Our branding vision
“Did Raheny or Clontarf join forces with Scoil? How come I see blue, amber & maroon tops all over Dublin? What’s with the stag invasion? Surely the Club has trebled in size!”
These are the things people will say when we insist our unique and proud brand on our locality. We’ve had phenomenal response to the recent promotion, with over 300 brand new Scoil-branded garments ordered.
And rest assured this is just the beginning. This first phase was to offer a premium product at a premium price. We will now explore ways to emulate this design with more cost-effective garments for our younger members whose parents may be understandably concerned at looming growth spurts.
We thank you all for investing your hard-earned money in our vision. In OUR vision. Envisage with us a Scoil Uí Chonaill awash with consistent, visually striking and aesthetically pleasing gear and merchandise that speaks to everything that we are. That speaks volumes to the idea that we are one club, one crest, one unique identity. A Club quietly promoting itself wherever its members go.
So, wear your new gear proudly, help us to own the powerful emblem of the mighty Stag and let’s make every other GAA club in the city envious of our unique colours.
The infamous Conor McGregor said: “We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over.”
In Scoil we say:
“We may not have a parish, but you can be sure we’ll still flourish.
We’re not here for the damn of it, we’re here to Scoil brand it!”

Meet Colm Phelan
How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
3 years
Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
I have heard the word Grumps before but it’s usually only Colm
Where do you hail from?
I have lived my life in Santry and remained there when I got married
How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
Well… I was involved in my earlier days with St Brigids, my Father was Chairman there a few times, but you always gets sucked into the GAA where the opportunity arises. My wife is friends with Mick O Connell’ wife and we were talking about our kids involvement with the GAA and they both agreed it would be a great idea to change clubs and before I knew it I was down in Clontarf 3-4 days a week. – Thanks to Mick’s wife Ger!
Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
It’s a privilege to train the current U13 team, to see them transition over the last few years they have given myself, Cathal and Paul great pride and satisfaction.
What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
Probably trying to kick a football at training, slipping and breaking my wrist, Jim Gavin eat your heart out.

Nearly winning the league last year with U12 only to be pipped by the post by Vinnies

What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
I Keep Marine Fish and I play golf.
If you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
An All-weather Pitch with the crest in the middle
What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’?
The number of unused goals in the corner of the pitch, collectables at this stage.
If you close your eyes and envisage Scoil in 10 years, what do you see?
An All-weather pitch, a re-vamped clubhouse and lots and lots of juvenile players.
Finally, if you had to describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why?
Giraffe because there is no one taller than me

Ladies Football
Scoil 1-14 Raheny 7-9
A bitterly disappointing defeat consigns adult ladies team to a league play-off.
A win or draw would have been sufficient to secure the league title for the Scoil ladies on Wednesday night, and things were going to plan with a lead of 1-5 to 0-2 after 20 minutes had Scoil in the driver’s seat.
However Raheny always looked dangerous on the break and gradually reduced the deficit. Scoil still led by a point with 10 minutes played of the second half when Raheny were awarded a penalty. The kick was converted and in the very next play would concede another goal in quick succession which was a hard blow to take after an impressive first half performance. Scoil yet again kicked on and went down the other end and kicked points, with the ever accurate Sinead De Burca kicking frees to keep Scoil in touching distance.
A bizarre final 10 minutes saw Raheny score 4 quick goals, meaning all of Raheny’s last 6 scores were goals. While Raheny were probably the better team on the night the scoreline didn’t give a true reflection of the effort and competitiveness of the game.
Alas it means Scoil will up their efforts on and off the pitch in preperation for the League play off with a date yet to be determined. Starting with the All Ireland 7s competition on 23rd September in Naomh Mearnog, we have been lucky enough to be chosen to play in the prestigious competition with more info to follow.
Finally we would just like to thank all who came out to support us for the game, it was great to see so many from the Men’s, Juvenile’s, Parent’s and our wonderful Mothers and Others team, despite the result it no doubt gave the girls a new found pride in the Scoil jersey.

