It’s been the word around the Club for almost nine months, but the week is upon us. With the first of our events in Chicago – the Business Networking Lunch – taking place on September 19th, this will be the last issue of The Stag’s Voice before proceedings kick off.
Our remaining ask to you all is to simply share the below pieces of content on your social media pages to help create a real buzz around the events, and help to sell remaining tickets.
As always, you can get in touch for more specific information.

Scoil Mentors at the Dogs
A great night was had by the Juvenile Mentors at Shelbourne Park last Saturday night. The Club had some great exposure with a two page advert in the programme and presentation to winning owner in the Scoil-sponsored race. Thanks to Paul Maher for organising a well deserved outing for our hard working Mentors.
Wise Words from Scoil Dub
It was great to have Scoil #1 and Dublin panelist Andy Bunyan giving our Under 11 squad some excellent advice on how to keep practicing and working hard to develop their skills in Gaelic football and Hurling.
Meet Eoghan O’Connell!
How long have you been involved in Scoil Uí Chonaill?
My whole life (27 years).
Do you have any nicknames? How do you like to be addressed?
I’ve loads of nicknames but the one I’m known for in Scoil is nipper/ knipper. There is an ongoing debate amongst the lads on which way it should be spelled.
Where do you hail from?
Chapelizod, Dublin.
How did you come to be involved in Scoil?
Both of my parents played for Scoil so as soon as I could walk I was thrown into a pair of boots.
Briefly describe your Scoil career as a player / mentor / contributor, if any.
Well I played football and hurling all the way up until I gave up hurling at U16 – a potential return is still on the cards! Been playing on the first team in football since minor and we had a good run up the divisions from 5 to 2 so it’s been an enjoyable journey. Plenty of big days still ahead so I’m excited about that.
What is your favourite sporting moment / sportsperson? (any club, any sport)
Has to be Cluxton kicking the winner in 2011.
Relive the moment!
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you in Scoil?
May not have been me directly but I was playing when Aidan Mulvey ran the pitch against Whitehall on a massive solo run in an U9s match and took a shot that narrowly went wide only for him to turn around and realise he was going the wrong way when the ref had his hand up for a 45. We still laugh about it to this day.
If Scoil was a country, what would it be?
Nigeria. We’ve plenty of men and women (Marion mottram) who love a pint of Guinness.
What would you say you are most known for within Scoil? i.e. what do people associate you with?
The chairman’s son is the safe the answer here 😀
What has been your greatest Scoil moment / achievement?
Winning the minor E championship. It wasn’t exactly the highest level I ever played but I played with most of those lads all the way up and that was the last game a lot of us played together so it was great to finish on a win. Also, if I’m not mistaken it’s the last football championship the men’s section have won.
What is your profession / field of study / passion?
I recently set up my own company called EXCAPE. Go check us out on Instagram and Facebook @excapestudios.
What are your favourite hobbies outside of GAA?
Going the gym and running.
What is your favourite Scoil ‘quirk’?
I always find the laminated A4 sheet that Peter Morley sticks on the dressing room door saying the pitch is closed amusing.
Finally, if you could make one addition to Scoil in any way (don’t be restricted by the plausible!), what would it be?
Really wish this wasn’t limited to one. if I had to choose one it would be to build an underground car park to free up more land for building other facilities and allow us to maximise the space.
Want to feature in the Stag’s Voice?
As a Club, we really pride ourselves on the close-knit community that we have at Scoil Uí Chonaill – help us in our effort in getting to know all of our members by filling out the Meet the Member’s Questionnaire!

