Scoilman turns First Citizen!

On behalf of the Club we would like to congratulate Nial Ring on his appointment as the 349th Lord Mayor of Dublin.

Something you maybe didn’t know about our new first citizen, is that he too is a Scoilman!

In fact, Mr Ring was first elected as councillor of the North East Inner City in 2009 local elections and was re-eleted in 2014.

Fitting so that he will be attending The Oneness Gala in September!

Doe’s Day!

The Club are organising a mini 7-a-side event on Sunday 12th August for girls aged 13-19, Adult Ladies & G4M&Os.

Games will start @ 12pm followed by a BBQ and drinks in the Stag Bar – with the TG4 All Ireland quarter finals being shown!

A day filled entirely with Ladies Football…

Can you think of a better way to spend a Sunday?

Two Irish Athletes Walk into a Bar..

Here is Stevo again with Keelan Smithers, both on their way to Croke Park last weekend.

Keelan pitched for Ireland in the recent European Pool C Baseball Championships.

Ireland beat Greece in the final on Saturday 12-2 where Keelan was voted pitcher of the tournament!

Meet Aideen Naughton!

One of the Naughtons, she's so alt she played ladies football before a Scoil team even existed, known as Coach A and the one who starts on refs!

How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
Since the day I was born, a solid 28 years at this stage!

Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
Aido

Where do you hail from? i.e. county, country, suburb etc.
Clontarf, Dublin

How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
I was born or some may say brain washed into Scoil by my various family connections!

Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
Began playing hurling & gaelic football with the boys team until I was about 10 years old. The first Ladies team was setup around then & I played up on the first Ladies U14 team. I retired for a 10 year period to play camogie for a team who must not be named… and 2018 was the year myself, Alva Cushen & Rach Mulligan made our football comeback! I also had the pleasure of coaching alongside Colm Kennedy for about a 5 or 6 year timeframe, coaching the lads hurling & gaelic football. It makes me feel extremely old to see these guys now playing on adult hurling team! Coached a few camps along the way & that pretty much sums up my Scoil career!

What is your favourite sporting moment / sportsperson?
Dublin hurlers winning the National Hurling League in 2011 & the Bob O’Keeffe in 2013.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you in Scoil?
I’m sure some people found my occasional meltdown at some poor referee, back in my hey day, amusing! I never found it too amusing…

What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
Coaching or else Tommy’s daughter…

What is your profession / field of study / passion?
Sports Coach/ Performance Analyst. I suppose I would call myself a GAA enthusiast!

What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
There are hobbies outside the GAA??

What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’? e.g. the Geese on the pitch
I suppose our jerseys are definitely one of a kind!

Finally, if you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
Access to the roof – would have made my life easier to video matches!

Team News

Ladies A Football

Erins Isles 1-10  Scoil Ui Chonaill 5-17

An impressive second half performance secured a fine championship win for the ladies first team.

This was only the team`s third game in the last ten weeks and the lack of match practice was evident in the first half where several scoring opportunities, including a penalty, were missed. The half time score was Isles 1-6 Scoil 0-9.

Hannah Leahy was making her first start since her stint as vice captain of the Dublin minor team. For the second half she was switched to midfield and the move paid immediate dividends as she played a key part in the first three attacks which yielded 1-2. She then scored a fine solo goal herself. Scoil completely dominated the second half and outscored the opposition 5-8 to 0-4. There were some fine scores from Sinead and Aoife de Burca, Sophie Gibney and Caoimhe de Buitlear.

While Hannah was disappointed that the Dublin minors were defeated in the All Ireland semi final, the good news is that she has been called up to train with the Dublin Senior squad. The team defeated Mayo last Saturday in a game televised on TG4. Some eagle eyed observers may have spotted Hannah in her Maor Uisce role. As far as her team mates and mentors in Scoil are concerned, Hannah will have a more important role to play in the Dublin team in the near future

Scoil Sirens

Never a dull training session with the Scoil Sirens! From new born babies to pre-teen gals – nothing stands in the way of Tuesday night’s training!
