Feile Fundraiser

Our U14 Féile teams and their mentors had a hugely successful event this past weekend with their ‘Suds and Sizzler’. Despite increment weather conditions, plenty of cars were washed and the barbecue remained on! We raised just over €2000 for the Féile teams, which is a superb figure! A huge thank you to everyone who came out and supported this event. We will no doubt look to host this event again (when the weather is a bit nicer!)

Team News

Senior Hurlers: Scoil 1-11 Thomas Davis 3-13. Senior hurlers were beaten by Thomas Davis in AHL 2 this past weekend. In a closely contested first half, Scoil found themselves in the lead after 10 minutes. Davis’ grew back into the game as it progressed, and scored 2 goals before the break. With a fierce wind behind them in the second half, Scoil were wrongfully disallowed a clear goal after some confusion with umpires. Momentum was with Scoil at the time and the decision seemed to knock the wind out of their sail.

Junior Hurlers: Junior hurlers were narrowly defeated at the end of a closely fought game in AHL 8. On a blustery afternoon, the wind had a huge effect on the game and meant that neither team could get to grips with the occasion. Scoil were beaten by the last puck of the ball. Positive signs for moving forward, however.

U16 Girls: Under 16 girls start league on a winning note against Parnells.

It’s not often that Paul Keane is speechless but he confessed that he simply couldn’t say anything to the squad at half time.  After all they had had done absolutely everything he and Brian had been teaching them in training.  Parnells had started well with a few scores but suddenly Scoil decided enough was enough and they fought back valiantly and went ahead. So Paul left it to Siofra at half time  to add a few words of encouragement. Full back Siobhan, as captain had led brilliantly by example and every one of the seventeen girls present played a blinder in this game.  So Dublin aren’t the only team to use their full squad to win games. The question was would the girls continue the good work in the second half? After all they had just been promoted to division three and Parnells would probably have been expecting to win, especially as they were at home.   On a bitterly cold day the girls even better second half performance warmed the cockles of the hearts of their frozen supporters. Training since the beginning of January had definitely helped their fitness levels and they played with skill, determination and competitiveness. In fact they were a joy to watch. In the words of one long time supporter it was the best game he had ever seen this squad play.  Their passing to each other was superb and this game was definitely all about team play.  The fact that this was their first game this season and an away one at that makes their victory so sweet

The final score Scoil 8.9 to Parnells 3.10 has shown just what this team can do.  Keep it up girls.

Next game is the 24/3/2019 home against Fingal Ravens.

U12’s: Scoil U12 Hurlers travelled the M50 this morning to take on Ballyboden Gaa.
Without the likes of regular starters such as Conall, Niall, Alan & Addi; Our team were left without any subs.
Now it would be easy to accept defeat before the game even started but that’s not the way this team rolls!!

Playing into the wind 1st half against a cutting breeze, our defence were absolutely immense. They harried and fought for every Sliothar.
Tadhg Leahy in goal and his long range puck outs kept opposition at bay and he was very unfortunate to concede their first goal.
Lads kept their shape and went into half time 2-1 – 1-1 down.

Obviously given the strong winds and home advantage, Ballyboden came out swinging (literally) which resulted in a couple of tasty exchanges from both sidelines.
I think Alex Courtney keeps drawing the short straw in our games, as once again his marker was Goliath in size but he took the fouls, protecting the back line with his battle ready comrades, Fahad & Diarmuid.

Adam & Oran were taking their fair share of abuse with level of chopping. While Adam picked up a yellow card, home advantage appeared to protect opposition whom did well to not have some players see red!

Adam managed to score 3-2 from mid & half back line, which was unbelievable for the attention he received. Fionn (0-2) & Luke (0-1) were our other scorers with both putting in some shift also.

Unfortunately, a great catch by Tadhg (New) didn’t result in a score but it was super catch under pressure – No doubt he’ll get next one.

Liam had his best hurling game in my opinion and despite his size was hooking and harrying with Nathan doing likewise.

Aurelien & Conor led the line and despite not scoring they did combine to win penalty which Adam dispatched with aplomb. That score seemed to take the wind out of Ballyboden sails and a few stunning long range scores thereafter sealed what was an incredible “backs to the wall” win for Scoil.

This result was fully justified and spoke volumes of our U12 Lads determination, desire, unwillingness to be bullied by physically bigger teams but most importantly it showed their Team Ethos/Spirit

U11 Camogie

Team Green played two very competitive matches on Sunday morning against two very physically strong teams. The gale force wind had a big impact and suited the oppositions ground striking style over our superior aerial ability. Despite this it was great to see so many of our players confidence lifting in such a physically challenging match. In the first match against Clontarf we took an early lead with the wind and defended stoutly against the breeze to hang on for a narrow win. In the second match we played well with the wind but failed to take our chances and left ourselves with a lot to do against the breeze. However our players responded to the half time rally and took control of the match against the wind. However scoring against a stiff breeze proved difficult and we were unlucky only to get a draw out of the game. Aoibhinn was outstanding in midfield along with the ever dependable Aishat. Aoife did a crucial job at the back quick thinking long clearances out of the danger area. All players contributed to another great day’s camogie action.

Team Amber played two very competitive matches against Na Fianna and Clontarf. First up was Na Fianna, who were a taller and physically bigger side than Scoil but undaunted the girls met the challenge head on. The game ended in a draw but the Scoil girls demonstrated better all round skills and were unlucky not to get a win. Against Clontarf the girls were 3 scores down at half time having played into a strong breeze. In the second half the Scoil girls brought the game game back to one score and looked odds on for a win. However some missed chances and a few tired legs allowed the opposition to take the spoils. Overall these were excellent team performances against strong opposition. Everyone contributed across the field with particular praise for Abbey who put in a typical battling performance.

