Féile Heroes

Commiserations to the Girls Féile team who were knocked out of the competition at the semi-final stage last weekend. The girls played their hearts out in every match and had the amazing achievement of finishing first in their group. They were very unfortunate to not win the semi-final, in a fiercely competitive match.

It has been a fantastic year for all of our Féile teams. Congratulations to everyone who was involved over the weekend and throughout the year. Up Scoil!

Team News

Adult Ladies: Scoil ui Chonaill 3-12  St Peregrines 5-11

A narrow defeat for the A team in their second round robin championship game. Nevertheless it was a massive improvement on the previous week`s performance and with a little luck, the result could have been reversed. The game had to be switched at a late stage to 13 St Annes to facilitate the Senior Hurlers championship game in Clontarf Rd.

The switch to the narrower St Annes pitch was always likely to produce a high scoring game and St Peregrines dominated the early exchanges. A fine team goal finished by Kathy Delaney and some accurate frees from Sinead de Burca kept Scoil in touch. At the start of the second half, 3 Scoil points in a row meant “game on”but St Peregrines replied with a goal. This was the pattern of the game as whenever the scores got close, Peregrines broke up the pitch to score vital goals.

Another fine passing move started from goal by Izzie Dillon, found live wire forward Tara Kennedy in the clear. Tara drew the the goalkeeper and unselfishly passed to Sophie Gibney to finish with a goal. In the last 10 minutes Scoil laid siege to the opposition goal. They were awarded a blatant penalty and Tara, who was causing all kinds of problems to the Peregrines defence stepped up to take it. In spite of being surrounded by the opposition who were giving her plenty of advice “where to stick it”, Tara coolly slotted it home. Two good points from Sadhbh Murphy and Lucy Murphy gave hope of an upset but time ran out.

A very encouraging performance for the rest of the season.

Erins Isles B 5-12  Scoil B 1-9

The B teams good run came to an end with defeat in Finglas. The team were short many players due to exams and work commitments and the opposition agreed to play 13 a side.

The scoreline does not do the team justice as they were competitive for most of the game but Isles were able to use their ample supply of substitutes throughout the game.

No game for the B team this week

U16/17 Girls:

Under 16/17 Scoil v Ballyboughal.

This game ended in a three point win for Ballyboughal. The girls were hugely disappointed but the mentors were absolutely delighted with the performance they put up. They played their hearts out from the minute Caoimhe slotted in the first point. It was score after score for both teams and our backs were absolutely rock like in their defending forcing Ballyboughal to get lots of wides. One huge improvement in our play was the way the girls played as a team passing the ball to each other and there were some superb catches. At half time we were leading 3.3. to their 8 points. The opposition scored the first point in the second half but Siofra slotted in an answering point and for three quarters of the second half we were still leading but just before the end Ballyboughal drove in a goal that made them winners. Hard luck on the girls but a huge improvement in their performance.

Next game final under 16  league match v Beann Eadair Sunday 26th meeting at 3.45.

U12 Boys: SUC 7-11 v Tarf 0-1.

U12 HURLERS played their 1st Official Hurling League game today against our near neighbours – Clontarf.

Must be said both teams were hampered due to players missing (Gaeltacht / Birthdays / Communions/ School entrance exams etc).

In fact, Scoil were missing their regular back line today with Alex, Diarmuid and Tadhg on Gaeltacht duty with Fahad and Tadhg 2 no shows today.

Despite same, Scoil lads took off from the very first minute and never let up!

Scores were flying in from all angles and to be honest I couldn’t keep track of the various scorers on the day (Adam, Alan, Fionn, Oran, Niall, Conall, Aurelien and Jack to name a few).

There genuinely were some fantastic passages of play & performances today but Oran was definitely my Man of Match – assured as always.
While the scores were numerous I have to single out Jack’s score late on, when he came out of goal – It was pure class

We’ll done lads today – Great Win / Team Performance / Roll on next game.

U11 Boys:

Well done on Saturday we finally got a hurling win against Wanderers in the Dublin mountains with Richard as captain. Despite having to give the other team two players for the game we had a narrow win. Thanks to Eoghan Og Paddy Calum and Ruairi for playing for the other team and not holding back on their game. Paddy banged over plenty of scores for the other team. However man of the match has to go to Luke who put in a storming performance scoring 3 goals and a point despite an injury before half time. Well done all.

U9 Boys:

Our under 9 teams were much depleted with Communions again this week and a special thanks to foireann Cormac and Sean for lending us Conail, Aibhilín, Bláthaín and Emily without whom we could  not have played let alone won both games in Swords on Saturday. The girls played a pivotal role in the victory of their team. Long puck outs from Aibhilín and great fielding by Emily and Bláthín made them a vital cog for us. With Oisin, Faolán, Jack , Callum and Fionnán primed for action after their midweek clash with O Tooles, we were always going to prevail. Man of the match title went to Fionnán for his following the game plan and letting the opposition away with nothing.

Wonderful team performance on Saturday against physical team. Sean , Jake and Noah a constant threat because they choose to pass instead of shooting from distance allowing team mates easy scores. Opposition tried to rattle us. Sean was fouled and instead of retaliation he composed himself for a lovely score. Caleb and Connell in defense stuck tight to opposition so they never really got on top of us. Cian in Goal took a while to find his range with puc outs but improved and finished strong. All players played til the end,  very strong finish to win. Great team performance with Noah man of the match.

U9 Girls: Scoil under 9s took on neighbours Clontarf in St. Anne’s Park on Sunday last. The team played 4 matches against 4 different Clontarf teams over the hour.
After a slow start playing against an extra player, Scoil turned on the style with great points and goals. Such was the range of skills on show that Clontarf mentor questioned if it was ok to hand pass over the bar!
Clontarf started to keep stronger players on the pitch for the next few matches, but it didn’t faze our girls who fought for every ball and never stopped running. Everyone played brilliant causing problems for the opposition all over the pitch.
Speedy recovery to Emily, whose all in commitment resulted in a trip to A & E  a superb block.
Next up is a Camogie Blitz at Scoil on Sunday next at 10am.

Under 8’s: With first communion season still in full flow and other activities also clashing, we were low in numbers this week and Fionn from under 7s stepped in again for the under 8s. Despite an injury Fionn played a full part in the two hurling matches against Sylvesters in Malahide. Senan made some great saves for Scoil in goals.  Liam also showed great skill in his puck outside from goals. The matches were all low scoring which showed the determination from both teams to block any chances. There was good marking of the Sylvester boys from Scoil boys from the three teams. Orla and Aisling helped with putting scores on the board for Scoil while Roisin had some great strikes and was able to fight off some tackles from the opposition.

Nursery: We had great turnout for the Nursery and U7s last Saturday. The blues worked hard on their football and hurling skills. It would be great if the kids did some practice at home on their hurling striking!
The green and yellows worked on their football and hurling skills. The coaches were really impressed with the effort the kids made.
Please support our Cake Sale this weekend!!
Well done to players of the week.

Celebrating Minor Heroes

Scoil will be celebrating the amazing achievements of the Minor teams of the 60’s where the club won five minor championship titles and an under 21 title in a seven year period!

Not many members of the Club will be aware of the Scoil glory days when the Club  contested six Minor Championship Finals in eight years and won FIVE Dublin Minor Championship titles!

The Scoil also contested and won an U21 title in that period.

To revive and relive some of the memories, some of the stars of that era are having a reunion on Friday 7th June at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse.

So get out the photos, put on the memory caps and  spread the word (50 years plus is a long time)
