Great activity in the Clubhouse on Friday and Saturday night as members enjoyed two social events!

Annual General Meeting – 24 November 2016

The 2016 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in the clubhouse on Thursday 24 November at 8.30pm.  All adult members are encouraged to attend.

The meeting will review the activity of the past 12 months both on and off the field as well as the Club finances.  There will also be election of members to the incoming Executive Committee.   The contact details for the current Executive members are available here in case you have an interest in stepping up and getting more involved..

Annual St Vincent de Paul Fundraiser

We’re hosting our annual ‘Sausage Sizzzzle’ and Coffee morning in the Club on Saturday 26 November. The sausages, onions and buns are all on order with fresh coffee / tea available upstairs in the Clubhouse.  All proceeds raised are donated to the local conference of St. Vincent de Paul. The generosity of Scoil members and friends is always wonderful and much appreciated.  If you would like to help in any way please contact the undersigned.

Juveniles

Training is continuing for a few more weeks so our youngest members keep active and get moving!

Get measured for the right sized hurley on Sat 26 November

Farrell’s hurleys will be in the club on Saturday morning from 10:00 to measure players for the right sized hurley.

Using the correct length hurley results in better touch and control, shorter, quicker striking with less chance of being hooked/blocked.

It is natural that children (if left to their own devices), will pick a longer hurley – the perception being that “the longer the hurley the longer the puck”. In fact the opposite is true (a hurley that is too long inhibits the striking action).   So we encourage the nursery and all young players to get professionally measured for the correct length hurley.

Nursery Table Quiz

There was great craic in the Clubhouse on Friday night at the Nursery Table Quiz. With spot prizes for good answers and quality heckling from the attendees, there was lots to play for on the night. The final round gave teams the chance to win bonus points for singing which was a great finale to the Quiz.  Well done to MC Richie Egan for managing the audience so well and ‘Question Setter’ John Kelly for taking the heckling in great spirit. (Never knew there were so many Galway related questions!)

Well done to all the organisers including Sandra, Aidan, Alan, Cormac and John for all their great work. The technology was put to great use with the scores displayed via laptop – very hi tech! Special mention for Sean Leahy and Hilton Meats for sponsoring the winners prizes of fabulous hampers. Thanks to all the participants for supporting the Nursery and we’re looking forward to the next event already!

Gaelic for Mothers & Others (GFMO)

The Ladies continue with their Fun, Fitness & Craic in the Club every Wednesdays between 7pm-8pm. Lots of activity and fun in these sessions and you can contact Mairead at 086 2675392 for more information.

OCS Primary – the Cube

Well done to Joanne Courtney and Under 11 mentor Richie Egan who took part in the Cube last Thursday night.

Championship Anniversary – Reunion Night

Another great night in the Clubhouse as our Dublin Senior Football Club Championship winning team from 1983/1986 got together with the current Senior Football panel on Saturday evening to celebrate the anniversary of our Double wins.  There was lots of chat among the current and former players, partners and supporters along with words from Pat Mc Veigh, former Chairman, Manager & Player and Declan O’Sullivan, current Team manager, to mark the occasion.

It was great to have Deirdre and Louise Hempenstall in the Clubhouse too for the event with lots of stories and memories about the late Tony ‘Scout’ Hempenstall, a great Scoil Clubman. Brilliant to see Peter Morley in the Club enjoying the craic and making a great recovery.  You can see some photos of the event here.

Well done to Gerry Rowley for organising the event – Scoil Abú!

‘Mentors & Helpers’ night (Christmas Jumpers welcome!)

Keep Sat 3 December free for our annual ‘Mentors & Helpers night in the Clubhouse.  Everyone who has helped out in the Club from organising events, managing/training teams, cleaning the Clubhouse, working in the Bar etc. etc. etc. is welcome!

Santa Claus is coming to Scoil!!!

Confirmation that our very special Santa will be in the Clubhouse on Saturday 10 December.  Confirmation of arrival / departure times will be available shortly and more details will be circulated soon.  All members and friends are welcome to attend on what is always a great evening.

End of Season Party – Saturday 28 January 2017
The Club’s End of Season Party will take place on the last Saturday in January.  Clontarf Castle is the venue on Saturday 28 January 2017.  Ticket prices are again being held at €30 and like last year we are holding the party in the Great Hall.  It promises to be a great night as we celebrate all our achievements of 2016 and as we get ready to commence the 2017 season.

Tickets can now be booked by contacting Declan Hoban (087-6539943), Joan Cushen (087-2222650), Ronan Murphy (087-9295105) or Tiarnan Crowe (087-6492316).
