Pitch side advertising

Pitch side advertising is a great opportunity for organisations to raise their profile in the community & in the club, in addition to providing the club with much needed funds. The costs are very reasonable and work out at about 8 EUR per week for a 3 year term.

If you know of a company that might be interested in sponsoring a pitch side banner in Scoil Uí Chonaill grounds Please contact Aidan Mulvey @ 086-1450407 or Killian O’Connell @ 087-2072866 for further information or with potential opportunities.

Senior Footballer & Camogie Coach; meet the man who has made a big impact in a short time…Aidan Mulligan!

How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
About 4/5 years but feels like forever ….

Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
There are many names I’m sure that the kids would call me when I’m not listening but generally I’ve been known as Chubby / Aido / Mullers or just Aidan since I came to Scoil.

Where do you hail from?
From Chapelizod in Dublin; same village as the O’Connell Brothers.

How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
Scoil Neasain link when my daughters wanted to join their class mates and play football.

Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
I was roped into coaching and helping the current u11 boys as they were coming out of nursery and then have since fallen out of retirement to play for the 3rd team and somehow ended up covering for Andy as Sub Senior football goalkeeper.

What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
Probably never leaving the place at this stage between coaching and playing and have been known to have an occasional drink in the bar.

What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
Getting JP Courtney out of the bar before 5am so we could lock up and also playing senior football again after my debut for plunketts in senior football 25 years prior.

What is your profession / field of study / passion?
Work in Outsourcing for Northern Trust

What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
Anything sports related. Love travelling to Ryder Cups and Ireland soccer away games

If you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
Get teams out at every age groups with proper space / facilities for the teams to train on and develop their skills so we can get more onto county set ups to better the club long term.

What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’?
The welcoming nature of the club and country feel about the place that helps blends all the different backgrounds that make up Scoil Uí Chonaill.

If you close your eyes and envisage Scoil in 10 years, what do you see?
The ladies section pushing towards a senior 1 / 2 division and juvenile section thriving for boys and girls.

Finally, if you had to describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why?
A mouse as I’m shy and quiet.

Ladies Football

Scoil 3-12 Na Fianna 1-12

A nerve wracking win for the ladies as they secured a spot in the semi final of the Junior B Championship with a game to spare. Na Fianna, who are in a division above Scoil, started strong and completely dominated the opening proceedings. They could have been well clear on the score board after 20 minutes. However, 3 quick fire goals from Sophie Gibney, Alannah Kane and Anna Power settle into the game and helped Scoil into a 3-9 to 1-7 halftime lead.

Na Fianna started the second half in similar fashion to the first and again were completely on top. The held Scoil scoreless for 20 minutes of the second half, as well as having numerous chances down the other end. The Scoil girls had to dig deep if they were to get anything out of the tie, which they did, producing their best football of the game with 10 minutes left on the clock. Three unanswered points, including a fine solo effort from Orlaith Egan ensured a 6 point win, which was far less comfortable than the scoreline suggests. The final game in the group stage is against Raheny in July to determine who will top the group and have home advantage in the semi final.

Best of luck to adult players Naoise Ni Bhroin and Ciara McComish starting their leaving certs today from all the players and management.

Next up is Kilmacud Crokes at home on Wednesday June 14th.

U12 Thunders Hurling

Scoil 1-6 Faughs 5-7

Scoil came out the wrong side of an epic battle last Wednesday night against a very skilful Faughs side.

During the first half the Scoil backs were under unrelenting pressure with Oisin Benham and Sean Morgan in particular performing heroics.

As ever Jack Kennedy was a constant threat and his accuracy fromplaced balls and sidelines kept Scoil in with a shout at half time.

The second half saw Scoil facing a slight hill and breeze.  Faughs got a couple of quick goals in succession but Scoil refused to lie down and were unlikely not to have scored at least three goals from the constant pressure exerted.  Luke in particular was winning dirty ball in the forwards and making himself a constant threat.  Eoghan Taylor covered a huge amount of ground and Rory Geoghegan put himself about, preventing the Faughs defence from clearing the ball easily.

It was a match that the mentors can take the positives from, the Scoil standard of hurling is improving all the time and playing quality opposition like Faughs will only bring the lads that much further on.
