Naughtons don’t just play GAA?
Massive congratulations to James Naughton and the Irish CP Football team who sealed bronze at the European Championships by beating hosts The Netherlands 2-1!
James who usually plays in goals, was played outfield due to his 2 broken hands!
Meet Eve Courtney!
How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
Since I was 9
Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
Normally Eve, my name is short enough!
Where do you hail from? i.e. county, country, suburb etc.
Balgriffin
How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
My brother Alex had been involved for a couple of years. My Dad, Joanne Courtney (ex GPO) and my classmates in Scoil Neasáin gradually wore me down, until I gave in and joined!
Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
I play with the u15 and u16 teams mostly. Earlier in the year I got to play my actual age with the u14 team for Feile. I also was lucky enough to be asked to play with the Ladies Senior B team and recently the Ladies Senior A team. I’ve helped out with some camps over the past year aswell.
What is your favourite sporting moment / sportsperson?
When the Dublin Ladies won the All Ireland Final last year after losing in previous years.
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you in Scoil?
When my dad and Aidan Mulligan as managers, almost got sent to the carpark at feile three years ago.
If Scoil was a country, what would it be? Why?
Ireland, because it’s small and everyone seems to know each other.
What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
I hope I’m known for being a committed player but I’d say I’m most likely known as Jp’s daughter!
What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
Captaining the U14s to a Feile final which we unfortunately lost.
What is your profession / field of study / passion?
Just starting second year in secondary school.
What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
Not that I have much time outside of GAA but I play the piano and a bit of basketball in school.
What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’? e.g. the Geese on the pitch
The jersey, it certainly makes us stand out!
Finally, if you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
A water tap/drinking fountain outside
Want to feature in the Stag’s Voice?
As a Club, we really pride ourselves on the close-knit community that we have at Scoil Uí Chonaill – help us in our effort in getting to know all of our members by filling out the Meet the Member’s Questionnaire!
Team News
AFL2
Senior Footballers with a comfortable win vs Na Fianna in their last mid-week match of 2018.
Ladies A Team
O`Dwyers 7-15 Scoil 5-14
Loss in an exciting game spells the end of Ladies team championship hopes.
This was a winner takes all game as O`Dwyers had lost to St Peregrines, while Scoil had no option but to concede a walkover to Peregrines a few weeks earlier. Despite the high stakes, both teams played open attacking football with some marvellous scores, although, it must be admitted that there were also some goals of the “soft” variety conceded by both teams.
O`Dwyers made a flying start and scored 3 goals to take what looked a commanding lead. However, thanks to the surging runs of Molly Power, Hannah Leahy and the Ni Bhroin sisters, Scoil created plenty of scoring opportunities. Solo goals from Naoise and Caelinn gave Scoil a half time lead of 3-8 to 3-4.
The start of the second half saw O`Dwyers not only eliminate the lead but go into the lead themselves. Scoil never stopped trying and some brilliant scores from Sinead de Burca and Sophie Gibney kept the outcome in doubt until the final minutes.
A brave performance from the whole team but a special mention for Nicole Rock who played the full game in spite of being in severe pain. A visit to the doctor the following morning, resulted in her being referred to the Mater Hospital where she spent 4 nights. We breed them tough on the Ladies team
