Adult games
Hard to believe but the Intermediate Championship game was just one of many fixtures scheduled for last Friday that was called off due to the weather conditions and water logged pitches. The game has been refixed for Wednesday 20th May at 7.15pm in Drumnigh. Support vital for this one!
A very one sided game in the Junior Championship on Sunday afternoon as we defeated St Monicas by 2-28 to 0-2 – a score from our team every two minutes! They game was certainly eventful for St Monicas who lost players early on through a mix of injuries and red cards. Scoil had a strong team on the day with everyone playing their part to ensure the win. They now play St. Peregrines in Blakestown on Sunday 7th June at 3pm.
Next weekend is hurling championship with a game for the 1st team on Saturday evening v Kilmacud Crokes in Silver Park at 6pm while the 2nd team have a bye in this round.
Keep an eye on Facebook / Twitter for updates on scheduled fixtures.
Juveniles
Nursery
“Best nursery session of the year”
A lot of great feedback from many kids and parents who felt that Saturday was one of the best and most enjoyable sessions of the year. Not alone did we progress onto more challenging football and hurling drills, but some parents stepped in to assist the coaches with hurling drills. This greatly helped the coaches and both kids and mammies seemed to enjoy themselves immensely. We hope that more parents take the plunge to help the coaches in the coming weeks.
At the end of the session, Joanne explained that we are going to focus on correct grip in the coming weeks and asked parents to place a bangle, hairband (or even a mark) on kids’ strong hand. This will help the coaches and kids to immediately identify the strong (ie dominant), hand and help correct any issues.
Under 8 Boys
Update from JP on Saturday – “Tough as Teak” U8 Hurlers were away to Castleknock this morning. Despite communions/confirmations stripping us of several of our regular players, those who turned up were fantastic! In absence of Ronan Murphy, I took charge of his team and they produced two great draws, coming from behind on both occasions (Fionn Daly scored in first match & Nathan Oates in the second) with both scores coming from brilliant team work. Katerina/Conall twin/Niall Twin/Conal Little /Sophie/ Caoimhe put in great display of determination & drive to pull us level.
Team Liam Ryan pulled off two great wins. Astroturf suited Scoil, with an outstanding performance from Liam’s team. Adam was on fire in 1st match got 4 goals and point. Great defence work from Alex and Rafael. Charlie stepped up in 2nd match and led the team forward when they got tired. Liam Carr got the winning goal in the 2nd match and big thanks to Eabha for switching teams also. Overall a very satisfactory morning of hurling was had by all (Imagine what they would have done, if they were able to train this week).
Under 10 Girls
Update just in from Aidan Mulligan – ‘Great night for football and the under 10 girls showed their all again against a much bigger Craobh team. The evening ended honours even with great scores from both teams.
Some improvements from the girls is great to see and then fight for every ball. Their display of near hand tackling stands to them as they constantly turn over attacks. The winning run ends but with lessons learned they are keen to get back out and start again on another run. Scoil abú.’
Under 16 Hurling Scoil / Clanna Gael 2-16 Na Fianna A 3-16
There was huge disappointment among the players at the final whistle in this Division 1 game on Tuesday evening. Played in a very competitive and fair spirit by both sides, we certainly showed that we deserve our place in Division 1 of the hurling league. Fantastic scores, intensity and skill were all on show with many passers by stopping to enjoy the spectacle. From David McGauran in goal in place of the injured Dean to David Kennedy in corner forward everyone played their part in contributing to the strong performance. Disappointment was the right emotion as we had come so close to beating Na Fianna A but there was also huge pride among all the mentors, coaches and parents who work and support this group of hugely dedicated players. The lads take a break now for a few weeks as many of the players are sitting their Junior Cert next month. Special mention for Eoghan McKay who played last night and then travelled to play Kilkenny for the Dublin Colleges this afternoon.

The Dubs play their Leinster championship games in Croke Park on Sunday 31st May. To coincide with this event, we have organised a bus to bring the younger members of the club to and from Croke Park. The bus will leave at 1pm and return at c 6pm. The price for the juvenile (Up to Under 16) ticket is €12 which includes entry to Croke Park, return bus trip and a freshly made Pasta & Meatballs meal. Sounds like a fantastic event and time to recover on Bank Holiday Monday too! To book a place, contact Ronan Murphy by 21st May.
The Clubhouse will be open after the game for everyone to drop in and hopefully enjoy the ‘apres match’ big day fun and banter. Also, adult tickets for the game are priced at €25. (More details to follow)