Minor Boys
Scoil Minors (Isles of the Sea) 2-12 vs Erins Isle 3-14 on 10.09.17 at Finglas
How it all played out
First hurling championship game for the minors this year. Two teams were well matched. With Scoil having led for most of the first half, a goal from Erins Isle just before half time left them a point ahead going into the break.
A goal from Seamus McCann early in the second half was answered by a goal the other end shortly after. For most of the second half, there was only a point or two between the teams but Erins Isle pulled away towards the end of the game to win by 5 points – 3-14 to 2-12.
Many thanks to all the supporters on the sideline.
Who were the star performers / scorers
The two highlights of the game were the magnificent goals scored by Seamus McCann and Karl Morgan.
Scorers: Daragh Levins 0-8 (8f); Seamus McCann 1-1; Karl Morgan 1-0; David Kennedy, Des Duggan, Eoghan McKay 0-1 each.
What’s up next
Second football championship match on Sunday 17th September home to St. Annes. Throw in 10.30am. Venue tbc.

SCOIL U10’S Footballers
Away vs Binn Eadair Sat 9/09/17
How it all played Out;
Team Jp Courtney
All aboard the U10s Train!! – Definitely game of two halves this morning – Playing into the wind first half, they managed to keep opposition (which included x3 Scoil players – Alex Cahill / Fahad/ Conor) to No Score. Unfortunately we didn’t score either!
Thankfully 2nd half, the kids actually started to play and were worth their win and clean sheet in the end also.
Team Liam Ryan
It’s always difficult to play against the wind which is why playing as a team is so important. The lads played some great hurling, spraying the ball around and working it in close to score.
Who were the star performers / scorers;
Team JP
ADDI & CALVIN stepped it up today – Scoring and defending like Lions. Huge thank you to Scoil kids for agreeing to play for Binn Eadair also.
Team Liam
Score of the first half came from Alex Courtney with a well worked team goal with Alex scoring off his left side, into the top corner. Fionn was immense in midfield today with some great individual scores. Conaill worked relentlessly and didn’t give the opposition any opportunity to create a score.

Under 9 Boys
SUC Under 9 Boys v Naomh Fionnbarra
How it all played out
The boys played their first hurling game of the year at home on Saturday and put in a great performance. We did not enter a team in the first half of the season so it was great to see the boys being able to field a team and being competitive. Whilst we lost the game we did very well for our first outing after a long summer break.
Who were the star performers / scorers
It was an all around good team performance and team spirit was very much in evidence despite the long summer holidays. Up front Senan bagged a couple of goals and was ably supported by Jake. Conor Kelly went in goal injured in the second half and got great distance with his wind assisted puck outs. The midfielders showed some good skills in winning balls and hassling the opposition. A good team performance overall.
What’s up next
It is planned to have a good training session on Saturday to brush off the summer rustiness rather than play a football game.

U8s scale new heights on Hill of Howth
The U8*s started the second half of the season on a high by giving one of our best ever performances at the hurling blitz in Howth.
How it all played out
Up against the might of Beann Eadair and Trinity Gaels, all our teams were highly competitive in all games. It was great to see the skills which were practiced over the Summer months being brought into the matches.
Most of our players can now strike on both sides and correctly execute the frontal block (also known as ‘build a wall’). Any parent who feels that their child needs help to master the basics should speak to the coaches who will be happy to recommend drills that the players can do at home. To make sure that we are ready for next season, we will be challenging our players by putting focus on “air hurling” in the coming months.
Who were the star performers / scorers
At Saturday’s blitz, Conall defended brilliantly for the Amber team and set up many attacks by striking the ball long using both sides. Orla showed that she has been practicing at home and was excellent at clashing and frontal blocks. Jake had another super game and pulled on the moving ball quite brilliantly on a number of occasions as well as scoring an excellent goal.
For the maroon team, Emily worked hard and showed great determination and tackling skills throughout. Danny had a powerful game, winning great ball and looking up to find a team mate before delivering long accurate passes.
For the Blues, Oisin set the standards early on in midfield getting up and down the pitch to be in the right place at the right time. His ball striking has come on leaps and bounds and he won lots of territory for the team. Sean too made a big impact scoring a couple of great goals from distance, while Milly made some vital interventions, getting big strikes away in tight spaces.
What’s up next
Football next Saturday, away to St Maurs, Rush @10 a.m.
