Scoil Stag Trip to Scotland
It’s not the Stags on Tour we normally think of. A lot more civilised and a whole lot more memorable, 150 juveniles and parents will descend first on Belfast, and then Scotland as they march the Scoil colours across the Irish Sea!
Full details:
The group will travel to Belfast where they will play a game against St Paul’s GAA, then take the ferry to Cairnryan and travel to Ayr in Scotland. After an overnight stay they will then travel to Glasgow to play Glasgow Gaels.
G4MO All Ireland Blitz
Our Gaelic for Mothers & Others team ‘Scoil Sirens’ take part in their second competitive blitz of the year this Saturday @12.30pm in Naomh Meanóg, and will be sporting their new jerseys – purchased with proceeds from The Beach Ball

A Final Note of Thank You
Liam Blood couldn’t leave his correspondence lie without a final thank you, after he received the elusive jersey of old at last weekend’s IHC semi-final which he travelled from Cavan to support.
The search Is over
After last weeks letter I thought that was the end of my story, but after the friendship and generosity shown to me at the refixed game in Mobhi Rd on Saturday I couldnt just leave it as it was. On Saturday I had only stepped out of my car had not even reached the pitch when I was approached by the coach of the team who out of the blue handed me another jersey this one with the v neck and collar also a number. I was so taken by surprise that I never got a word out and to my shame never found out the mans name or thanked him properly. So coach I am thanking you now and the gesture was deeply appreciated. Just after the game started Ramona approached and she also had a jersey for me My wife Bernadette was with me this time and between the introductions and then the conversation struck up between the two ladies I never really got to look closley at the jersey. It was only when we got home that night and were discussing the events of the day and compareing the jerseys that I realised that we had struck gold the jersey Ramona had given me was THE JERSEY. Old material full length sleeves a number and even the signs of battle a small tear at the collar. This jersey reeks of the blood sweat and tears that went into the wearing of it, it is also steeped in the history of the Scoil. I just couldnt resist putting it on with all present having a good laugh saying thats not going to fit you but believe it or not it has that very pliable material and did fit admittedly a little tightly especially down the arms but I felt enveloped in comfort. I was transported back in the mist of time, I was in my element in the comfort zone stepping over the white line already planning how I was going to face the throw in knowing if the ref threw it in where I could have a right hand swing then ok it was shoulder to shoulder with the enemy if it came the other side a lefthand swing then I was attacking the ball before it had really left the refs hand hoping to flick it up into my hand and drive it away. Either way I was at ease knowing the fourteen other lads had my back if needed. Ah well all daydreams come to an end and Im back in the kitchen but that jersey is still on happy days. This jersey is everything I could have asked for, the only problem I have now is wheather to frame it with the championship medal attached or leave it on a hanger where maybe I could slip it on every now and again Im opting towards the frame any suggestions welome. I will close with a hugh THANK YOU to Ramona and all the personal who helped in the SEARCH FOR THE JERSEY

Ladies Football
Scoil 1-15 Raheny 1-4
A convincing semi final win by the adult ladies team propels them into the Cup final against Foxrock Cabinteely.
With the ladies games now switching to Sundays, Raheny were the opposition in the Cup semi final. They had won the Junior B Championship against O’Dwyers the previous Sunday, so a tough game was expected.
The match began with Raheny winning the throw in and going on the get the first score of the tie. Scoil however, responded in great fashion, with high tempo moves and constant pressure on their opposition. 3 unanswered points really settled Scoil into the game, before a great run from midfield from Hannah Leahy, blew open the Raheny defence as she slipped through Aoife De Burca who was 1 on 1 with the keeper, who rifled home low into the bottom corner. Urged on by the lung bursting runs of Naoise Ni Bhroin and Ciara McComish, there was a plentiful supply to the forward line. The game was turning into the De Burca sister show, with Aoife netting 1-5 and Sinead 0-5, giving Scoil a 1-10 to 0-4 lead at the break.
The team maintained their dominance in the second half, but found scores harder to come by. Excellent defending from Molly Power, Nicole Rock and Katie Doolin, who was making her return to the team after a near 18 month hiatus, limited Raheny to just one score in the second half, a very dubious goal, that had hit off the crossbar, but the referee deemed to have hit the top of the net.
The date and venue for the final has yet to be confirmed. Many of the players made huge sacrifices to play in this game, which was the first ladies game to be played on a Sunday in Scoil in over 4 years. Including getting time off work, giving up school grinds, but special mention goes to Lucy Murphy who got a plane home from the most picturesque airport in Ireland (we’ll take your word Lucy) Carrickfinn, Donegal on the morning of the game. Once again a big thanks to all the Scoil support who came out in numbers to cheer on the girls, in what was a busy weekend for Scoil teams.

