Scoil Blitz
The Scoil blitz took place on Saturday in the club and it was a rousing success! Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered. The following is a report on the day from Ronan Murphy.
The weather didn’t look promising when Alan, Paul, Liam, Daragh and Ronan were moving goals into place and marking pitches last Saturday morning at 10am. Liam’s great flag touch had the place looking superb and with the grounds in pristine condition we were the envy of some visitors aligned to other local clubs.
Thankfully the sun came out just in time for the start of the blitz at 2pm. Over one hundred children took part in Scoil’s famous blitz. There was a stewards enquiry into why the customary T-shirt’s were replaced by bibs!! The bibs kindly sponsored by Iarnród Éireann can be recycled through the teams for use again, no waste at Scoil…
The barbecue was manned by a high energy squad led by Jackie Geraghty in the captains role but very well supported by Eszter (this lady is unbelievable with her work for Scoil), Audrey and Teresa who played the busy half forward roles ably supported by a number of our younger girls. Ella said she gave Jackie 8/10 for her efforts on the day. Thanks also to Niamh and Andrea for their work in the bar, Eve and her U16 mates for manning the face paining stand which was very popular.
Alfie arrived and started blasting out some popular tunes, thanks to Darren for his duets with Alfie and for the two lads in ensuring the crowd dispersed early.
The blitz games were split into three groups, nursery, Under 8/9/10 and Under 11/12. A number of our teenage players came down to referee and manage teams and they are a credit to the club, well done
Adam Wilson, Neil OFlynn and Cathal managed three of our U11/12 teams and offered some excellent advice to the kids. Barry arrived but just missed out on managing as JP had his eyes on the prize. Mark Candon did remind Jp that it was a fun blitz but you all know the story
Our Under 8/9/10 blitz was abandoned after the dublin fire brigade arrived and put on a great show and soaking for the kids and some of the adults!! Thanks to Neil McDermott for capturing this on video with over 4,000 views!!! Thanks for all the photos Neil
Mary from the Garda Dog unit brought down two dogs and they proved to be a big hit with our kids.
Andy Bunyan arrived down to stand between the sticks to see if any of our young juveniles could beat him from the penalty spot. The kids were delighted with the opportunity and a semi orderly Q formed. Fionn Daly impressively dispatched his three penos into the corners that any German international would be proud of.
Farrell hurls proved popular through the day and kindly donated a replica all Ireland medal to the club.
All in all a great day for the club, a nice crowd stayed for a UK derby match which failed to match the excitement of the all Ireland series but the halftime pizza made up for it.

Benno’s Book Launch
The club hosted the launch of Darren Benham’s first book ‘Stammer’ in the club last Wednesday evening. The event was extremely enjoyable and the numbers reached well over 150 in the clubhouse. This typifies the type of character Benno is, as he was surrounded by friends and family alike. Darren spoke to the audience about his inspiration for the book and to thank those who were there. We would like to thank Darren for allowing us to host his book launch in the club!
Jack Represents Dublin
Congratulations to juvenile player Jack Kennedy who lined out for the Dubs on Sunday afternoon in Carlow. We could get used to seeing you in those colours, Jack!
Mini Marathon
Congratulations to the members of the adult ladies team that took part in Sunday’s Mini Marathon, a tremendous feat!
Shane the Redeemer
Adult footballer and Hurler Shane Corry togging out in front of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. We’re not jealous at all, Shane!
Celebrating Minor Heroes
Scoil will be celebrating the amazing achievements of the Minor teams of the 60’s where the club won five minor championship titles and an under 21 title in a seven year period!
Not many members of the Club will be aware of the Scoil glory days when the Club contested six Minor Championship Finals in eight years and won FIVE Dublin Minor Championship titles!
The Scoil also contested and won an U21 title in that period.
To revive and relive some of the memories, some of the stars of that era are having a reunion on Friday 7th June at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse.
So get out the photos, put on the memory caps and spread the word (50 years plus is a long time)
Main contact points are: Robbie Kelleher(086 2583796), Barry Kenna (087 4196789), Bernie O Sullivan (086 0688101) and Gerry Rowley (087 6287395)
U12’s Roll On
The Under 12’s unbeaten streak in 2019 continues after an unbelievable win against Sylvester’s on Friday night. The following report is from the ever modest manager JP Courtney:
Sylvesters (3-5) v Scoil (5-11)
I have asked Scoil Board to order additional defibrillators as I certainly won’t make end of season at this rate!
If there was any doubt we were playing against a strong team, it was quickly realised as opposition scored some brilliant frees.
Half time couldn’t come soon enough but amazingly we came off all square 1-4 v 0-7, thanks in no small part to Luke in goal.
We took the time to regroup, calm down and gather ourselves (and that was just the mentors!)
Syls picked up the pace in the 2nd half and put our backs under immense pressure but Alex, Fahad, Diarmuid & Fionn held firm and were unlucky to be breached late on.
As is the norm with the lads, we just keep going!!! Wave after wave after wave of attack was too much for the opposition and thanks to some outstanding scores from the lads in particular Adam (4-4) & Conor with a sensational goal, we came out on top!
New lad Calum came on tonight and will definitely add to our strength and depth.
Well done to all the lads tonight – an absolute pleasure to watch (but not good for the heart at times)
Regards Jp /Liam / Ronan
