Celebrating Minor Heroes

Scoil will be celebrating the amazing achievements of the Minor teams of the 60’s where the club won five minor championship titles and an under 21 title in a seven year period!

Not many members of the Club will be aware of the Scoil glory days when the Club  contested six Minor Championship Finals in eight years and won FIVE Dublin Minor Championship titles!

The Scoil also contested and won an U21 title in that period.

To revive and relive some of the memories, some of the stars of that era are having a reunion on Friday 7th June at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse.

So get out the photos, put on the memory caps and  spread the word (50 years plus is a long time)

Main contact points are: Robbie Kelleher(086 2583796), Barry Kenna (087 4196789), Bernie O Sullivan (086 0688101) and Gerry Rowley  (087 6287395)

Team News

A quiet week for most as it was the Easter weekend, however there is still some team news!

Adult Ladies: Scoil Uí Chonaill  2-15  Ballyboughal 6- 15

As the scoreline suggests, this was a Cup game where defences were definitely not on top. Nevertheless it was a fine advert for adult ladies football as there were plenty of marvellous scores by both teams.

Scoil could not have gotten off to a worse start, with Ballyboughal scoring goals on their first 2 attacks. It looked like it was going to to be a long night for the Scoil players but they got back into the game with some fine points. A sweeping move from out of defence found centre back, Kathy Delaney in front of the opposing goal and she side footed the ball home. Unfortunately Ballyboughal scored another goal shortly afterwards to dampen any hope of a comeback.

In spite of being behind, the Scoil players continued to work hard and to run at the Ballyboughal defence. The Ni Bhroin sisters, in particular, continued to cause problems.  They were unlucky not to score a couple of goals but were thwarted by the upright and excellent saves from the opposition goalie. Another long run from out of defence, this time by corner back Jane Brooder created a goal chance for Sinead de Burca. While there was still some work to be done, Sinead coolly slotted the ball into the corner.

Despite being tightly marked, Sinead scored 1-8 and was always an attacking outlet. The Scoil backline defended stoutly throughout with Nicole Rock and Molly Power bas solid as ever. However, the star of the show  was under 16 player, Sadhbh Murphy, who was making her adult competitive debut. She never put a foot wrong and her distribution was second to none.

On the same evening, the adult B team played their first competitive game of the season and were defeated away to Oliver Plunketts.

In the midst of the Easter school holidays, both teams were  each missing at least 8 adult players plus their managers. Our thanks go out to all the under 16/17 players who lined out and hopefully will have roles to play for the adult teams throughout the summer.