Scoil Minors (Isles of the Sea) lost their last hurling game in the championship group last Sunday morning against a strong Brigids side containing two of their Senior Panel. Under 15 girls
vs Clontarf 6/10/2017
How it all played out
As far as the girls were concerned this was like an All- Ireland. Games with our local opposition are always exciting and this was no different. We opened with a point from Caoimhe and then Clontarf started to show us how they could play. It was nip and tuck all the way and at half time we were leading by only one point 2.3 to 2.2. The second half was very exciting as we started to push ahead cheered on by very supportive parents. Clontarf never gave up and scored a lovely goal and a point but we werein the driving seat., The final score was 4.7 Scoil to 3.4 Clonarf.
Who were the star performers / scorers
There were lots of scores with Eve and Caoimhe leading the way. An excellent point from Ella showed she is back in form and Sadhbh Murphy got a beauty too. Our backs played their hearts out and it was overall a great and very determined team effort.
What’s up next
Our girls have qualified for the final of the championship to be held on the 21st details to follow. Keep the date free

Scoil under 14 girls
Div 5 championship semi final v Templeogue 8-10-2017
How it all played out
Flushed with success after their winning performance with the under 15’s on Friday night against Clontarf our girls were determined to show Templeogue it was no flash in the pan. A missed goal opportunity right at the beginning led to an opening point by Holly. From the on it was scores, and it has to be admitted some wides, all the way. By half time the girls were leading 4.5 to Templeogue’s 1.3. With some words of advice from captain Siobhan they went into the second half raring to go. Cheered on by their enthusiastic supporters they continued their scoring spree and despite five points by Templeogue they came out easy winners 7.11 to 1.9.
Who were the star performers / scorers
Isabelle played outfield this time and managed to get two successive goals. As usual Caoimhe was in scoring humour aided andabetted by Holly, Siofra M and Sadhbh Murphy. Lia made some fantastic saves and our backs defended valiantly while the whole team played their hearts out and supplied lots of ammunition for our scorers. Our thanks to Sorcha and Liabhan from the under twelves for their help. Maria and the other parents were so impressed by the girls hard work over the weekend, reaching two finals, that they brought the girls back to the club and treated them to pizza. Of course they first cheered on our ladies as they too made the final in their match against Raheny!
What’s up next
Whopee it’s a final against Thomas Davis on the 22nd of October details to follow. We hope for a huge crowd of supporters on the day.

U8 Hurling
Landmark for U8s against Fingallians
Our U8 hurlers continued their good form with impressive performances against Fingallians in Balheary.
This was a particularly pleasing as we had struggled against the same opposition earlier in the season and is further evidence of our improving skills and game awareness.
How it all played out
Saturday’s games were also landmark moments in our players’ fledgling careers as “air” hurling was played for the first time during the second halves of all matches.
Despite the increase in the tempo, we were highly competitive and more than held our own in these exchanges to the delight of the coaches. Those players who are practicing their lifting and striking skills at home are really beginning to stand out.
The disappointing trend of players opting out of away matches continued so all players who turned up got significant game time.
Who were the star performers / scorers
For the Blue team Tadhg made some super tackles and blocks to prevent his opponent from scoring. Emily was not afraid to get in close to tackle and, after winning the ball, made some excellent clearances on the ground and in the air.
For Amber team, Oisin played really well with some excellent tackling, blocking and long striking. Shay had another wonderful game, always getting to the ball first and finding a team mate with accurate passes.
For the Maroon, Cody had a superb game in goal, making a number of crucial saves and delivering long puc outs. Aibhilinn was excellent in all three games and did a number of jab lifts and strikes on the run.
A special mention also for Jake and Sean who both took knocks but bravely carried on.
What’s up next
We have a bye this week so will be training at 10:00.

Scoil Nursery
Scoil Academy (kids born in 2010 and 2011) travelled to Howth to play Beann Eadair and Naomh Barróg in both football and hurling last Saturday. This was second time we travelled to Howth to play these teams this year and it was a great opportunity to see how this group were progressing.
We divided in 2 teams and played games against both Beann Eadair and Naomh Barróg. After a slow start our teams began to show their range of skills as well as a great awareness to stay in theirpositions. This allowed some great scores to come, often involving 3 or 4 passes starting with our goalkeeper or back and working the ball up to the final scorer. All the training both at the club and at home is really paying off. We will play both these teams on the 21st of October and we look forward to more great displays. Thanks to all in Beann Eadair for a well organised event.
There was a great support provided by parents and family on the day and was much appreciated by the players and coaches. This is a great group of players and it is great to see more parents stepping up to look after them as they move into under 8 league football next year. Wednesday night training continues for kids born 2010 and 2011 in the club from 7pm to 8pm and will continue until the mid term break. This is in addition to the usual Saturday morning training at 10am.
There was also a great turnout to Scoil Nursery last Saturday. It was great to see parents joining in with training last Saturday and everyone is free to help out anytime. Congrats to our players of the week. As always new players are welcome to join in and have fun. Nursery continues as usual for everyone this Saturday morning at 10am.
