A skillful, socialite transfer from the Kingdom of Kerry, 3 time survivor of the Louth men’s dreaded pre-season, Scoil’s very own Marty Party!

How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
3 years by the time the summer comes around

Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
Generally just Tierney, though there might be worse said behind my back during pre-season!

Where do you hail from?
The Kingdom of Kerry

How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
Danny Nolan, from my home club Kerins O’Rahillys was playing with Scoil in 2015. We had an under 21 Championship Final coming up at home so my manager got in touch with Danny about getting me to do a bit of training up here. Once I knew the lads, I was never really going to join anyone else once I decided I was moving

Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
Still yet to win a championship game but have played two full league campaigns. I also dabble in a bit of hurling…..

What was the funniest thing that has happened to you in Scoil?
It wasn’t funny at the time, but looking back the shock I got the first pre-season. There’s a particular hill in a forest in Louth that I still have nightmares about

What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
Probably drinking a bit too much and not training hard enough

What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
Unfortunately not many (yet!), maybe surviving pre season

What is your profession / field of study / passion?
Depository Receipts Settlements Administrator at BNY Mellon, I don’t have a clue what it means either.

What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
I enjoy the occasional night out.

What is your favoutire sporting moment / sportsperson?
Robbie Bradys winning goal for Ireland against Italy in Euro 2016. I was there (We don’t mention that I missed 3 league games that summer because I was over there)

What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’?
How friendly and welcoming everyone is to each other, its genuinely not seen in any other club I’ve known

If you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
I’ve already began my lobbying for a balcony near the bar facing out onto the pitch so I can enjoy my retirement years watching Scoil with a few pints.

Junior Hurlers

A great performance by the Junior Hurlers in their first league match of 2018 with a comprehensive win over Kilmacud Crokes – final Scoil 4-18 to 3-1.  Scoil were in control throughout the field with the defence limiting the Kilmacud attack to a small number of chances.

The win was built on a great return from the full forward line with David Kennedy (0-9), Padraig Kelly (1-1) and the sparking James O’Connell (2-1) converting their chances. Excellent contributions also from Sam Callan, Tomas O’Connell (1-1), Ruairi Egan (0-2), Mark Cunningham (0-3) and Kevin Farrell (0-1). Next game is on Sunday 11 March v Na Fianna.

Minor Girls

Game one of the Minor Ladies Div 2 season resulted in a great 2-10 to 0-6 win for Scoil over Skerries Harps in Scoil last Sat. This was an all round excellent performance from all girls, considering it was the opening competitive game of the season. Scoil were a little slow to start but once the girls hit top gear Skerries had no answer. Some great displays from all girls but a special mention to Caoimhe Mulligan and Caoimhe Keohane  who were making their minor debuts. However the player of the game was Aisling Abernethy who produced a string of incredible saves throughout the game.

This team is very proud that our Hannah Leahy is the vice captain of the Dublin minors this year and we wish her every success. The spirit of the team was summed up by having our captain Eirinn Heery who is not long out of hospital after illness, present on the line to encourage her team mates. She’ll be back in the no 6 jersey in no time.

Team: Aisling Abernethy, Anna Williams capt,Ciara Morgan, Caoimhe Mulligan; Riona Phelan, Caelinn Ni Bhroinn,Sarah Keohane; Anna Power, Hannah Leahy; Lily Kavanagh. Caoimhe de Búitléar, Niamh Nestor; Martha Clarke,Katie O Rourke, Derbhla Sheppard, Caoimhe Keohane and Ella McCloskey.

Minor boys

Scoil minor footballers have joined forces with O’Tooles minors for the 2018 season – we are playing in Div 3 as St Paul’s GAA.

Our first league match was last weekend & despite losing to St Catherine’s in Westmanstown the performance was very encouraging. Strong performances from Peter Cronin, David Kennedy & Sean Downes. Next up will be Erin’s isles on March 11th in Clontarf.

U16 Girls

We really want to beat Na Fianna” was one of our players comments before the game. We had a full team of mixed ages but equal determination playing what was, it seems, a full under 16 team. We started on a high with a point and from then on it was evident that this was going to be a tough match. At half time we were ahead but knew that the second half playing uphill was going to be tougher and so it proved.Na Fianna came at us with all guns blazing and nobody was going to leave the game early as they drew nerve bitingly near and then just before the end equalised with us. We held our nerve and finally ended with two point to spare but it was close and tough. Scoil 2-11 Na Fianna 2-9.

