Great excitement in the Club on Saturday morning as the Under 10s hosted four Clubs in the annual Dublin hurling Blitz!
Adult games
Another good weekend on the field for our adult hurlers with two excellent results in the championship. On Saturday evening, the Junior A Championship game took place in Clontarf and a strong performance from the team secured the win. Great to see coverage of another good performance featured in the Dublin GAA supplement in the Evening Herald – ‘Scoil enjoy Cushen at top of table.’ Scoil Uí Chonaill maintained their unbeaten championship campaign as they enjoyed a comfortable 2-23 to 2-11 victory over Naomh Fionnbarra in their encounter on the Clontarf Road last Saturday evening. Barry Cushen proved Scoil’s scorer-in-chief as he accrued 1-10 over the hour including eight points from placed balls. Andy Bunyan was on the mark for the hosts from full-forward as he chipped in with 1-3 while others to shine in the scoring stakes were Pauric Naughton, Conor Coady, Michael McCluskey and Alan Cronin. Naughton was very impressive from midfield as he chipped in with five points while wing-forward Seán Kirwan and half-back Joe Ryan also made positive contributions for the winners. (Nice to have an official report to include)
On Sunday, the Junior Championship game was played on a lovely afternoon in Clontarf. This was a game dominated by Scoil but somehow the canny O’Tooles forwards managed two goals in each half to keep them in the game. Thankfully, and to the delight of the home support, Colm dropped a 65 into the roof of the net close to the final whistle to ensure a Scoil win by two points. Definitely a deserved win for this team who are working well together and picking up some good wins in the championship.
The 2nd Mens football team played St Kevin’s Killians last night in the Club and in a very tense encounter secured a two point win. This was a very good result against a tough opposition who have been performing strongly in the league.
This evening’s fixtures both produced good performances but disappointing results:
The Ladies played St Judes the league leaders and put in a great performance in their game but lost out by five points.
The AFL2 game resulted in a win for St Patricks by the narrowest of margins following a tight contest in Clontarf. Both teams had a high number of wides but Pats managed to convert a free in the final minute to secure the win.
A further round of football fixtures next weekend with league games for each of the three teams.
Support is very welcome for all games and much appreciated by the Players and management teams.
Keep an eye on Facebook / Twitter for updates on fixtures.
Juveniles

Lots of fun and games at the Nursery on Saturday in lovely conditions in Clontarf. Once again, the parents who got involved had almost as much fun as the children! The focus in on flexibility,

All Welcome!!!
Under 8s
Message from JP – U8 hurlers were away to Castleknock this morning (Sat) and didn’t disappoint! Played 4 (Won 3/Drew 1) – Goals galore for Scoil with Fionn D scoring a point also. Hat tricks for both Team Jp (Alex) & Ronan/Dave (Alan). Everyone played with great determination, as shown by two broken hurls!! One over poor Alex’s knee!!
TEAM Jp – Great to see Liam & Nathan getting on score sheet. Alex & Tadhg were on “fire” in midfield despite the heavy tackles reining in on them & super defending by Aoileen & Neil also! Liam Ryan you would have been proud!
Added text from Ronan ‘Despite the long grass and hot conditions, Scoil Team 2 played some brilliant hurling in our two games. Special mention to Conal who put in six great hooks and had a storming morning. Fionn scored a great point while Alan got hat-trick on both games. Luke made some great clearances while Charlie but in great work in both games, Caoimhe deserved a goal for her endeavours but was inches wide with her two shots.’
Under 10 Girls Leinster Blitz in Moorefield Kildare
Message from Aidan: .
Today (Saturday) was our first anniversary as a proper team and gave us a chance to see how much the girls have grown after our first entry last year in this competition. Thankfully it appears they have come on in leaps and bounds. I set them the target of winning 3 from 6 games before the first whistle and the girls did themselves proud by winning the first four games ( Erins Isle, Kill, Baltinglass and Ballyboden ). Raheny led by an ex scoil player unfortunately proved too strong as their size and age proved the difference as our mix of 7/8/9 yr olds finally wilted in the glorious sunshine. We ended the day with a better idea of where we stand and what we need to improve on but filled with pride at the effort the girls give to each other and for the club as they continue to punch above their weight. As a Baltinglass mentor said to a parent in their club ” jaysis those Scoil girls are a fine mix of skill, fight and determination”. I was so proud. Scoil abú.
Under 10s
The Under 10s welcomed teams from Beann Eadair, Craobh Chairain and Na Fianna to the Club on Saturday morning. Well done to Finbarr Meagher and his team for organising games for each of the two teams in this four team tournament. Some great skill and determination on show on a beautiful morning in Clontarf from all taking part. Everyone received a medal as well as goodies before heading off tired but happy!
Under 12 Girls
This was the last game before the break and we had nineteen girls all willing and anxious to play. The very tall opposition, almost 6 foot we reckon, were well placed to pick up every ball the referee threw up, particularly in the first half. In the second half our girls decided that if they couldn’t beat Brigid’s they could contain them. They played heroically defending and harrying their opponents. Even our smallest girls moved in on the opposition and refused to let them have easy access to the goal but it was too little too late. Brigids were superior in height and speed. What we took from this game was that our girls never hung their heads and played valiantly until the last whistle. Certainly against any other team they would have given a very good account of themselves. The mentors were very proud of their bravery on the day. After the game we had a fun presentation of cups and some sweets which went down very well and very fast! We urge parents to send the girls to summer camp and we thank them for their ongoing and very good- humoured support. As far as we are concerned our girls are great and they have the cups to prove it! Happy holidays everyone.
Under 14 Boys
The under 14 team put in a great performance against St Sylvesters on Saturday afternoon in St, Annes with the match ending in a draw 3-9 to 2-12. The result keeps the lads in contention for honours at the top of the league. The team were down 7 regular players due to injury & holidays. The team battled to the very end got their rewards with a last minute goal to draw the game. Great performances from Shay Lowry (0-1), Peader Cronin, Adam Nolan (0-1), Feargal O’Connell (1-1), David Oprea & Josh O’Toole (2-1).
Special thanks to Costello’s Pharmacy in 25 Marino Mart in Fairview for sponsoring a new set of jerseys. (Costello’s are a great sponsor of Club activity and are open till 8pm every weekday & 6pm on Saturday.) The Official team photographer Neil McDermott is currently on holidays so we’ll have to wait a bit longer for photos of the new gear.

Fantastic organisation by Erica Casey and her team of trainers from the St John’s Ambulance service who gave everyone who took part an excellent grounding in first aid and in the use of the Defibrillator. Hopefully these skills will be worth having but will not need to be used extensively.
Just a reminder that the defibrillator is located in the ‘home’ dressing room (room on the left)

Charity event – John Farrelly, Girls Football Mentor
I am cycling in the Tour de Burren on 20st June 2015 in aid of the charity HHT Ireland which my friends Dave and Dara Woods have set up after they lost their 22 year old son Paul Woods to the blood disease HHT. You will find more information on this charity in the link below where donations can be made, I would really appreciate any donations large or small for this worthy cause.
Believe me I have cycled the little legs off myself training in preparation for this event! and am only quarter the man I used to beJ so it will be all worth while if I can make a contribution to help the fund research into little known blood disease. Thanks a million!!!!!!
