Scoil Gear
The Scoil Adidas gear has gone back up for sale on the club’s online shop which can be found here. This link will be active until next Wednesday 10th of July so be sure to get your orders in to avoid disappointment.
Alva Cushen and Joey Ryan will be looking after new gear over the next couple of months so keep an eye on the newsletter and social media for that.
Cúl Camps
The Scoil Uí Chonaill Cúl Camps are well underway and it has been a rousing success thus far. In it’s thirtieth year since the summer camps began, Scoil has seen the largest uptake in kids in the camp to date. Over 160 children are taking part in this week’s camp, with numbers set to increase for next week. Thank you to everyone who is working at the camps this week, particularly our GPO Thomas Gleeson who has worked tirelessly in the organisation. Let’s hope the weather stays this way!
Senior Hurlers
Our senior hurlers won for the second time in a row against St. Sylvester’s in the league on Saturday evening. In a game which can be defined as a 4 pointer, both teams were out to prove something as the fight to stay in Division 2 heats up.
From the outset of the game, Scoil were on top. Early scores from Robbie Kennedy and Joey Ryan set Scoil on a steady path. It was tit-for-tat up until Ruairi Coady fired home a goal from close range. Joey Ryan added another 2-1 from play as Robbie Kennedy kept his impeccable form up on the frees. Shane Sheridan and Eoghan McKay scored to leave the score at 3-5 to 0-05 at half time.
Sylvester’s started the second half strong, however, and scored 1-3 quickly to close the gap. Scoil persevered and had some inspired defending from Cathal Hardy, Barry Cushen and Kevin Farrell to keep the game close. Conor Coady caught a high ball in the second half which rallied both players and sideline. Jason Redmond won a multitude of frees in the second half, as did Neil O’Flynn, to help keep the scoreline ticking over.
Despite another goal going in, Scoil held on and proved that they can match anyone in this division. This result leaves them 4 places off the bottom, with two big games coming up soon. Up Scoil!
Ladies Football
Scoil Uí Chonaill 6-14 Blessington 2-8
The Ladies A team produced their best performance in a long time, with a comprehensive win against Wicklow side Blessington in Alfie Byrne Rd. It was an important win because the game was a League and Cup double header. Blessington, like St Pats, are allowed compete in the Dublin league and while they are not as formidable as that team, they had posted a number of good performances this year.
Scoil, with just 2 players in the inside forward line, got off to the usual good start and went into a 3 point lead before Molly Power scored a fine solo goal. The wide open spaces of Alfie Byrne suited the game plan and Tara Kennedy in particular, revelled in the extra space. She finished with a personal tally of 3-2 plus a number of assists.
The half time score was 3-7 to 0-3. Johnny’s only words at the team talk was to stick to the game plan and to double the score. Both objectives were achieved with ease.
In such a high scoring game, there were many fine scores. The highlight was probably a brilliant solo effort from Sadhbh Murphy who picked up the ball in the Scoil half and left several opposition players trailing in her wake, before coolly clipping the ball over the bar. Caoimhe Ni Bhroin who had made her comeback for the B team after a number of years out, was fast tracked onto the team and she maintained the family tradition with a fine second half display.
This was a very fine team performance and when word filtered through that the men`s team had beaten Round Towers, it was a very satisfying evening for the club. The players and mentors would like to thank Mossie and Tiarnan and the club executive for securing Alfie Byrne Rd for this game due to the clash with the men’s match.
Velo-City
Thank you to those who volunteered at last week’s Velo-City event on the Alfie Byrne Road. The event was to showcase the beauty of the coastline between the Alfie Byrne Road and the UNESCO site at St. Anne’s Park. Scoil were extremely well represented and made a huge impression on the event.
Scoil U9’s
Scoil under 9s brought the curtain down on the first half of their season with a Camogie blitz in Fingallians in Swords on Sunday last.
Sunday’s blitz started with 2 matches against Castleknock teams and concluded with a game against Fingallians. In a break from the norm, Scoil were straight out of the blocks and were well on top throughout. The only thing was that we weren’t able to convert our possession with the goalpost being struck on least 5 occasions! The high standards continued for the next 2 games and despite the warm weather they never lower their work rate. Thanks to Fingallians to hosting and for organising some post match treats.
Despite only being together a short time, this team has shown great skills and determination against all the 15 teams they have played in the 4 months so far. Having started with a friendly against Beann Eadair, the team has shown their ability against some of the stronger girls clubs in Dublin, including Kilmacud, Clontarf, Faughs and Skerries.
Thanks to everyone, players and parents for their commitment so far this year. Despite being ‘probably’ the most travelled team in Scoil with regular trips to south county Dublin and the most active players, with some playing 3 times at weekends, it has been a great to see everyone developing so far as well as having plenty of fun!!!
We are taking a break from regular training for July and we will return to training in August. In the meantime remember the Monday matches in Scoil at 7pm every Monday evening for boys and girls from under 7s to 9s.
With a great turn out of Scoil players, we had to the great opportunity to rotate players and give everyone game time. Eleni in the forwards took some great scores and was a sight to watch as she weaved her way past the opposition, whilethe two Sarah’s did a great job marshalling the defence. Alex, Oral and Aisling were excellent throughout and Roisin, like her sister on Saturday, set up some great plays from her clever kick outs. As is now usual Emily ran the show from midfield and hada great battle with an excellent player from the opposition throughout. Alannah, Ciana and Roisin Ni D played their part in a great team display and it great to see this team continue to develop. Many thanks for the opposition for agreeing to play earlierthan scheduled to allow some of the Scoil players attend school sports.
