
Thanks to all from Scoil who came out to support us on the day.
Well done to all the Scoil lads involved – Kealen Donohue, Calum Osbourne, Peter Cronin, Adam Nolan, Sean Downes, David Kennedy, Feargal O’Connell, Ben McDermott, Donal MacKay, Eoin Sterio, Richard Nugent, Ciaran MacDonald, Jordan Boylan – not just for Sunday but for all the effort to get through the group stage & qtr & semi final games too.

u9 Football blitz Vs Naomh Barrog and St Maurs
The u9s continued their late season resurgence with good performances in the blitz hosted by Naomh Barrog in St Annes Park.
The Maroons were dominant in both their matches as Jake was having one if his days lording it over midfield. He was ably supported by the ever improving Zach. Darragh was a rock in defence, while Fionnán too made some vital blocks and tackles. It was the kind of high energy performance that the coaches have been encouraging in recent training sessions, with players constantly on the move, and the man in possession looking for the right pass to the man in most space. The performance was capped by Jake with two of the most sumptuous points to grace an under 9 match. They were scored out on the left wing … and with his good foot, but not his better foot!
The Blue Team played really well but struggled a little to convert their chances. Noah, who had battled his way back from illness to be there, put in a fully committed performance and Joseph made good contributions around the field. Ben and Fionn also battled bravely throughout.
The Amber team started slowly and found themselves behind early on. But they showed great character to get themselves back into the first game and went on a great run of scores as the game wore on. Sam was inspirational in turning the tide as he came bursting out of defense time and again. He began to form a great partnership with Brodie who was unstoppable at times. In the second game, the team picked up where they left off in the first game. Cody’s kick outs were magnificent throughout, while Jamie and Matthew put in physical displays in the backs. Eoin got himself a tidy point from a free when tripped after a sharp turn in attack and indeed it was the spread of scores throughout the team that was most pleasing on the day.
Keep practising with both feet throughout December and January. The coaches will be looking out for who has improved on their other foot when football resumes in January.
U7 Academy
The under 7 (Nursery Blues) boys and girls were in Binn Eadair last Saturday for three football matches. It was a tough enough encounter and the children had to play hard to get the ball and then to keep posession. However once they had scoring opportunities they made the most of these opportunities. Eleni scored a great point and Jason scored the only score of the second match to win it! Gene demonstrated the value of coaching the handpass with a great handpass point over the bar. In Midfield, Ryan played on despite an opponent standing on his hand. The Kelly twins Orla and Aisling in two different teams did some great blocking work in and out of goals. Liam also made some great saves in goals. Overall a great morning for the young players who kept going and showed their ability to keep pace through the three matches against tough enough opposition. Back in Larkin College on Monday evening for hurling training.
