Club Update
The club remains closed as instructed by the GAA. The latest statement said:
“GAA facilities are to remain closed as part of efforts to prevent gatherings which breach the restrictions,”
“We are instructing our clubs and counties to continue to adhere to the restrictions and to refrain from organising on-field activity. These measures are expected to remain in place until July 20.
“Our units are reminded that the Player Injury scheme is suspended and will remain so until an official return to action protocol is confirmed.”
Please make note of the last paragraph. It is vital that anyone partaking in sporting activity knows the Player Injury scheme is suspended, meaning those who break the rules will not be insured.
The latest phasing measure introduced by the Government have stated that it is:
“Permitting people to engage in outdoor sporting and fitness activities, either individually or in very small groups (maximum 4 people), where social distancing can be maintained and where there is no contact”
Please keep in mind that this does not mean regular training can take place, merely that small groups can gather in public areas and partake in fitness activities.
Work Around the Club
While the measures to keep GAA clubs closed for all sporting activities have been adhered to, it does not mean the GAA club should close for some works to take place around the club. Paul Keane, longstanding member within the club, has been undertaking some major operations in the club to maintain the grounds.
Among some of the actions taken are: drilling 250,000 small holes into the pitch and sanding the entire pitch, clearing the area behind the clubhouse and the changing rooms of all shrubbery, keeping the pitch in immaculate condition with constant cutting and various other bits of work. Trojan stuff! The Club Executive would like to extend a huge thank you to both Paul and Peter Morley for the work that they have put in. I for one cannot wait to get back to the club!
Hurl For Hope
Jack Kennedy from our U14 panel took part in the amazing #HurlForHope this past weekend with the Dublin squads from U14, U15, 16, Minor, U20 and Senior Hurling in an attempt to strike 500,000 sliotars in aid of Pieta House. In an astonishing feat, they managed to do it. Catch some of the action here:
Darkness Into Light
Despite the fact that this year’s official Darkness Into Light walk has been postponed until the autumn, many people marched for hope on Saturday the 9th of May. The Clontarf promenade was abuzz with people walking at an appropriate distance. A huge thank you to everyone who donated to this amazing service.

Thank You Note
This message is from Mr. Mickey McHugh, principal of O’Connell’s Primary School. “Thanks to Eoghan O’Connell, Conor Coady, Niall Doherty, Podge Morrissey, Andy Bunyan, Kevin Cagney and Colm Kennedy for giving their time to supporting O’Connell Primary School over recent weeks.
The school has pupils that are living close by in the inner city but also has pupils who travel from suburbs as far away as Kilmainham, Finglas and Malahide. Some of these pupils have their breakfast and lunch provided at school.
Under the current circumstances, packaged food is provided for these pupils and this is being delivered weekly to their homes by our club members and is being gratefully received by the pupils and their families.”
A huge thank you to all of those involved! Doing the club proud.
