Adult games

The intermediate hurlers played the final AHL4 game of the seasons against Lucan knowing that a win would guarantee the team a place in the top Five with a chance of promotion to Div 3,  Played in beautiful conditions the team started well and were comfortably in control at half time leading by six points.  The second half was a different story, Lucan tore into us and turned the game on its head and were leading by four points with ten minutes to go.

Some changes were made and the tide began to turn, the key moment was a goal from Kevin Purcell which was quickly followed by an equalising point.  We took the lead with a few mins to go and held on for a great victory.  Roll on the play-off semi-final which will definitely be away from home possibly against St Judes.  (DW)

Next Saturday, the AFL3 game v Na Fianna is at the earlier time of 5pm.  This is another vital game and support would be especially welcome.

Juvenile Games

Under 14s participate in Kilmacud 7s
It was a fantastic honour for the club to be invited to take part in the all Ireland Kilmacud 7s, Under 14 ladies last Sat. The most difficult task was the fact that only a panel of 10 could be selected as genuinely all 25 girls on the U14 panel have made a massive effort throughout the year. After much agonising the following 10 were selected Aoife McGrath as goalkeeper, Sarah Keohane, Caelinn Ni Bhroinn and Ciara Morgan as backs; Eirinn Heery, Martha Clarke and Aisling Horan for midfield; Caoimhe de Buitlear, Hannah Leahy and Lily Kavanagh as forwards.  Although we ultimately exited the competition at the quarter final stages of the plate competition, the girls are to be massively commended for the tremendous effort they put in. Yes we came up against different teams from different counties and the speed of the 7s competition took them a little while to adjust to, yet however the experience and knowledge gained is of massive benefit. They exited the 7s in sweltering heat with their heads held high.  To see the Scoil jersey competing as equals against the illustrious clubs of the entire country was a source of great pride to all. Well done girls and to all the players, managers, coaches and supporters!  (PK)

Under 9s
Fantastic morning for the Under 9 Blitz in Clontarf on Saturday morning when we welcomed Raheny and Beann Eadair to the Club.  As always, this group of mentors and parents, led by Finbarr Meagher, had everything from parking to pitches and performances organised to the highest standard.  Well done to all who took part and special mention for the Under 9 A team who beat all comers in their 3 games including the opponents A teams.  Everyone was delighted with their medals and treats after the games.

Under 11 Girls
Our under 11 girls played their best game ever last Wednesday night when they took on neighbours St. Vincent’s.   In this most sporting of encounters they played their hearts out as a real team. Every single girl passed the ball to whoever was in a better position. They obeyed the rules they had learned in training playing wide balls along the wing and into the corners.  Paul Keane was delighted to see them following his instructions. Scoil were leading at half time but then Vincent’s started a comeback that really put it up to us. Our forwards, though, with great unselfishness helped each other to create the scores we needed to come out clear winners. The backs tackled and defended with ferocity while those playing in the centre of the field ensured our forwards got the necessary ammunition to score. It says a lot about the spirit of this team that, despite work pressure, all the mentors were there to encourage the girls. The parents, as usual, were there to give their support too as they do every game.  It was a well-deserved victory and the match flowed thanks to referee Craig from Trinity Gaels.  Considering that many of the girls had played school games that afternoon and that they had all turned up for training the night before it was a great performance, Up Scoil  (NC)

Under 13 Boys Scoil 5-11 Ballyboden B 5-8
Last Saturday on a beautiful sunny day in St Anne’s, a full strength Scoil U13 panel faced their 3rd last league match of the season, a win would likely secure their place in Division 5 for 2015.  This was always going to be quite a battle as both team were on form and both had a very vocal group of supporters.  After a competitive first half the score stood at 4-4 to 3-3 in Boden’s favour.  Following some very contentious “Square Ball” decisions, Scoil decided to put Club President Dick Murphy (who had kindly called in on his way to Croker) on the goal line to keep matters in check.  As the second half started, Scoil began to edge ahead with 2 goals and a succession of quick points, then Boden fought back. Every ball was hard fought for – resulting in 2 soft yellow cards for Scoil (a first for this team) which demonstrated the determination displayed on the day.  Eventually, after a nervous free kick in the last 5 minutes, Scoil finished as deserving victors with a final score of 5-11 to 5-8.   Great performances from all but in particular from Jack Kelly, Donal McKay, Ben Corry, Fionn McCluskey (U-12) and Adam Nolan in goal.  In all, a great display from all the lads who showed what they are capable of when we all work together as a team.  Special thanks to Killian O’Connell who is now assisting out-going manager Shay McAweeney .  Finally welcome back to Michael Seery and in particular Robert Dimitri who literally “shone” on the pitch.  Next up Sylvesters away, bring it on!!!
