The official Scoil branded gear going forward

We thank everyone for their patience, and are proud to share what will be the official Scoil Uí Chonaill gear going forward, as voted for by our Stag’s Voice readers 6 weeks ago.

This high quality, sleekly designed clothing line represents all three of Scoil’s unique colours of Royal Blue, Amber & Maroon. Each is embroidered with our Club crest and personalised with initials if desired. The tops will also feature a small Dublin Port embroidery as our main Club sponsor.

**For now, we are opening a limited window of sale (until Sept 12th) so please ACT NOW**

You can purchase the new top and/or bottoms here, where you can also find more information.

Please note that this move is intended so that, for the first time in our 67 year history, all of our members – young or old, playing or supporting – can be seen in matching Club gear. All gear enquiries should be directed to the Club PRO for now. Full branding guidelines to follow.

Meet another proponent for Stag Bar life – the most improved player with the most infectious laugh…Emma McGowan!

How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
I started playing with Scoil 12 years ago.

Where do you hail from?
I’m from Griffith Avenue.

How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
Mick and Ger O’Connell introduced me and my sister to the club, and I joined their under 11 team after much persuasion.

Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
I’ve played from under 11’s to under 16’s, and then moved on to the Ladies section. In TY I started helping with the nursery on a Saturday morning. I did that for nearly 3 years but had to stop when I was doing my leaving cert.

What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
In my first year with the Ladies B team I won “most improved player of the year”, which was a huge boost to my confidence as it there was a big jump in standard. That was a big personal achievement for me.

What is your profession / field of study / passion?
I am studying Sports Science and Health in DCU, about to go into my final year.

What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
Spending time with Alannah Kane.

If you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
If could make one addition to Scoil it would be to have a bigger bar

What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’?
The very distinctive club colours!

If you close your eyes and envisage Scoil in 10 years, what do you see?
In 10 years time, hopefully Scoil will have a ladies team in division 1 or 2, and a strong ladies section with teams entered at all age groups.

Finally, if you had to describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why?
If I was an animal I’d probably be a hyena cause I have a very loud, distinctive laugh.

Scoil U10 Hurlers

vs Finbarrs on Sat 26/08/17 at Stag Park

How it all played out

First game back after summer but thankfully those kids who attended summer training / camps made the difference in this tightly contested match. Usual suspects picked up where they left off before the break.

Poor Alex Courtney had to come off due to bad knock on the ankle – thankfully he’s ok(ish).

Delighted for all our lads, as they had to put up with some uncalled for behaviour from the side lines.

Nothing softens the cough of a hissing crowd like a well taken point/win

Who were the star performers / scorers

Fionn, Alan, Adam, Conall & Conor managed to get on the scoresheet but pick of the scores coming from the one two between “the Fresh Prince” of Clontarf Charlie B & Conor.

u8 Scoil Uí Chonaill

vs St Vincents on Saturday 26 August at Clontarf Road

How it all played out

While over a dozen of the crew were away this weekend, those available gave a great account of themselves with most of the 6 games being very tight affairs. On a very warm morning, on a freshly mown pitch, of particular note was some great striking from the ground. This together with some heroic individual performances helped Scoil stay very competitive. In attack, Vincent’s showed more of a cutting edge, with some very clever combinations. Passing the ball into the box from wide areas for onrushing attackers was clearly a ploy they had practised. Overall it was very satisfying to see the character shown by Scoil and the striking improvement made by many of the Scoil players who had been working on this over the summer.

Who were the star performers / scorers

For the Blues, Aibhilinn was complimented by the Vincents coaches having shown some deft touches throughout and having made 1 wonderous double save during her stint in goals (genuinely had to be seen to be believed – Anthony Nash wouldn’t have done better!).  Rory was a dynamo and worked tirelessly, while Rian scored a tremendous goal from near halfway. For the Ambers, Conall was heroic  in defence, making numerous vital interventions and setting up attacks. Priya, at the other end, contributed to some great attacking moments having been fed by some superb long passes from Tadhg and Abigail. Finally, the Maroons typified the hard working ethic in the squad. Jake and Aoife put in some strong tackles with Orson and Darragh keeping Vincent’s forward out. The highlight was the one two between Aoibheann and Orla, with Orla scoring an excellent goal from distance. Well done to everyone.

What’s up next

It’s the big ball next Saturday, with St Brigids at home @10 a.m.. Football training this Wednesday too.