Under 10 Camogie

Scoil under 10s hosted St Sylvester’s on Saturday afternoon who were playing their first ever camogie game in the club with the occasion being covered by the Fingal Independent!  We wish Sylvester’s all the best for the future. Each of the Scoil teams played 2 matches and thankfully the weather held up for the duration.

Team Blue put on great performances in their 2 games with strong defence, running midfielders and positive attacking forwards.  Abbey and Emily definitely led by example and covered lots of ground. The first game went well from Scoil’s point of view with Scoil’s experience of matches on show with good ground and air hurling. The second game was a closer affair and had the save of the month from the Sylvester’s goalkeeper to keep out a bullet like shot from 30 metres. The Scoil ground striking was excellent in both games. It even caused the referee to caution our players to be careful that someone might get hurt, such was the power generated from the swing!!!! Most of the girls continued to try and lift and strike the  ball and as the game went on the aspect was a clear difference between the teams. Well done to Ella and Roisin Ni Dhuda for excellent performances. Keep up the practice.

Team Red had two great wins for Team Red against St Sylvesters. Again some excellent striking was on show from the girls with everyone contributing.
The Maher sisters were on fire battling for every ball. Millie has developed a crisp ground strike and a real eye for goal. Great to see Aisling putting in such a strong performance which included a brilliant point. Abigail was ever dependent with some fine clearances from the back. Finally, well done to Phoebe on her first camogie match with the team.

U10’s: For the second week in a row, we traveled to St Peregrines. Due to the long grass, the coaches asked the players to jab lift the ball and take four steps at every possible occasion. To their credit, most of the players tried to do this, although we need to work on striking the ball in the air with more confidence, accuracy and speed.

Team John started the game with a numerical disadvantage and fell behind on the scoreboard. Despite this, we did not give up and battled strongly in the first half.

One of the highlights of the first half was Jamie’s execution of a perfect hook  – using the exact technique that we have been practicing. What was even more impressive was that he repeated the feat in the second half! Not to be outdone, Matthew also executed a perfect hook in the first half. The hook is an important tackling skill so it is great to see it being used on three occasions in a match.

Danny made two fine saves in goal to keep the score down in the first half while Joseph scored a cracking goal to keep us in touch. Brodie showed real character and determination by doing his best and driving us on despite playing with an injured wrist.

In the second half, we found the going tougher playing against a strong wind. However, there were a number of positives to take from the game.  In particular, our supporters got to enjoy “The Sam Show”, as Sam demonstrated his full range of wonderful skills – block down, high catch, jab lifting, striking on both sides and a smart hand pass to Brodie who almost scored a wonderful goal. Matthew also went close with a super strike from distance.

A huge thanks to our guest player, Orlaith who had a super game and showed how to clear our lines with long strikes.

Team Cormac started strongly but found the going tough against a physically bigger team who began to dominate the 50/50 exchanges.  Conan, however, set the example, forced many turnovers and, by putting pressure on opponents, caused them to shoot wide.

At half time the team were asked about positives to the first half and they all saw that Conan’s fighting spirit was the shining light.

The second half saw a hugely improved performance. Eoin put in some smashing tackles at full back. Shay was first to the sliotar on countless occasions, lifting brilliantly and bringing the attack to Peregrines.

Points were few as the lads struggled to strike the ball over the bar on the run. But if we master this skill, there could well be a different outcome next time these teams meet.

Note to parents: For the coming weeks, our training sessions are going to focus on air hurling – at match tempo. As this will be another step up, please help the players to practice  at every opportunity.

U9’s: Under 8s continued their season with a local derby on Scoil grounds in three spirited hurling matches against St.Vincents of Marino.  Well wrapped up, the rain stayed away for the three matches and after a tough start the Scoil teams settled into the games with the indoor training from Gormanstown standing to them. The three teams were tested with some long shots and tight defending from the Marino boys. The Mc Mullen brothers Fred and Bill played a crucial part in Scoil being able to get at least 50% possession in all their matches. Jason was also back in fine form after his illness and wasn’t afraid to tackle for the ball. Orla and Aisling Kelly also played great and attended well to any balls that came their way. Orla Sherlock also made some great strikes.

We are down to play Binn Eadair this Saturday for football.

U7’s: The U7s played their first football match against a determined and strong Raheny U7 teams. Conditions were not ideal for football with strong chilly easterly winds causing havoc.

Team Jason worked hard and had some brilliant passages of play with excellent passing by Bobby and Roisin with Cal and Aoibheann scoring some great points.

Team Ruairi’s first game was tough however by the second game the kids really played well with Aoife and Lily working hard in midfield and Danny scoring a peach of a point from the side-line curling it in. Rhyleigh made some excellent saves too.

Team Sean played really well against the three teams with Donnchadh and Sean combining well to score some super points. Aoibhinn and Eimear worked tirelessly in defence stopping a number of goal chances.
Overall the teams did great on their first. Well done.

Note: Training will now start at 0930 until 11. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before training.

Nursery: It was a cold and windy morning down in Alfie Byrne road and still over 20 green and yellows kids braved the elements. They were split into two groups and worked on their football and hurling skills concentrating on dribbling, hand passing, kicking and striking.
