Stags on the Dubs Scene

After weeks of tough training, the Dublin U17 Girls Development squad headed to Abbotstown for the All Ireland National Blitz.

For the 2nd year in a row the Dublin Girls won the Blitz!

Well done to Scoilwoman Caelinn Ní Bhroin and all of the squad.

Special mention to Aidan Mulligan who was part of the management team.

Join the Scoil Sirens!

The Scoil Sirens team are back with a bang after their successful outing at the Scoil Ladies 7’s recently.

We’d like to extend a a warm welcome to any interested ladies to join us this September. With the emphasis on fun, fitness & friendship with a bit of LGFA thrown in. Only condition is you’re over 18 and don’t play for a Senior Ladies team anywhere.

We follow a strict code of Ethics set down by the LGFA under the G4M&O initiative. With no previous experience of Football at all necessary, this is the team to join for a bit of craic.

Training: Tues 28th August 7pm-8pm

Contact: Mairead O’Sullivan 086 2675392

Good Luck, Pat!

We send our best wishes to Pat Madigan who has completed his tenure as ‘Head of House’ in O’Connell Schools this week.

Pat has been a great supporter of the Club over the past few years and we wish we well on his move to Artane.

We hope he will continue to visit the Club and support our activities from his new home.

Picture Appeal

Calling all Club members, an appeal has been sent into Scoil HQ from former Scoilman Joe Colgan – who is searching for the 1967 U21 Championship winning team photo.

This is the only U21 Championship the Club has ever won – so let’s hope we can help this fellow Stag out!

Gold for Keane!

Super stuff from Ellen Keane who won two medals at the World Para Swimming European Championships last week!

Keane secured a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke SB8 and a bronze in the 200m medley!

What a woman! #Bród

Meet Alva Cushen!

Can be found behind the bar or dancing on it, one of the infamous Cushen's, she's out of retirement and back with a bang - player, coach and a whole lot of craic! Scoil's girl next door..

How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
Well I’m 27 so probably about 27 years!!

Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
Nope, just Alva

Where do you hail from? i.e. county, country, suburb etc.
Born and bred in Drumcondra

How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
I suppose I was born into it as my mam and dad met here!

Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
It ranges from being there on the first day that ladies football was introduced in Scoil to coaching at camps. I took an extended break but since January I’ve been playing with the Ladies B team and really enjoying it!

What is your favourite sporting moment / sportsperson? (any club, any sport)
Bias I know (or because Barry would kill me if it wasn’t mentioned) but it has to be the feeling at the end of the Senior hurling promotion final last year with lots of family members involved with the team.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you in Scoil?
Hard to explain, but I did unknowingly walk into a club dinner dance one year with a tennis ball stuck in my shoe!! (Don’t ask!!)

If Scoil was a country, what would it be? Why (optional)?
Croatia, small in numbers, often the underdog but always hold our own amongst the big dogs…..and we sure know how to throw a party!!

What would you say you are most known for within Scoil?
Unfortunately not for my sporting ability but most likely for being a member of the Cushen family.

What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
Captaining an all boys Scoil hurling team at half time of an All Ireland Quarter Final in Croke Park. I may not have touched the ball but if anyone asks I was still the captain!!

What is your profession / field of study / passion?
I’m an English and Geography teacher in Ardgillan Community College.

What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
I have a love for drama and I’ve been known to enjoy some retail therapy and the odd social gathering!

What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’? e.g. the Geese on the pitch
It’s been said a few times but I really love the jersey!! You can spot us playing a mile off!

Finally, if you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
An all weather pitch with floodlights is probably the most obvious!

Want to feature in the Stag’s Voice?

As a Club, we really pride ourselves on the close-knit community that we have at Scoil Uí Chonaill – help us in our effort in getting to know all of our members by filling out the Meet the Member’s Questionnaire!
