Féile Footballers
Congratulations to the Féile football team who made the Division 6 final over the weekend. Scoil Under 14 footballers put in a massive effort over the two days. Scoil arrived in Castleknock well prepared and togged out in their new gear.
Scoil 2-4 Maurs 2-5
The opening game was against St Maurs who took command early in the game with their towering midfielder dominant in the first half.
Scoil rallied in the second half and came to within one point of Maurs but the full time whistle blew as Scoil were finishing strongly.
The lads weren’t too disappointed and the teams experienced coaches, Richie, Finbarr and Darren made sure the lads took the positives out of a very good second half performance.
Scoil 2-6 Craobh 2-3
Scoil’s second outing was against Craobh Chirain and Scoil came out of the blocks strongly with Cathal Murphy hitting the back of the net with a well worked goal. Scoil’s back line were in total control with Eoghan, Eoin, Killian, Sean and Oisin setting up attacks for our hard working midfield of Brendan and Stephen to feed the ball into our forward line. Luke took on the Craobh full back every time he got the ball and hit an excellent goal and some further assists. Cathal took his second goal well to leave Scoil in total control at half-time. Craobh rallied in the second half but Scoil ended the game with a three point win and all set for their final outing with the hosts Castleknock with a win guaranteeing a semi-final place.
Scoil 4-2 Castleknock 2-2
Scoil starting the Castleknock well with Jack and Tony lively in the half forward line and creating chances for Luke to convert. Roan took his chance brilliantly with a super finish to the bottom left hand corner. Sean Morgan had to leave the field with a knock to the head, thankfully Sean is recovering well following a check at Temple Street and we wish him well in his recovery. The hosts didn’t go down without a fight and rallied with a goal that Sunny didn’t have a chance to stop. Scoil stepped up their performance in the second half and although a number of lads had knocks they kept going to see out the win with a 6 point victory.
Scoil finished the group in second place which meant a semi-final in Bohernabreena against hosts St Anne’s.
Scoil 5-4 St Annes 1-4
The trip didn’t faze the lads who produced their best football of the day to dominate the game from start to finish. It wouldn’t be fair to single out individuals as the lads showed fantastic energy and football to win the game by 12 points.
The super Scoil travelling support gave the lads a big roar as the final whistle blew to secure a place in the final on Sunday in O’Toole Park at 12.
FINAL – Scoil 0-3 Maurs 2-3
If ever a score doesn’t reflect a game, this is the one! Scoil played some good football, nullified the main Maurs threat but just couldn’t get the scores. The crossbar, post, upwright were all hit….the lads kept going to the end which typified their hard work and attitude over the weekend that made our club proud to be supporting these boys. There was understanbdably disappointment at the end but Club Chairman Mossy O’Connell got the lads together and told them how proud the many supporters were of their performance. It was back to the club for some pizza and drinks watching brilliant photos produced by Alfie and put together by Sinead who also organised pizza, thanks Sinead!

Ladies Footballers: Na Fianna 5-4 Scoil ui Chonaill B 3-12
There was no game for the adult A team, but the B team continued their good start to the season with a fine win away to Na Fianna.
While the winning margin was only 2 points, it should have been a more comfortable victory. The Na Fianna full forward line had a shoot for goals policy and it paid dividends early on as they scored 3 quick goals. At the other end the Scoil forwards squandered several point scoring opportunities, including some very scoreable frees. The Scoil half back line of Martha Clarke, Sarah Keohane and Emly McMullen were completely on top throughout. They provided plenty of possession for the Scoil forward line and they should have had more scores on the board at half time.
The introduction of Holly O`Rourke, another one of the club`s talented young players made a difference as she scored 2 good goals. Along with her sister Katie, they posed plenty of problems for the Na Fianna defence. The outcome of the game could have been decided earlier if some more of the many chances had been converted. A last minute Na Fianna goal took the gloss off the scoreline.
Apart from the half back line, Izzie was her usual assured presence in goal and Ashling O`Leary mopped up any loose balls in defence. It was also good to see Aoife Murphy back from her Law exams and Emly Mc Mullen back after starring for Clontarf Hockey Club during the winter.
Under 16/17’s: Challenge match v Beann Eadair. 28/4/2019
This was a high scoring game with Sadhbh Murphy getting us off to a grand start with a point followed by a quick goal. These were followed by points in the first half by Reailtin, Lia, Ella Amelia Eve Caoimhe M not to mention three more goals one each from Lia Amelia and Caoimhe. This left the score at half time Scoil 4.6 to Beann Eadair’s 6 points.
Scoil supremacy continued in the second half where we scored 8 points and a late goal by Holly. Much to the amusement of the girls, the ball hit the bar time after time and in the case of one of these points it was definitely third time lucky. Beann Eadair didn’t hang their heads, but kept playing till the end and, in fact, scored two goals not long before the final whistle. We don’t have enough players to field an under seventeen team but the girls we have supplemented by the under 16 team are getting plenty of match experience. The challenge games orchestrated by Paul and Brian with O Tooles, Whitehall and Beann Eadair have proved to be enjoyable and certainly the girls turn up and are anxious to play together which is great for the Scoil spirit.
Final score Scoil 5.14 Beann Eadair 2.8
Next game Under 16/17 challenge game in Beann Eadair on Friday 10th meeting at 6.45pm
Under 9’s and 8’s: No match for under 8’s on the May bank holiday. Instead there was a challenge match between our under 8’s and under 9’s. It was a fun morning for all and the under 8’s certainly felt under pressure from the under 9’s and learnt some skills from their peers!
Celebrating Minor Heroes
Scoil will be celebrating the amazing achievements of the Minor teams of the 60’s where the club won five minor championship titles and an under 21 title in a seven year period!
Not many members of the Club will be aware of the Scoil glory days when the Club contested six Minor Championship Finals in eight years and won FIVE Dublin Minor Championship titles!
The Scoil also contested and won an U21 title in that period.
To revive and relive some of the memories, some of the stars of that era are having a reunion on Friday 7th June at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse.
So get out the photos, put on the memory caps and spread the word (50 years plus is a long time)