Minor Boys Football
St. Paul’s 3-15 Skerries Harps 3-7
Scoil & O’Tooles combined minor team got off to winning start in the championship. We started strongly with some well worked scores. A costly turnover gifted skerries a goal and at half time the two sides were level. In the second half we started to dominate the middle third & eventually that started to show on the scoreboard & a very strong last quarter left us winning by 8 points.
Some excellent performances from Scoil lads notably Adam Nolan with a man of the match display at centre back. Others to show well were Sean Downes, David Kennedy, Donal McKay, Ciaran MacDonald, Feargal O’Connell, Peter Cronin & Eoin Sterio stand in goal keeper for the day with excellent kick outs.
Next round away to St Marks, Sep 23rd.
U10 Boys Hurling
The under 10 boys started back hurling after the summer break with a away game against Good Counsel. We had a narrow win 3-1 to 3-0. We did all the good work and scoring in the first half but took our foot off the gas in the second and let the opposition back into the game – a couple of injuries during the second half didnt help.
Goals were scored by Temi, Jake and Paddy (who also got the point). The game featured our two new players Michael and Matteus – neither of them has ever played hurling before but notwithstanding that they were well able to contribute to overall a great team performance and are welcome additions. Isaac and Senan put in a great performance in midfield dominating the first half and winning some great ball for the forwards. Ruairi, Callum, Conor Meehan, Cillian and Evan performed well at the back in the first half keeping the opposition scoreless. Good Counsel fought back well in the second half with a few scores. Overall a good return from the summer break.
U9’s & U10’s Girls Football
U10 Girls
The U10’s Girls were away to Fingallians on Saturday. This was a big challenge for the girls as Fingallians were on the whole an older and stronger side. The girls played extremely well with some excellent defending and some good scores but the physical strength of the opposition told in the end. However this was an impressive display of commitment and grit and these games will help bring on the girls particularly those playing up a year.
Green Team
Really brave performances all round. Abbey, Eabha and Caoimhe battled hard in mid field and chipped in with some good scores. Niamh, Abigail and Aoife were busy in the forward line while Taiya, Lauren, Emily and Aoibhín tackled heroically in defence.
Amber team
Strong performances all round, Aishat and Andrea covered lots of ground, tacking and marking some very strong opposition. Aibhlinn was strong in midfield and towards the forward line scoring some lovely points. Angelica on her first football day out showed real promise and read the game well
U9 Girls
U9s played Clanna Gael on a lovely Sunday morning. Strong performances all round and some fantastic team play.
Green Team
Abigail was strong in all positions, kicking ball off her left and right and scoring some beautiful points. Abby and aoibheann were strong and battled hard breaking through and making plays from many positions. Some of our younger players came into their own today. Sarah Mc grane was strong in midfield and Roisin and Sarah were on the ball in the forward line.
Blue Team
The strength in depth of the team allowed us to try out players in different positions with the overall aim of developing players who are tactically aware and confident in possession. Nessa was the prototype for this as her skill and intelligence seemed to transmit to those around her as the game unfolded. Taiya and Priya were the chief collaborators as we consistently turned midfield possession into scoring opportunity for which Aoife was the ideal finisher. Every team member contributed greatly to the performance including Abbey Whelan on her debut in Scoil colours.

U9 Hurling
U9 hurlers hit high notes against Skerries Harps
With skilful, committed performances by all teams, there was never a danger that our U9 hurlers would play second fiddle to Skerries Harps on Saturday morning. This was a great performance by our players and from the coaches point of view, it is great to see the continuous improvement.
The maroon team had a tough, tight game with a lot of tackling and few scores. Noah was in a very determined mood and did three perfect block downs to dispossess his opponents. Sean looked like Joe Canning when he sent a brilliant long range free over the bar. Sam put in another great performance in defence with some inspirational tackling and hooking.
For the amber team Cody had a wonderful game in goal and make a number of super saves. Conal had a wonderful game with a number of strong tackles and long clearances. If he keeps playing this well, John Kiely might be looking for him next season! Rory covered lots of ground and kept the ball moving forward with super strikes.
For the blue team, Cian showed that he has been practicing at home and did some marvellous strikes. Michael Murphy has never put in as many tackles as did Hugh who chased, hooked and blocked his opponents all day. Fionnán also tried hard and showed great striking skills.
