Strictly Come Dancing!!!
This week instead of going into detail here I’m going to ask, in fact recommend that you read two information posts about our Strictly event – just click on the links at 1 and 2:
1. As Couples launch nears; FOMO sets in – to give you a real sense of the event / participation of dancers / commitment from all involved
2. Learning to Solo: The Strictly Scoil Sponsorship opportunity – what is involved in turning the event into a major fundraiser for the Club and how you can help.
I hope you can take the time to read these updates and get to know more about what is going on. We want to spread the word across the Club and beyond so by liking / sharing / talking about the event wherever possible you can support the events too.
We’re really looking forward to the ‘Couples & Dance Routine Reveal’ announcement by our host Adrian Kennedy on Saturday in the Clubhouse and extra facilities are being put in place to make everyone welcome. Hope you can make it to the match / BBQ / Announcement for another special night in the Club!
For more information on any aspect of the event on Saturday 14 May or the main event on 17 June please contact Alan Cronin 085-7182745 alan.cronin@accenture.com Declan O’Sullivan on 086-3820125.
Keep up with the ‘Strictly’ news on social media and on our website www.scoilgaa.com. Let the dancing begin!!!
Adult games
It was a very competitive Intermediate hurling championship fixture v Na Fianna last Saturday evening but unfortunately the lads lost out by the narrowest margin. Despite strong defending and some great goal chances, the opposition just seemed to have luck on their side to secure the win. Next up is a league game v St Peregrines.
The Juniors secured their second win in the Round robin championship with a decisive win v O’Tooles in their game in St Annes on Sunday afternoon.
After a great few weeks of wins in league and cup games, the Ladies lost out in tonight’s championship fixture against a very strong Naomh Barrog. Another championship game next Wednesday this time v Raheny in St Annes.
On Saturday we host Erins Isle in the Intermediate football championship game which throws in at 6pm. Then on Sunday the 3rd team head to Skerries for their game at 3pm. The second team are through to the next round but waiting for other fixtures to catch up.
Then on to hurling league fixtures with a Division 3 game on Wednesday 18 May at 7.15pm in Clontarf v St Peregrines. Support for these games would be greatly appreciated.
Juveniles
Nursery
The Nursery takes place in the Club every Saturday from 10am and new members are always welcome. Plenty of fun and games as the coaches work on skills development but in a structured way to encourage participation and enjoyment.
Visit of Division One National Football league Trophy
We were delighted to welcome Denis Bastick to the Club on Saturday, along with the trophy, and he dropped by each group and their coaches during training or around games. Denis spoke to the groups and everyone listened with great interest particularly as he gave great encouragement to all involved. Among the highlights was the fact that Denis first played for the Dublin Seniors at 28 and was part of the Junior team for a few years before that. You can check out some pictures from the visit by following the link here.
Under 16 Girls Castleknock 4-05 Scoil Uí Chonaill 3-18
Our U16 Division 1 league campaign ended on Sunday. We’ve being having a bad run in recent games but the girls were tremendous today. Beat Castleknock away by 3.18 to 4.5. Yes 3.18 we scored. All the players were outstanding. They deserve a special mention and great admiration as they’ve never dropped their heads when they could have. Well done all. (Peter K)

Some important dates for your diary. The camps take place in the Club and more details will be available soon:

Table Quiz – Ladies football There was a full house for the adult ladies team Table Quiz last Friday 6th May. It was great to see the Clubhouse so busy and again we had great feedback on the renovations from some members who hadn’t made it to the opening night. A big thank you to everyone who participated in the Quiz and who supported the Raffle (with some great prizes) from Gus Rock and Kate Walley. Thanks also to the Bar Staff for looking after everyone on the night.
Bag Packing – Sat 7 May
Another busy Saturday in Scoil Uí Chonaill last Saturday! Thanks to Teresa & Killian O’Connell for organising a ‘Bag Packing’ event in Supervalu, Killester and to Robert and the team there for accommodating our efforts. We had some very enthusiastic young collectors as well as lots of parents and older players helping to pack bags. The event raised €1,720 which is a fantastic achievement. Go raibh maith agaibh!
Cake Sale
We’re hosting a Cake Sale in the Club on Saturday from 10am in support of Gaelcholáiste Reachrann with lots of special bakes as well as tea and coffee. Here’s a message from Celine who’s co-ordinating the event ‘Tá súil agam gur féidir leat teacht Dé Sathairn seo chugainn Caife agus císte maidin Gaelcholaiste Reachrann’
New Contributors always WELCOME. Match reports / team news / player updates are always welcome – send them on anytime for inclusion in the Club news!
Best wishes to our players from O’Connells’ School Primary and St Brigid’s, Killester who celebrate their First Holy Communion on Saturday 14 May.
Hope to see you at the Cake sale, Intermediate game, BBQ and / or Strictly announcement on Saturday!
