Family Picnic: July 1st
Save the Date – Family Picnic, Saturday 1st July
Only a couple of weeks of official matches left for juveniles (before the intensive summer training period!). To celebrate the school holidays and the commitment of both the kids and parents during the first half of the year, there will be a midyear family picnic evening for all juvenile teams (boys and girls) and their parents on Saturday July 1st. There will be sporting entertainment for the kids, a chance for parents to get together over a couple of drinks and it will coincide with a Senior match Vs Erin’s Isle.
Mark it down in your calendars for now. More details to follow…

Pitch Side Advertising
Pitch side advertising is a great opportunity for organisations to raise their profile in the community & in the club, in addition to providing the club with much needed funds. The costs are very reasonable and work out at about 8 EUR per week for a 3 year term.
If you know of a company that might be interested in sponsoring a pitch side banner in Scoil Uí Chonaill grounds Please contact Aidan Mulvey @ 086-1450407 or Killian O’Connell @ 087-2072866 for further information or with potential opportunities.
Meet John Kelly
How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
I have been involved for 4 years.
Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
I normally respond well to Your Serene Highness.
Where do you hail from?
My home club is Ballygar, Co Galway, a club which enjoys a certain notoriety in GAA chat rooms.
How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
I stood still for too long during my first morning at the nursery and, while my back was turned, Brian Fahy roped me in.
Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
Editor’s note: John very modestly left this question blank. Currently one of the u8s coaches and key driver of all things juvenile Hurling, John also galvanised a lot of energy around the Strictly Scoil effort last year; always ensuring every parent was kept up-to-date with the latest events.
What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
An eye catching range of stylish maroon gear.
What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
I would like to think that my greatest achievements lie ahead. That said, coming second in the púc fada would have been a considerable achievement (had it not been tarnished by Liam Ryan coming first).
What is your profession / field of study / passion?
I work in healthcare Infomatics for a US company (and I have no idea what it means either).
What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
I have 4 small kids ….
If you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
Looking with envy at the roster of coaches other teams have, I would love to see more parents getting involved with juvenile teams. Also, it would be great to see more veterans following the example of the great Richie Egan and helping out with underage teams.
What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’?
The members are a pretty quirky bunch! I have been involved, sometimes legally, with several clubs. I have never encountered such a warm and friendly atmosphere anywhere else.
If you close your eyes and envisage Scoil in 10 years, what do you see?
Regularly challenging for honours in all competitions. Having two daughters, I would love to see Scoil become a force in camogie again.
Finally, if you had to describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why?
Some of the U8s think that I’m a cantankerous old goat. I have no idea why.

Adult Football
The Senior Footballers had two more wins this week as they beat St Pat’s (D) 3-11 to 0-11 and in their St Anne’s 0-10 to -08 on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively, in AFL2.
AFL11
Erin Go Brath 0-14 Scoil 3-9
Great result beating the league leaders
Two converted penalties from Conor Ennis and some great football from Sam Callan(Minor) debutant Tierghnan from Clare (joined to play Hurling) and Ruari Egan.
The opposition were clearly upset at losing and questioned the eligibility of five of our team all of whom were fully compliant and legal to play.
Scoil 5-5 Good Counsel 1-13
The game was clearly won by the youth factor
Starting with Eoghan Mc Kay and Conor Ennis the game was in the balance at half time but the introduction of Aaron Linane,David Kennedy and Donal Mc Kay produced three goals in seven minute spell to secure victory. Special mention to Mark Cunningham who travelled back from Galway to play.

Ladies Football
Scoil 2-23 Kilmacud Crokes 0-5
Sharp shooting sees the ladies team go 5 wins from 5 in the league.
In their only defeat in the season to Kilmacud previously, the opposition goalkeeper made a number of excellent saves. Learning from this points were the order of the day and the team delivered with aplomb.
With a delayed throw in the girls were chomping at the bit to get started, and it showed by scoring the first 7 points of the game. Then some quick thinking by Emily McMullen put Sinead De Burca in the clear and she gave the keeper no chance with a finish into the top corner of the net. Another 5 unanswered points were followed by a fine solo goal from Jane Brooder, who rounded the keeper to give Scoil a lead of 2-14 to 0-2 at halftime.
The second half was more evenly contested, but some tenacious defending from Nicole Rock, Kathy Delaney and fearless Orlaith Egan prevented any chance of a Kilmacud comeback. The game was capped off by two Sinead De Burca frees from 40 meters out to put an exclamation mark on her personal tally of 1-8 for the day.
Next up is Parnells away in the Cup on Wednesday 21/06 at 7.30pm.

U13 Hurling
Scoil 2-5 Kilmacud Crokes 2-4
Scoil played away in Deer Park Stillorgan Tuesday evening. It was a fantastic game of hurling. Scoil led by 1:3 to zero in the first half, Crokes came back into the game in the second half but Scoil showed a huge amount of intensity and belief to win in the end by one point. It was a great quality game with Colm Kennedy giving strong encouragement from the side line. Well done to all.
There was no game last weekend

U11 Football
Man O War 5-8 Scoil 2-3
Scoil U11s suffered their 1st defeat this season in a hot/tough fixture vs Man O War.
A very difficult 1st half saw the lads leak a number of goals & points on a beautiful sunny day out in Man O War. After we regrouped at half time we put on a much better performance in the 2nd half and were evenly matched vs the opposition.
The lads did themselves proud in the 2nd half and never gave up until the final whistle which was great to see and they’ll be focused as ever ahead of our final game vs Garristown this Saturday where we’ll hopefully have a full team on display.

U10 Football
U10 Footballers entertained Finbarrs this morning in a rough ‘n tumble game which they won out in the end
Due to Finbarr’s limited numbers, we agreed to play x1 game (x11 aside). This caused some headache trying to manage all our Scoil players (19) with subs rolling on and off. Despite the changes, the kids got stuck in, with some super challenges which were equally matched by opposition. Scores came from all positions today with Alex / Adam/ Addi / Alan /Luke/Conal to name but a few!
We even managed to give a new kid a run out (Cornel from Romania) – well done!
Calvin was superb in defence and cleared plenty of balls which had goals written all over them. The heat and tiredness was beginning to show as the game came to a close with a few choice words from one of Finbarr kids to one of ours, resulting in things heating up to boiling point! Thankfully things calmed down, so both teams could head off to enjoy weekend sun!

U8 Football Blitz
Saturday was a perfect morning for the under 8 blitz, at which we welcomed Naomh Barróg and Vincent’s.
There was great support on the day from parents who helped co-ordinate the fixtures and pitches as well as the medal ceremony at the end. Most appreciated by the kids were the parents who ran for water to keep the kids hydrated!
Scoil were missing a couple of influential players, but those that made it put in plucky performances in all four of their matches. Naomh Barróg were strong in possession and had a number of players that could take scores from huge distances. Vincent’s meanwhile were fast both in athleticism and the way they moved the ball.
In a quirk of the fixture machine, 2 of the 3 Scoil teams played each other in the last game of the day and this produced great entertainment to finish.
Despite a tough day on the pitch, sunshine, medals, Capri Sun and crisps always help the mood. The blitz was a great success and both visiting teams were highly complementary of the organisation and community spirit that they encountered at Scoil.
Next week we play Naomh Barróg again at home meeting @ 9.30 a.m..
