Championship Final
The Senior Hurlers have made it to the Senior B Championship Final.
Our adult hurlers have had a topsy-turvy season to say the least. Having lost the opening 5 league games of the season, we managed to overcome the adversity and finish strongly in the league. We stayed undefeated in the league and championship from the end of June.
With league status in Division 2 secured for next year, attentions turned to the championship. Despite only winning one group game (two if we are counting the walkover conceded by St. Pat’s), the wins have come when it mattered most. Facing Kilmacud Crokes in a quarter final in Silver Park, we battled to victory and were 6 point victors with a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-11.
Following that game we played Na Fianna, who had beaten a very strong Naomh Barrog outfit in the other quarter final. Again, our dogged determination saw us come out on top with a scoreline of 1-17 to 1-11. This secured Senior A status for the hurlers for the first time in the club’s history.
We will face Thomas Davis this Saturday 5th of October in Parnell Park. Throw in is at 5pm. A huge Scoil support is expected for what will hopefully be a day for the ages!
Scoil Gear
The latest batch of Scoil gear has arrived and is ready for collection. Alva Cushen will be in the clubhouse over the coming week to hand gear out to those that ordered. Keep an eye on social media and emails for days and times when for collection!
Team Updates
U16 Girls: This was a game that brought with it mixed emotions. It was full of scores and it has to be said, misses, on both sides. Our injury hit team was made even worse hit when Caoimhe had to leave early on owing to illness. We were lucky to be supplemented by three girls from the under 14’s who made a huge difference to the team. Abby O Brien took on the responsibility for goal scoring brilliantly while Sorcha and Pola both played their hearts out. Whitehall seemed stronger at first but in the second half we started to make a strong recovery. In fact, about seven minutes before the end, we were actually leading much to the delight of the Scoil supporters. Unfortunately however, Whitehall slammed in a late goal and a point to end up four points ahead when the whistle blew. Nonetheless it was a great performance from our girls against a very strong and physical team and we wish the injured players a speedy recovery and of course best wishes to Caoimhe too.
The final Score was Scoil 4-4 Whitehall 3-11.
U12 Hurlers: SCOIL Ui Chonaill – U12 Hurling Update:
Bray Emmetts (3-3) v Scoil (2-10)
Extremely hard fought Away Win today in very breezy conditions.
Home Team led for majority of the game as they showed hungrier desire for Sliothar, until a moment of madness in 2nd half saw one of their players receive a straight red card for smack of hurl across the back of Alex, after a robust shoulder challenge.
Scoil could have followed suit, shortly after but luckily managed only a yellow.
Calum B came on and his added steel up front definitely knocked Bray off their stride.
Scoil boys have definitely played better and lack of intensity nearly cost them this afternoon.
Thankfully we pulled off the win with some late scores and long range goal from Conall.
Nice to reverse one of our lads losses from previous trip to Wicklow though
Lads managed to find time after to send best wishes to Senior Hurlers ahead of their up coming Final (keep eye out for it)…..
Roll on next week.
Up Scoil
U10 Girls:
Scoil under 10 Girls went south last Saturday and travelled to one of the largest underage blitzes in the country, the Passage West Ladies Football Blitz. It certainly lives up to its name ‘Mini Feile’ with 160 teams from 16 counties, 2,500 players and 5,000 attendees it was an amazing event. The organisation involved ensured a very smooth running from start to finish and was a credit to everyone. The trip involved a very early start but all players and parents rose to the challenge. Thanks to everyone who travelled and especially Una who really was a great help on the day to the coaches.
Scoil girls played 4 games and were fantastic from the start. There was 4 cracking games against Arravale Rovers from Tipperary, Milltown Malbay from Clare and Inch Rovers and Clonakilty from Cork. The girls learnt a lot about different styles of football as well as how different blitz football is from their regular games.
The trip had many highlights on the day. Meeting the All Ireland winning Cork Ladies Minor teams, the event Disco and Face painting as well as the ice cream and McDonalds on the way home. In fact one girl said it wasn’t a football blitz, it was a fun blitz. Considering the girls didn’t concede any score in 2 games and scored goals and points from near and far on the pitch, it certainly was a success on all fronts. All the girls were credit to the club and other coaches were full of praise for their style of football.
This was a first trip of this kind for this group and it certainly won’t be last time that a Scoil team go to this blitz so watch this space for 2020.
