Coffee morning & Bake Sale for Ukraine – Huge Thank You

Our Gaelic4Mothers & Others Team arranged a coffee morning & bake sale for the Ukraine appeal in club house on Saturday, 07 May and what a wonderful morning it was.

The sun made an appearance on the day and the support from all club members was seen with many many donations on the morning. A whopping €975.00 was raise on the day.

A huge thank you to everyone that supported this event – from all the bakers and donation to all the buyers. We couldnt have done it without each and everyone of you.

A Huge Thank you to everyone that supported on the day.

Ladies Teams – News

The adult ladies A team winning run came to a halt last week when they lost away to Ballyboden by 5 points. Prior to the game, they had 3 comprehensive wins in succession. The teams main focus this year will be on the championship which commences in August.

The good news is that Dublin panellist, Hannah Leahy, who seemed to have sustained a season ending injury, is back training with Dublin and hopefully will be available to play for the club in the championship.

The adult ladies teams are holding a table quiz in the clubhouse on Friday 27th May.

All support will be welcome

Our Ladies B Team were in action during the week in the league game against St Brendan’s.

They were very unfortunate to lose an exciting game by a point 1-14 to 4-6. In spite of the narrow defeat and receiving a drenching from the rain, the girls spirits were high.

Thank you to Daria Chapman

A huge thank you to Daria Chapman for her commitment to our Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy.

Over the past two years Daria has been the driving force in building our Saturday morning fun . Even through the pandemic, she ensured that people kept in contact with the club. She is a true leader and we owe her a huge debt of gratitude.

Thank you again Daria.

Darkness into Light 2022

A big thank you to the Scoil ladies for volunteering their time for Darkness into Light.

The Gardai who policed the event estimated a turnout of approximately 5,000 people, so their presence stewarding on the route was crucial to things running smoothly. There were no reports of trips, slips or falls and the Gardaí had no concerns regarding health and safety.

As it stands, Clontarf as a venue has raised €90,000 approximately for Pieta and it couldn’t have been done it without everybody’s help. The donations and registration fees for the event will allow Pieta to continue to support people and communities in crisis by providing freely accessible, professional services to all.

Well done to everyone that volunteered and to everyone that took part in Darkness into Light.

OCS Summer Event – Reunion

The OCS PPU embarks on a new adventure…

We will be hosting a Summer Reunion Event in the school grounds on Friday May 27th from 6pm.

Gaelic4Mothers and Others – back in action

When our Gaelic4Mothers and Others team are not our supporting their children or arranging a Coffee Morning & Bake Sale, they like to play a match!

On the 08 May, Scoil Sirens travelled to Inisfails on a sunny afternoon for our second match of 2022.

The ladies in stripes plated a blinder with goals and points galore against a very strong opposition. We played on the biggest pitch we have ever played on and for the longest time to date.

Our new recruits had their first match in Scoil Colours – Caoimhe, Gina, Emma and Laura. We played so well as a team and kept the gaaa4mas ethos alive.

It was Laura’s birthday we even managed squeezed in a caca milis to mark the occasion!!

Thanks so much to our fabulous coaches Sinead and Nicole. You both make the experience so much fun…

If you are interested in joining our Gaelic4Mothers & Others team, training is on Tuesday evening in the club at 7.30pm.

Clontarf Clubs Together

As part of Clontarf Clubs Coming Together for Ukraine, on Friday, 06 May we hosted Rounders in the club grounds.

There were many non club members that showed up on the evening and got a taste for what Rounders is all about under the watchful eyes of Aidan Curtin and Alan Darcy.

Rounders takes place every Friday evening at 7pm in the club. If you would like more information Contact Aidan Curtain at aidancurtin@gmail.com or Alan Darcy 087 278 6361

U15 Boys are Féile na nGael Hurling Champs

Fresh from football Féile win in Parnell park, the lads were back in Féile final, this time in hurling against Kilmacud Crokes B.

The team met early in the club and travelled out to UCD on a private coach.

The lads started the game strongly and some well worked scores gave the team an early lead. With conditions not ideal and a tight pitch, it turned into a low scoring game.

Alex Courtney was excellent throughout in goal while Luke Murphy gave a dominant display in the full back line. Rafa and Nathan kept there men in check while Oran Rowley was solid as ever at center back with Conal McCartaigh and Diarmuid Murphy putting in big shifts.

Tiernan Browne hit 2-4 in a very impressive performance with his midfield partner, Fionn Daly working hard throughout the game.

Up front, Niall McCartaigh scored a cracking goal and worked hard tirelessly while Fahad Omar scored 1-1 and Alan Murphy 0-1 to see off Kilmacud. Conor Maher and Liam Carr worked tirelessly for every ball. James Dee and Adam Ayadi showed well for the ball.

Overall a great team performance by the lads with a very lively coach trip back to the club for some pizza and refreshments!

Team News

Under 10s Boys Team

The U10s boys are continuing to play Go Games in both hurling and football.

They recently took on Naomh Barrog and St Margarets at home. All games were very competitive against some tough opposition, but the boys showed great team spirit and the skills on display improved with each game. The team is improving very well, and the team spirit and fun they all have as a group is very evident (as seen above).

Coach Shane (pictured above) giving a post match chat with the boys (some younger siblings wanted to get in on the chat too). They take on Craobh Chiaráin away this coming weekend in hurling.

