Punching above your weight’

In association with our sponsor Vayu, we hosted a unique event in Croke Park today.  ‘Punching above your weight – achieving high performance in business and sport’ was the title of the event and we heard from inspirational speakers Gary Keegan, Head of the Institute of Sport and Declan O’Sullivan, Manager of our Senior Football team.  The event was hosted by our own Eileen Dunne and sponsored by Vayu, headed by Colm Kennedy former player and current manager of the Under 16 team.   The event was all about being relentlessly focussed on performance and showing ambition to be better at what we do.

Here’s some information on the speakers at today’s event:

Gary Keegan:   Gary’s current role includes:  Working with high performance leaders to support the development of their systems.  He provides world class performance and life-skills support to Ireland’s elite athletes, as well as providing performance and development support to Ireland’s high performance coaches.  He also developed a World Class environment that supports Ireland’s top talent to realise their potential.  While Performance Director of Irish Boxing, he was responsible for Ireland’s High Performance Boxing Programme. Together with boxers, coaches, sports science and medicine support team, he’s built a high performance system which produced a talent pipeline from youth through to senior levels that delivered 29 World level medals between 2003 and 2008.

Declan O’ Sullivan:  Declan works as a HR Business Partner in the Central Bank of Ireland.  As a player, he represented the Louth senior football team and won 2 Louth Senior Championships with his local club St Joseph’s GFC. Declan initially joined Scoil Uí Chonaill in 2011 as a player, and after retiring due to injury took up a selector role. He is now in his third year as manager of the adult football team.  He has led Scoil to successive promotions to bring the club back to senior status for the first time since the mid-nineties. He is committed to the development of the club and players in all aspects of performance, be it physical, technical or mental.

If you have an idea for an event or initiative that would help the Club to further improve performance why not bring it forward.  We are building for the future and working to improve not just our Club but also to develop all our players on and off the field!

Adult games

This is a big week for football fixtures across Dublin with the championship competitions beginning tonight.  We are fixed to play in the Intermediate Championship on Friday night and the Junior Championship on Sunday afternoon.  Support is vital for these games and always appreciated.

Keep an eye on Facebook / Twitter for updates on scheduled fixtures.

Juveniles

Games for Under 8, 9, 10 and 11 teams were scheduled for the Bank Holiday weekend but called off due to the horrendous conditions on Saturday.  (We believe some parents were almost relieved when the texts went out first thing Saturday morning!)

Under 12 girls’ football 5-5-2015

There is no match on Sunday the 10th but we have had a great training session in St. Anne’s without, of course, using the pitches which are saturated.  Ella discovered this to her cost when she sat in one of the puddles. Some of our older girls were going to Inis Oirr the following morning and we hope they have a great time there and play lots of football!   In the meantime we will be concentrating on the younger players who have not travelled and who are improving greatly and are very good at attending training.  Áine was the player of the week this time. Well done Áine. Training on the Tuesday the 12th as usual.  Our next trip is out to Ballyboughal on the 17th so  get your maps out folks!

Table Quiz for Juvenile Section

There is a Table Quiz in the Club on Friday evening, 8th May, from 8.30pm.  Teams of 4 will bid to snatch the crown from our current title holders, Andrea Murphy & Co.  This is a fun event and definitely all about taking part to have a good night while also supporting the Juvenile Section.  Entry per team is €40 and everyone is welcome to bring friends, family and neighbors too!

Boys Feile 2015!

The Boys football Féile fundraiser will be held on Saturday 23rd May and we hope you can support the events. The events will include a Cake Sale / Coffee morning, Sausage Sizzle and Raffle.

Well done to the Under 14 boys who participated in Hurling Féile last Saturday.  The weather conditions were awful throughout the day and the players, parents and mentors deserve special mention for their survival in such inhospitable weather.

Boys Football Féile will take place in Hartstown (St Peregrines) next Saturday 16th May.  We wish Killian, Neal and all the players all the best in this unique competition.

Girls Féile 2015

We’ve had some feedback from parents of the Girls Féile team.  They were very impressed with the organization of the Mentors who had two sets of jerseys on the go and had identified a local laundry where they could dry the first set off straight after the game.  Again the weather conditions were poor, so the preparation put in by the mentors was greatly appreciated by all who took part.

Club Lotto

The new Club Lotto fundraiser is now being launched and the first draw will take place in mid May with a guaranteed jackpot of €500.  Entry is €2 and lotto envelopes are available in the Clubhouse.  Every little helps!

Charity Cake Sale

We’re hosting a Charity Cake Sale on Saturday next 9th May between 10.30am and 12.30pm.  The event is organised by Kate Power a member of the ladies adult football team.  Kate is holding the cake sale as a fundraiser for her upcoming trip to Honduras with DCU global brigades.  She is travelling to Honduras in June as part of a medical brigade and as part of her work Kate has to raise funds to help supply medicine and medical services to the community. Any support for Kate’s fundraising activity would be appreciated.
