75th Anniversary

As many of you know, our Club was founded in 1950 so we will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of this event in 2025. It’s never too early to start planning for a special event! As part of this celebration, the Executive has agreed to commission the drafting, editing and publication of a book with publisher HERO BOOKS.

A Scoil working committee has met with the publisher and set out an ambitious project management schedule for the remaining months of 2023 and into 2024 to ensure the book is ready, in print, and available for purchase from late 2024.

Darren Benham (Scoil member and senior hurling mentor) will be leading this project and is seeking to engage with volunteers who would be keen to take part in this process.

Key tasks include: transcribing previous Scoil commemorative books onto Word, drafting interviews with Scoil “legends”, newspaper and other media articles curation, copy editing and much more! This would be an interesting task for all ages and an opportunity to take part in a short term project over the course of the next 6/9 months.

If you are interested, please contact Darren at: djbacc@gmail.com for more information.

Club Games Promotions Officer (GPO)

As you may be aware, our current GPO Thomas Gleeson has moved back to his home Club Naomh Fionnbarra. The Club would like to thank Thomas for the huge impact he has had on our juvenile section over the past 8 years. We wish him all the very best in the future. Go raibh maith agat Tomás.

We welcome Aimee Clarke as our new GPO. Aimee works as a GAA coach on behalf of the Club in our affiliated schools as well as the Nursery on Saturday morning and supports our coaches and player development. We look forward to working with Aimee on all things Scoil.

Adult Games

We’re getting to the latter stages of the championship in all adult codes and there are some important games for Club teams this week

Adult Ladies – Man O War v Scoil, Friday 29 September at 7.15pm in Man O War

Our adult ladies are through to the semi final of the Junior A championship which takes place tonight (Friday 29 Sept). The ladies had an excellent win v Clontarf in the final game of the ’round robin’ series to finish in second place in their group. Some great scores and strong defending saw Scoil run out winners 3-11 to 0-5. The win set up the semi final which was due to be played on Wednesday but postponed due to Storm Agnes. All support very welcome!

Adult Hurling – Scoil v St Sylvesters, Sat 30 September at 4.45pm in Clontarf.

Our adult hurlers have a  critical game tomorrow (Sat) in Clontarf in the senior hurling championship. While the team started with a win v O’Tooles, the other results in the ’round robin’ games led to the relegation playoff. The relegation playoff v St Sylvesters throws in at the earlier time of 4.45pm and a good turnout from Scoil members and friends would be greatly appreciated.

Adult football – Clann Mhuire v Scoil, Saturday 7 October at 4pm, Balgriffin (neutral venue)

The intermediate quarter final v St Margarets took place in Clontarf last Saturday. A good win for the lads in a competitive game of football. Key scorers for Scoil included Emmet Rogan 2-6, Evan Doyle 1-0 and Rob Kennedy 0-2. We sent our best wishes to the St Margaret’s player who was injured in ‘added time’ and was treated by our Club Physio Ciara, Dublin Fire Brigade and the ambulance crew. Thankfully he was able to walk into the ambulance and the game concluded with a Scoil win.

The win sees Scoil drawn to play Clann Mhuire in the County semi final in Balgriffin on Saturday 7 October. All support very welcome!

Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy

The Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy is back and in action every Saturday from 10am. Our academy is for all children from 3 years of age. There’s always a great atmosphere in the Club with young members, coaches and parents all enjoying the fun and games.

Watch out for the Club MFC shop link on social media / WhatsApp and our Club website www.scoil.dublin.gaa.ie.

Pitchside Advertising

Most of you will have seen the advertising signs on the walls facing our pitch. We are very appreciative to all the organisations who have supported us through sponsorship of signs. They are a great way to support our club and the local community.

We want more organisations to take advantage of a great opportunity to be part of the wider Scoil Uí Chonaill family.

We want to expand our pitchside signage. It provides great brand exposure, helps to build lasting relationships with the local community, and provides organisations with new opportunities to connect with potential partners and collaborators. It provides the club with funds to support running the club and developing our facilities.

So, what can you, our members do to help

  • If you own your own business and would like to promote your brand and support Scoil let us know
  • Ask your employer if they would be like to support us by sponsoring a sign
  • Ask friends/family members who have their own business if they would like to promote their brand and support a great club.

Information and costs can be found here Pitch side advertising details

Gaelic4Mothers & Others

Scoil Sirens, run under the LGFA ‘Gaelic for Mothers & Others’ initiative, was formed in 2017, here in Scoil Uí Chonaill.

The team took park in the annual National Ladies Gaelic
Football Blitz in St Sylvesters / Naomh Mearnog on 14 September. A big thank you to our hosts Naomh Mearnog for their hospitality on the day. From the warm up before the Blitz began to the apres games swim in The Baths and the post Blitz wind down in the Clubhouse a great day was had by all.

Looking forward to next year already!

Scoil on Tour

Great to see our Under 8 / 9 Girls on tour to Passage West in September. Well done to the Coaches for organising this trip and thanks to our hosts for looking after the girls.

This weeks Fixtures:

Scoil Uí Chonaill Fixtures 25 Sep – 1 Oct

Notices From the Club Executive:

Club PRO

Our PRO Elaine Owens has stepped aside due to work commitments. Thank you to Elaine for all her work on behalf of the Club as PRO over the past almost 2 years. We are now seeking a new PRO and anyone interested should contact a member of the Executive.

Taking care of the pitch

A reminder that all ‘stand alone’ goalposts must be returned to the storage area at Castle Avenue. Recent storms broke one set of posts. This also helps to ensure that the pitch is clear for grass cutting which takes places on Monday Morning.

Also, where possible, please train off the main pitch and out of the goalmouths as much as possible to protect pitch.

Lighting upgrades

The lights for training and the car park areas in Clontarf have recently been upgraded with LED bulbs. This is part of the continuous programme of improvement of our playing / training facilities.

Trad Sessions

Family Trad Session

The next Family Trad Session is scheduled for 6 October, 7-8pm. All members are welcome.

Adult Trad Session

The Adult Trad Session date for October will be confirmed on our social media sites.

Club House Bar

Our Club House Bar is opened every Thursday evening from 9pm – all are welcome.

Our Club House Bar is also available to book for Private Events.