New Members always welcomed. Contact Ruairí at 086 771 2848

U10 Mentors – Shane, Will & Ruairi

Under 8s Girls Team

On Sunday, 15 May, our U8 Girls had their first home match against St Maurs.

The girls played really well and demonstrated great skills on the day. The improvement week on week is very evident when playing games.

Great fun was had by both teams on a gorgeous sunny morning.

Well done to all the girls

Camogie News

After two years of Covid disruption, it was great to have the Camogie Féile competition back again for 2022. Scoil and eight other teams headed to Thomas Davis in what turned out to be a highly contested division. Scoil were up against Crumlin, St Annes and St Marks on one side of the draw, which turned out to be very much the tougher side.

Our first game was against St Annes. Scoil played a brilliant game and were unlucky to loose out by a point late on. Sadhbh Ní Mhóráin almost won the game for Scoil at the death with a fine shot that had the keeper beaten but hit the base of the upright, much to the relief of the St Annes team. St Annes would go on to win the division final.

Scoil won the second match against St Marks with a handsome score line, which included some fine scores from Catarina, Sophie and number of other Scoil players. It all came down to the final match against Crumlin but unfortunately Scoil were beaten by two points in a very competitive game.

Overall the girls played brilliantly, particularly with a very short lead into the competition. The coaches and players really enjoyed the week and the girls represented the club with great pride and skill.

The club is aiming to return to adult camogie in a few years and that goal looks achievable with this fantastic group of players.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to getting the team on the field at short notice including Cormac Moran, Sinead McDonnell, Mairead O’Sullivan, John Kelly, Sean Leahy and Aidan Curtin. Great club effort from all.

Well done to all the players and mentors.

Scoil U14 Camogie

Last week the U14 Girls had a top of the table clash with Ballyboden B and came out on top after a very competitive match on pitch 22.

The girls lost to the same team in the U13 Championship semi-final last year, so the win was a great return for the girl’s efforts and a good measure of their progress this year.

There was some great skills, effort and determination on display across the team.

Special mention for team captain Tayia McCann who scored two excellent goals in the second half to seal the win. Well done girls and keep up the good work.

Well done to all the girls on all our Camogie Teams.

The Féile Cups and Team visit Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy

We were absolutely delighted to welcome our U15 Féile Teams to Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy fresh from their double final wins along with the 2 cups.

The young boys and girls were in awe of the cups and this group of players are a true inspiration to all of these players.

Our U8 boys and our U10 boys were playing at home and had the privilege to meet this wonderful group of young men. Plenty of the boys wanted to get their hands on the cups – a good sign for the future!

No doubt, many of the boys will feature on the Senior Scoil Teams of the future and I am sure we will see many of them in the Dublin Colours too.

A big thank you to Thomas Glesson, Club GPO for arranging this visit and to the team mentors, Ronan Murphy and JP Courtney and all the team players for allowing all the younger club members be part of your success.

After visiting the club, the U15 Teams made their way to NEIC Nursery. One of the parents contacted us afterwards to say one of her boys told his brother that he is going to play in Croke Park when he gets big! And so another story begins…

Well done again to the teams and a huge Thank You to each of the boys for inspiring our young players.

School Blitz

We hosted the first schools blitz in 3 years in Fairview Park on Thursday 19 May 2022. We had 9 teams entered, 4 girls and 5 boys teams, across 5 schools which were: St Vincent’s girls, St Columba’s, Central model School, St Laurence O’Tooles and Scoil Neasáin.

We couldn’t have asked for a better playing conditions with the sun beaming down. Overall, we had over 150 boys and girls competing which was fantastic.

The skills have really improved across all the schools. Every team got to either a Cup or Shield Final. Everyone was awarded a medal on the day and also received some goodies going home. We had some of our Scoil Players marking each other during the games too – above Sarah and Mia both U11s marking each other..

Central Model School made the final and with 7 of their players also playing for Scoil, the final really was a Scoil affair. They took on Scoil Neasáin, who came out on top on the day with many Scoil members also playing with Scoil Neasáin. It was almost a Scoil v Scoil Final….

Big thank you has to go to the schools for taking the time to come out and support the club.

Also thanks to Caoimhe Crowe, Aidan Curtin and Cormac Moran for there help on the day.

As the saying goes – you can go nowhere without meeting someone from home!

Well known club member, Sinead McDonald recently took a trip to Richmond Virginia USA to visit her brother. On a wet Monday evening (very unseasonal weather at this time of the year!) it was decided to take a trip to the Bowling Alley in Charlottesville.

While at the bowling alley, Sinead’s brother introduced Sinead to one of his friends also from Ireland. As fate would have it, a Dublin jumper on one of the kids caught her eye… she then spotted another club member – Elaine Owens, mum to the kid in the Dublin jumper…. Sinead’s brother and Elaine’s sister have known each other for a couple of years…. Of course, it wasn’t a popular tourist attraction that their paths crossed…

You really cant go anywhere in the world without meeting somebody from home!

To continue to grow and develop our club, we need you to get involved. A big thank you to everyone that volunteers but there is always room for more people to come on board…

Should you wish to help out in any way at all, it does not need to be in a coaching capacity as there are many areas that you can help, please speak to Thomas, our GPO, Ciaran, our Scoil Hoppers Co-Ordinator, or any of the team coaches or email scoil.pro.eoc@gmail.com.

Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a big difference to the overall success of the club.
