Adult games

‘Reeling in the Years’       Na Fianna   3-7  Scoil            2-11

The second team recorded a one point win away to Na Fianna on Sunday morning last. Shorn of at least ten first choice players and with only eleven  prior to throw in a call to arms was answered by the ageless duo of Matt Cushen and Tommy Naughton who filled the full forward line on their own and proceeded , along with the rest of the gladiators, to give the opposition a most competitive game.

Highlight of the hour was a goal scored by Matt who claims he blasted to the net a la Bubbles Dwyer style.  However, unconfirmed reports suggest that while propping up the goalpost and talking to the opposition goalie the sliothar hit him on the head and managed to dribble over the line. Either way goals win matches.

Exhorted on by Tommy, who firmly planted himself on the twenty metre line, the team manfully ground out a famous victory. Medical reports indicate the two boys are none the worst for their ordeals and will, in time, make a full recovery. The remaining youthful team members ( Shane Cotter and Chubbs included) are hopeful of having a full complement of fifteen available for the next day thereby ensuring our dynamic duo are kept in reserve. All said a most enjoyable game of hurling was had and the objective of giving everyone a game was achieved. (SF)

We’ve reached the knockout stages of some of the Ladies Football championship so all the very best to our teams taking part in the competitions next weekend.

Keep an eye on Facebook / Twitter in case of any late changes to next weekends games.

Support for all games is greatly appreciated by the players and management.

Juveniles

Nursery update

Despite the not so good weather conditions, a fun mini blitz took place in the Nursery last Saturday. The teams in the blitz were small sided (so that every child had a chance to fully participate).  Some of the Nursery team were working hard on the field; coaching, refereeing and encouraging the players while the others were setting up the now indoor Bake Sale & Coffee Morning.  A huge thank you from the Team to everyone who supported Saturday’s events and a míle buíochas for the funds raised (c350 euro) which will be used in the Nursery over the coming months.

Under 9s

The U9’s were away to Ciarans & Binn Eadar on Saturday morning at a Hurling Blitz hosted by Ciarans in May Park. Despite appalling conditions and a pitch which wouldn’t be lost at the ploughing championship, Scoil had some excellent results with 3 out of 4 wins. Despite peppering the goal for entire second match Team B couldn’t level matters after going down to a scored free point in first minute to Ciarans. Kids fought bravely and scored two great goals but equaliser wouldn’t come despite being permanently on their goal line.  All in all, great effort put in by all the kids particularly Rafael (who took plenty of knocks from both opposition and own team mates!) & Liam C on Team B. As per Adam R, Fionn D was on “fire” for Team A. Great to see the kids recognising the efforts of their team mates but as ever…..WIN AS A TEAM / LOSE AS A TEAM.  Friendly Football game organised for next Sat v Binn Eadair at home..details to follow…

Under 16 Girls

The Championship Group stage is now complete. Scoil have finished top of the group, winning 3 and losing 1 game. Victories over Templeogue Synge St, St Annes, Bohernabreena and Naomh Mearnog were all secured with some outstanding displays. A narrow defeat away to Fingallians was the only setback. Next up are semi finals. This team have competed successfully in Div 1 always. However a decision to regrade to Div 2 for the championship was taken and hopes are high for a successful conclusion to the season.

Club Development / Refurbishment of Dressing Rooms / Showers/ Toilets / Gym under the Sports Capital Programme

Griffin Construction Services have commenced the refurbishment works.

The dressing room building is now closed to us.  Teams or players will have no access to the building until the works are complete. For the duration of the refurbishment works;    (1) the only on-site toilets are in the Clubhouse

(2) the upstairs room is our only changing room.

Driveway lights are accessible and can be used during the works, just don’t forget to turn them off! Further updates will be posted as we move through the process and thank you for your support.

Dublin Ladies v Cork

What a disappointment for the Dublin Ladies last Sunday in Croke Park. We had great support in Croke Park from across the Club for the Ladies and helped to break the attendance record for a ladies sporting event. Accepting the referee’s result was probably the right thing to do with very gracious comments from the County Executive in their statement on Monday. Here’s hoping for another good year in 2017.

Dublin v Mayo
