Senior Hurlers get off to Winning Start

Our Adult Hurlers took on St. Finbarr’s in the first round of AHL2 this past weekend, getting off to a winning start in our league campaign.

The scoreline finished 2-16 to 0-16, however the scoreline does not reflect the full story. After an inspection, our home pitch was deemed unplayable, meaning we had to play away from home on St. Brendan’s pitch. Despite the inclement weather conditions the previous night, the pitch was in great condition.

Despite the relatively nice conditions for hurling, Scoil got off to a slow start. There were many frees given away in scoreable positions, which Finbarr’s took advantage of. The scoreline at half time was 0-09 to 0-04 to Finbarr’s.

After some words of wisdom from birthday boy and manager Matt Cushen, Scoil kicked into gear in the second half. Alastar Cassidy proved to be an inspired substitution as he worked doggedly in the middle of the park, without needing a hurl for most of the game. Eoghan McKay supplied the team with the first goal before Alan Cronin, all the way from corner back, scored a goal any forward would have been proud of. He gathered the ball in the full back line, glided past 3 players into the middle of the park and delivered a 60 yard rasper which the opposition goalkeeper could not handle, due to the force of the shot. He was noted after the game as saying “I purposely put the ball at the same height as the sun, knowing the keeper wouldn’t catch it.” What a player.

Some crucial scores were added by Barry Cushen and Robbie Kennedy, after the Scoil backs kept Finbarr’s scoreless for the final 10 minutes, to begin our AHL2 campaign with a win.

Final score: Scoil 2-16 Finbarr’s 0-16

Adult Footballers Begin Campaign (hopefully)

Our adult footballers begin their AFL2 campaign this weekend after many league games were called off two weekends ago. We will face off against Naomh Olaf on Scoil’s main pitch this Sunday the 1st of March at 10.30am. Huge support expected!

Keep an eye on social media for updates… fingers crossed the game will go ahead!

Naoise Off to Namibia

A final reminder that Adult Ladies Footballer Naoise Ní Bhroin will be having a pub quiz on the 14th March in the club in aid of her trip to Namibia. The night begins at 8.00pm and is €10 per head!

For those of you who don’t know, Naoise is flying to Namibia on the 31st March and volunteering with a charitable organisation for three months. She will be working with orphans and disadvantaged children in the area teaching English and PE. O’Neills has given her a generous donation of equipment to coach Gaelic Football at the orphanages.

Naoise’s go fund me page can be found here -> http://gf.me/u/xccpvp

Support from the club would be greatly appreciated.

Team News

Under 13’s: Scoil (8-5) v St Marys Saggart (6-5)

U13 Panel beginning to resemble a Casualty Ward..

Without the services of Diarmuid (broken shoulder), Niall (broken elbow), Conall (sick), we had to throw together a patched up Team which included the walking or limping wounded of Conor, Oran & Adam.

We were lucky to be able to call up the services of x2 U12 players (Eoin Og & Cillian) which was just as well as we lost not one but two keepers on the day.

Extremely entertaining game which we managed to shade in the end and delighted for Cillian (U12) who grabbed his goal near the end which gave us a bit if breathing space…
Some fantastic scores today from the lads with the pick of the bunch from Fionn D.

Given the amount of injuries we had, it afforded Finn, James, Tadhg (T2) & Jack more game time which we hope pushes them on for more.

Well done lads as we were expecting a tough game, which it was.

A big thanks to those lads who stayed behind to play a second game for U14 Team straight after also (Adam/Alan/ Alex /Addi/Fahad)

Regards Jp / Liam / Ronan
