Strictly Come Dancing!!!

The next event in the ‘Strictly’ calendar is the announcement of ‘Couples and Dance Routine Reveal’ on Saturday 14 May in the Clubhouse.  This will be the night to meet all our dancers and find out who has been ‘matched’ up with who! The Dancers started their training on Tuesday and they were put through their paces for over 2.5 hours so a good night’s sleep was guaranteed for all.  The Dance practice is taking place in O’Connells School every Tuesday evening.  Thanks to our ‘Dance Mentors’ who are looking after the participants including Dave, Alyson and Marion who laid on tea, sandwiches and bottled water for all.  Very positive feedback on the Dancers so far!

Already, over 30 club members are involved in organizing the ‘Strictly’ event and all the extras involved.  We have a few more tasks that need some volunteers so we’re asking for some more help and hoping that a few people would step up and add their support for the event. So if you can help out over the next 5/6 weeks please let us know by replying to this mail or contacting Alan, Declan, Ronan Murphy, Joan Cushen or John Coady.

For more information on any aspect of the event on Saturday 14 May or the main event on 17 June please contact Alan Cronin  085-7182745  alan.cronin@accenture.com  Declan O’Sullivan on 086-3820125.   You will also be able to keep up with the ‘Strictly’ news on social media and on our website www.scoilgaa.com.  Let the dancing begin!!!

Adult games

A good mix of championship results for our adult football teams as the first round games were completed.  Both Junior championship teams won and are through to the next round with fixtures provisionally set for 15 May.  An excellent performance by the 3rd team on Thursday evening on their successful trip to Naomh Barrog.  There were some great saves from Ronan Murphy aka Joe Hart in goal while Cian MacDohmnall and Stiofan Morgan were among the best performers on the night.  A converted 45 from Aidan (the lob) Mulligan, playing outfield in this game, was one of the highlights. Lots of good team spirit evident here too.

Disappointment in the Intermediate Championship as we had a below par performance on the night, particularly in the first half as Fingallians established an 0-11 – 0-2 half time lead.  The second half was more keenly contested and saw some great opportunities created but our goal chances were not converted resulting in a 1-7 scoreline from both teams.  Next up is a championship game v Erins Isle with date, time and venue to be confirmed.

Another great result for the Ladies tonight in their league game v Na Fianna.  Some great scores to secure a nine point won in this game.  Thanks again to Gus for the score almost at the final whistle.

It’s round two of hurling championship fixtures this weekend with the Intermediate game on Saturday evening in Mobhi Road and the Junior game in Blunden Drive on Sunday.  Support for these games would be greatly appreciated.

Juveniles

Nursery

As always, our Club Nursery was in full swing on Saturday morning with plenty of games and drills to work through for the youngest players.  The Nursery takes place in the Club every Saturday from 10am and new members are always welcome.

Under 9s  – update from JP

Bank holiday Weekends – You can’t beat them!

Scoil U9’s hosted Na Fianna in football this morning. Team Liam Ryan had a very close game with plenty of bite on show from both sides and sidelines by all accounts! Thankfully the lads came through and won the game with Fionn Daly the star on the day (run a close second by the rest).

Tale of two halves for Team Jp….First half with wind with us, we got a few scores with Sophie getting us off the mark with fist point but huge amount of wides also. Sadhbh, Alex Cahill and Ella were busy bees (as asked) which allowed Caterina & Sophie to bully mid field. Unfortunately second half we allowed them back in and game ended in a draw despite great solo effort from Little Conal and Defensive work by Eabha, Raphael, Adam (new) & Calvin (new). Finn and Caoimhe played their part when they came on also.  Team Jp getting better but improvement required. Poor Raphael was in tears coming off today when subbed, such is the passion of the lad to stay on field!