Caoimhe was our opening scorer but this was a game of lots of points and Sadhbh and Eve helped us on the score sheet. Our backs were magnificent as they fought off wave after wave of Na Fianna attacks while Isabelle made save after save and their team-mates kept pushing for more scores even when it seemed that it was too late. This was a real game of guts. The need for subs was demonstrated when Lia went over on her ankle but luckily is ok and Caoimhe got a blow which ended with a trip to Temple Street and a broken nose. Get well soon Caoimhe and it was absolutely lovely to see how many good luck wishes for her recovery came in on what’s app. More team spirit!

U15 Girls

There were two games played on Saturday the first being “Hunt the pitch” as our parents searched for the pitch owing to some changes of venue by Raheny.. We had the bare fifteen players and Raheny looked to have a bigger and stronger panel. We were not surprised that the score at half time saw them with a two goal lead. However in the second half, cheered on by some very vocal parents, our girls got their act together and really hammered it home to Raheny’s evident disbelief.  With a wave of scores they were leading by three goals when Caoimhe arrived ten minutes before the end to punch in two more goals to the absolute delight of all our supporters. The final score of 3,8 to Raheny to Scoil’s 7.6 said it all. Tús ana mhait leath na hoibre.

All fifteen girls played their hearts out. It was very evident that those training for Feile Meadhbh Aine and Reailtin had benefited greatly by the extra training as they played with new skill and teamwork and helped us begin to turn the tide.  Liadán who was new to our team was like a rocket racing up and down until she got an elbow in the chest and had to be taken off. Delighted to hear you are ok Liadán.  Sara was equally fast and efficient.  Lia made some fantastic saves and of course our stalwarts Jody, Siofra. Siobhan and Sadhbh showed their leadership skills to their younger teammates Meibhin was always in evidence shadowing her opponent and Kellyann was like a brick wall defending her territory while Eve was always where she was needed as was the very capable Aoibheann. Isabelle’s strong kicks were instrumental in helping us go into the lead.  In fact all the girls played their hearts out and there were lots of smiling faces when they left the pitch.

U10 Hurling

Once again we had 2 games at the weekend.

Saturday – Away Against Wild Geese
Two great games against Wild Geese which I think we won. The benefits of playing in Gormanstown for the past 5 weeks were very apparent an the kids were sharp and competitive.

  • Team Brendan – Particularly well done to our player of the match  Esme – Cillians 8 year old sister. Despite being about 2 years younger and a good bit smaller she was happy to tog out for the game in defense and didn’t let anyone past without a fight. Great to see Paddy back with some great scores and David our reluctant hurler who did really well in goals.
  • Team Alan – A good win for the lads and some great skill points as well as scores. Conor Meehan again defending well and well able to get the ball out a long distance from the puck out. Good contributions from all the rest of the lads in an overall good team performance.

Sunday – Gormanstown Indoor Hurling Tournament
Sunday was our last game in the tournament and we finished on a high.We had a good win against O’Dwyers  4-1 with 2 goals each from Tadhg and Luke.

Well to all the kids on Sunday and to those that couldn’t make this week but played in previous weeks.

Thanks to the parents and fellow coaches Colin Cormac and Alan for bringing kids and encouraging them every week. I think the kids are really coming together as a team and winning obviously helps too. The tournament has been great for winter hurling.

U9 Hurling

Our U9’s travelled to St Pat’s Donabate for our first hurling league match of the season on a bitterly cold Saturday morning. Fortunately, our loyal supporters’ temperatures were raised by the enthusiastic and energetic performances on the field.

The Red team worked hard and did their best during the game. In particular, Emily and Rory covered acres and were very quick to close down their opponents. Sean showed that he has continued to practice his striking at home and hit some great sideline balls.

For the Amber team, Aodh and Eoin hit some long, fast strikes on both sides and also closed down their opponents to prevent them from lifting the sliotar. Tadhg had a great game in defence with some excellent tackling and blocking.

Everyone on the Blue team played really well as they held on for an epic win.  Having been 3 – 0 up at half time, we weathered the storm of St Pat’s comeback to dig in for a 5-4 win with 2 late goals. It would be unfair to single out any one player as this was a total team effort with everyone working hard and doing their best.

Despite outstanding efforts by all 3 teams, being our first match of the season, there was an unsurprising rustiness to our striking and some delays in getting the ball in to our forwards. Improving the crispness and speed of striking gives us something to work on in training and when practicing at home.

Nursey

Well done to the Nursey Player's of the Week Luke, Danny, Ben and Donnacha!
