U16’s Reach Championship Final
The following report comes from the U16 ladies management team of Paul Keane and Niamh Crowe about their phenomenal achievement:
Under 16 girls v Fingal Ravens 13-10-2019.
The mud fields of Flanders had nothing on the grounds of Fingal Ravens on Sunday. Our under 16 girls ably abetted by four under 14’s knew they were in for a hard game as the opposition had only lost one game in the last two years. Right from the beginning Ravens went on the attack and scored the first point within minutes but after that it was tooth and nail all the way with both teams continually scoring until at half time it was Scoil 2.7. to Ravens 3.3. This game had it all. We had two goals disallowed and two girls black carded something that had never happened our girls before . Even with only thirteen players we were putting it up to Ravens. On the plus side Isabelle made a wonderful save when Ravens were allowed a penalty. The parents were thrilled with the performance of our girls as they battled and battled. Liadan, Sofia and Amelia blocked ball after ball. Siobhan was dogged in defence as was Jody. Eve was determined that nobody was going to get her ball. Siofra caught some great balls. Abby was unbelievable cutting through the opposition to score and Reailtin was a great asset to the team weaving her way here and there. Siorcha was her usual cool self and the government should have Pola on the Brexit negotiations because nobody was going to better her. Sadhbh M anticipated every dropping ball and Sadhbh Nic P and Meadhbh played their usual cool brand of football. Caoimhe did what she does best and got on the board for her goals and Holly got a necessary and inspiring point. It was great to see Aoibheann back in action even for a short while and the fact that we had subs made all the difference as Paul could make changes as necessary. Towards the end of the game the mentors were almost voiceless and we were winning by four points until Ravens got a goal and so the atmosphere grew even more tense, Two inspired goals by Scoil in the last few minutes sealed the victory and we won by seven points. UP Scoil.
Scoil 7.6 Ravens 2.12
Final to be confirmed.
U12 League Champs
Congratulations to the U12 team who were crowned Div. 6 champions last week with a game to spare! The following message is from JP Courtney. (JP is reportedly fuming that the Senior team won the Hurling Championship. He was sure he had manager of the year sewn up!)
Scoil Uí Chonaill U12 Hurling Match Report;
Scoil (6-5) v Na Fianna (3-7)
DIV 6 League Champions (with game to spare)
Well done Lads – As they say it’s a marathon not a sprint. Most of the lads were a bit leggy today after their respective School Semi final matches but some late scores saw Scoil over the line against a skilful Na Fianna Team.
A lot of work put in over the years with this bunch so delighted for myself, Liam & Ronan and especially the boys, that their efforts have reaped rewards – Well done to all.
Attention now turns to Away Football v Judes next Saturday.
Team Updates
Some of our younger members got to meet players from the Senior Hurling team who presented them with the cup on Monday night. The players, Barry, Joey and Eoin, spoke about the hard work they put in to achieve their goal. Doing the basics right and working hard were some of the messages passed on! Barry is said to have claimed the phrase “clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” as his own.
