Well, we do it all again in two weeks but we have the Ladies final to look forward to first!
Adult games
A great game for the neutrals in Marlay Park on Saturday evening as we battled it out with Ballinteer St Johns for the points in the Division 2 league. Some excellent performances from our lads including Ruairi Coady, Gary Rolls, Alistair Cassidy and Barry Cushen and a converted penalty from Conor Dixon. While we had a one point lead in injury time, Ballinteer did just enough to score in the 76th minute and draw the game at the final whistle. We will wait to see how results work out over the next few weeks before we know if we have secured a playoff place.
A good competitive game in the Division 7 game away to St Finbarrs last Sunday.
Keep an eye on Facebook / Twitter in case of any late changes to next weekends games.
Support for all games is greatly appreciated by the players and management.
Juveniles
Nursery update
With close to 80 players last Saturday, the nursery continues to grow from strength to strength. To help players showcase their new skills, a fun mini blitz in planned for next Saturday (24 September). The teams in the blitz will be small sided (so that every child will have a chance to fully participate). As this number of teams will stretch our nursery volunteers, we welcome help from any parent/club member that is willing to help out by co-ordinating a team or even acting as a referee.
To be fair and supportive to the players who will make the big step up from the nursery to the U8 team next February, Wed night sessions will be restricted to the orange group until further notice.
Under 11s
The Under 11s welcomed Westmanstown to the Club on Saturday morning and played two very entertaining games with both team showing great skill and working hard to the final whistle. A draw was a fair result in the high scoring ‘A’ game with Scoil coming back from being at least 11 points down at half time. Great team talk lads!
Under 13 Girls
It was only a challenge game and it was bucketing rain but our girls showed Vincent’s that whether it’s water polo or football it doesn’t matter they are all heart. It was agreed that the ref would only play fifteen minutes a side and right from the throw in our girls showed their mettle. Abby saved ball after ball even though the torrential rain made it almost impossible to see it coming at her. Lia made a comeback that would result in whole paragraphs of praise in any sporting paper.Siofra D has mastered the art of sticking to her opponent like glue which she did to great effect. Kellyann was a threat to Vincent’s every time she grasped those balls. In fact out backs were superb. If we had to say anything about Reailtin it must be that she never gave up which is probably why Vincents kept changing her marker. Sadhbh’s football was elegance and grace as usual despite the weather. Isabelle made some excellent catches and passes proving she is an asset anywhere on the pitch while Holly ran the length of the pitch always happy to support other players which is the real mark of a team player
Siobhan started off with some great catches but unfortunately found it impossible to see the ball which given the conditions was not surprising. It seems the ref couldn’t either! Poor Ella was playing her heart out until a knock on the nose put her out of action but she bore up very bravely. Well done Ella. Eimear continues to surprise us with her newfound tenacity nobody is going to to get her ball if she can help it. What can we say about Caoimhe’s scoring spree except you had to feel sorry for the Vinny’s goalie who, to be fair, made some great saves but could not do anything to stop Caoimhe when she decided to go for that net. She was like one of those wind up toys that keep repeating a movement. Certainly Vincent’s were winning at halftime but in the second half, whichwas far longer than the allottedfifteen minutes, it was Scoil all the way.
Well done to the girls and the parents who braved the elements. I am sure that those parents will all agree it was worth every drop of rain to see the performance of our girls. Certainly it was a very happy Paul who said well done to his team and who can blame him? (NC)
Minor Hurlng
A good performance from the ‘Isles’ on Sunday morning despite the early throw in time of 10am. Goals from Robert Kennedy, Eoghan McKay and Caoimhin MacCarthaigh secured the win along with some excellent frees from Daragh Levins. The winning performance was built on the work of Sam Callan, Sean Barry and Conor Farrelly who closed down the Cuala attack. Plenty to build on for the next hurling championship outing on 2 October.
Club Development / Refurbishment of Dressing Rooms / Showers/ Toilets / Gym under the Sports Capital Programme
Griffin Construction Services have commenced the refurbishment works.
The dressing room building is now closed to us. Teams or players will have no access to the building until the works are complete. For the duration of the refurbishment works; (1) the only on-site toilets are in the Clubhouse
(2) the upstairs room is our only changing room.
Further updates will be posted as we move through the process.
Transition Year
As always, we very much welcome our members in Transition Year to help out in Club activities. Some members may be undertaking the Gaisce awards and helping out at the Nursery on Saturday morning or Wednesday evening is the ideal way to achieve your community goal. We hope that some of our TY students can drop into the Club on Saturdays at 10am and pass on their skills to our youngest members. Go raibh maith agaibh.

Under 12 Ladies
Delighted to report that we were represented by club members Aidan Mulligan (Manager) and Eve Courtney (Player) on the Dublin U12 team last Saturday for their first football Blitz. Here’s JP’s feedback on the day:
What a fantastic week it’s been for Scoil Ui Chonaill’s Eve Courtney.
Firstly, made Captain of Scoil Neasáin Girls Team, then quickly followed by her DUBLIN U12 DEBUT today at Leinster Football Blitz in Portlaoise!
Hard to describe the fantastic feeling and pride of seeing your child running onto the pitch for the “Dubettes” for the first time.
While her team didn’t make the finals, they were excellent for a group of kids only training together for the last 4 weeks versus their country opposition who’ve been together since January!
Must say, Eve did her Club/SUC Mentors & Team very proud today with commanding performances at Half Back/Full Back/Corner Forward.
Special thanks to Aidan Mulligan & his fellow Dub12 mentors for getting all the kids prepared for today and making it an experience they’ll never forget!
Well done Eve and Aidan!
Dublin Ladies v Cork
Here’s the rematch we’ve been looking forward to! The Dublin v Cork Ladies All Ireland Final takes place next Sunday 25th September in Croke Park at 4pm This should be a great game as Dublin have been close in recent years against a very strong Cork team. See the following message from the President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association:
At this time I am appealing to all clubs throughout the country to ask their members to come out and support the players in these crucial games. As you know the inter-county players involved give great commitment and dedication to the sport. I am asking every member of the LGFA to show similar dedication and commitment to the players as they run onto the field of play to represent their counties. This game and your sport needs you and your club members to come out in force to the TG4 All Ireland Finals. We constantly strive for recognition of our players talents and to promote the game at all levels throughout the country, every club can make a contribution to this effort by getting out and showing support for the game we all love so dearly.
This year we are striving to have the largest ever crowd in Croke Park for TG4 Ladies final day, please be part of our efforts to change the record this year and show the country the great support and enthusiasm there is amongst our members for our sport. It begs the question ‘if we don’t support our own then who will?’ These teams certainly deserve our support, please give it.
Several of our teams are organising trips to Croke Park and you can get tickets at www.tickets.ie for what promises to be a great day out and a very competitive game!
