Strictly Come Dancing!!!

We’re almost there!  You can read the latest instalment in our fantastic Strictly’ blog here    You can catch up on the couples as well as all the information you need about Friday night!

Only two more sleeps and we’re in to the RDS Concert Hall for our big Strictly Scoil Dancing celebration.  While there can only be one winning couple, we know that all our dancers have put in great work over the past 8 weeks between dance practice, fund raising and now the grooming process!  Everything from hair to make up and fake tan will be organised from our sponsor Beautify.ie for all the dancers taking part in the show.  We’re hearing that the audience will include supporters who have flown in from London, York and Dubai to see the show and enjoy the Scoil welcome and hospitality.  All that’s left now is to ensure you have a ticket and that you vote for your favorite couple(s) who deserve great support.

Keep up with the ‘Strictly’ news on social media and on our website http://www.scoilgaa.com/strictly-scoil/

Lots of teams getting behind their Dancing Couples – see here for more!

  • Our Adult ladies supported Cathriona & Chris with a Coffee morning in the Clubhouse on Saturday last.  The couple also give the attendees a demonstration of their dance which went down a treat along with the tea, coffee and baking.
  • Also on Saturday, the Under 15s organised a special event to support their couple, Danny & Jen.  The results of the SUC 2016 prestigious puc/kick fada competitions were as follows:
    • Senior puc fada: Colm Kennedy pipped longtime leader John Kelly with the last puc of the day. The Galway man had gone home before entries closed thinking victory was secure!!
    • Senior kick fada – Killian o Connell – led from start to finish.
    • Junior puc fada – Luke Murphy (he also beat Ronan !)
    • Junior kick fada – Luke Murphy pipping long time leader joe Linnane with a late monster kick.
    • Thanks to everyone who participated!!

PS we believe there have been calls for a stewards enquiry especially from some of the adults!

  • Then on Sunday the Under 13 Girls gathered to raise funds for their couple, Joanne & Conor, and what a night it was. Siobhan’s mum Sinead took over for the night and gave an example of how to entertain both girls and parents with a fun packed programme. She organised the girls into three teams and raced them, individually at first then each runner had to catch another member of her team and so on. Sinead then persuaded the parents to join in in the three legged race much to the amusement of the girls and one plaintive team member was heard to urge her mother to join in because “All the other parents are running mum.”  The visit of Conor and Joanne had everyone clapping and cheering especially when Conor brought new meaning to the dance term glide as he skidded on the wet grass!  Their dance was a very athletic affair as he threw Joanne up and over his shoulder until she must have been dizzy. Our dancers did not go straight home but got caught up in the excitement of the night. I was delighted that old age saved me from being drowned when the fun and games ended with a game of throwing water filled balloons over a badminton net. The night ended with a frenzied run around the club grounds in hot pursuit of JP whom the girls had decided needed a good wash.  All in all it was a great bonding exercise for the girls who gave Joanne and Conor a very vocal send off wishing them good luck on Friday.  Our thanks to Sinead and the parents who participated. It was a night to remember. Niamh C.
  • Great credit also to Muinteoir Tara and Club GPO Joanne who have been passing on their dancing skills to the students in Scoil Neasáin who had great fun learning the steps.  You will enjoy watching the whole school get behind the dancers on our Facebook page – great to see sport and dancing mixing so well. Definitely worth a look here!

Adult games

Our four adult teams secured wins in the latest round of games.  A great win v St Annes in on Saturday evening for the Seniors to make it three in a row of league wins.  For those who made the long trip to Bohernabreena this was a fantastic game to watch and arguably the best attacking performance from the team in the past few years.  Working well from all positions there were lots of strong performances but among the best were Neil O’Flynn at half back with two points from play, Conor & Ruairí Coady at midfield, the electric Conor Dixon with four points from play and a free, along with Niall Doherty and Alistair Cassidy.  The subs also added their bit with Michael McCluskey contributing 1-2 and Barry Cushen a further 3 points.  However, the overall standout performance came from Eoghan O’Connell who gave a masterclass on the field.  Next up is a home game v St Mary’s, Saggart on Wednesday at 7.30pm in Clontarf and the lads are now pushing for a Division 1 play off place so your support would be greatly appreciated.  Also to mention that both Eoghan and Conor Coady are also practicing their dance moves for Strictly in the RDS on Friday so fantastic commitment from them on and off the field.

Then on Sunday morning the 2nd team had a good away win v Wild Geese. The game was secure although we made heavy weather in the second half and conceded a late goal.  Great to see Shaun Doolin and Daragh MCGrath back on the field following recent injuries and they both made important contributions in the game along with Shane Corry and Dec Devane in securing the points.

The rescheduled third team game went ahead last night and saw a great win away to Tyrrelstown.

In Clontarf this evening, the ladies had a comprehensive win over Fingallians in their Cup game. Another good team performance with some well taken points to add to the 6 goal tally. The Ladies play Raheny in St Annes next Wednesday also in the Cup and support is very welcome.

Support for all games is greatly appreciated by the players and management.

Juveniles

Nursery

A warm welcome awaits the players in the nursery every Saturday with lots of games, co-ordination and fun for all.  The Nursery starts at 10am and new members are always welcome!

Juveniles

Under 9s:

Team JP Scoil U9’s were at home on Sat morning v Peregrines Gaa. As usual, they didn’t disappoint!
Two matches played – One Win & One Draw. Huge improvement in some of the kids today with Alex Cahil Culligan having his best game to date (hooking/defending like a kid possessed!!!!). From Team Jp perspective, absolutely loved the reaction from the opposition’s kids when playing against our girls, with Aoileen, Sophie, Ella, Caterina & Eabha all playing an integral part in our drawn game. We have the makings of an extremely effective Camogie Team going forward. Let’s not forget the boys with Nathan, Liam, Charlie , Addi (new), Jack & Alex Cahill C who were superb also!

Team Liam played very well against a very tough physical opposition…Lukes puck outs were excellent throughout and he cleared the ball to the wings when the ball came in…Tadgh was brilliant in the first half clearing all the danger while he was well supported by Rafa and Alex at the back…in the middle Conal and Neil worked tirelessly with Conal hitting two great points…up front Alan scored a couple of good goals and one great high catch while Alex C worked very hard and scored a couple of great goals…a very pleasing win with the boss away  my half-time team talk was Liam, Adam and Fionn waiting on the beach for the result so we can’t let them down

Scoil Neasáin

Just a reminder that the Scoil Neasáin’s senior hurlers play their Cumann na mBunscol Corn Mhic Phiarais Final in Croker on Monday 20th June @ 11.10.   The Junior hurlers won the Go Games North 3 with a 100% record. The buachaillí and cailíní have been training twice a week since February so their hard work has paid off ! The majority of the players line out with Scoil and is testament to the brilliant work done by Joanne and the mentors.  Ar scáth a chéile !  (Shane)

A poor second half performance from the Dublin hurlers saw Killkenny ease their way through to the Leinster Final.  We await details of the qualifier game which Dublin will now participate in.
