Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy

Our Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy concluded for the summer on Saturday, 25 June. Scoil Hoppers will recommence on Saturday, 03 September at 10am.

What a great year it has been – week in week out, our young members came to the club and had great fun while learning new skills. All of this would not have been possible without the commitment and continued support of all of our volunteers.

Daria Chapman has been the familiar face on Saturday mornings but sadly, her time has come to an end. She will be greatly missed but her legacy will continue. On Saturday, Thomas presented Daria with a token of the clubs appreciation for all she has done over the last number of of years.

Deirdre, Christine and Roisin were also thanked and recognized for all their hard work to ensure that Saturday mornings run smoothly and are enjoyable for all the children.

Not forgetting our young members, to finish for the summer, ice pops were given to them to thank them for being part of the Scoil Family, which went down a treat.

Enjoy the well earned break everyone and looking forward to seeing you all in September.

Ladies Teams – News

Match report – 8th June

In the last round of the group stages for the cup, after a huge win the week prior, Scoil lost out by the narrowest of margins to Whitehall. To say the game was unpredictable would be an understatement; a flurry of goals put Scoil well in the lead with 8 minutes to go in what seemed like a never ending second half. However it was in those 8 minutes, Whitehall flicked into 6th gear and secured themselves a win with a scoreline of 3-10 (Scoil) to 3-11 (Whitehall).

Scoil required a win to secure a home venue for the Cup semi final, so their position in the semi final stage remains safe. Scoil now look ahead to their upcoming championship with great excitement.

Match report – 29th June

Scoil Ladies B Team began their championship journey with a phenomenal win over Craobh Ciaran. This was the third meeting between the sides this year, with Scoil running out the victors in two out of the three games. Tenacious and ferocious work from the back six and goalkeeper kept Craobh Ciaran at bay for the most part. The scores from Scoil’s midfield and forwards started coming in thick and fast from the first minute. It was down to the new found relentless nature of Scoil that kept the margins wide, with four goals in total for the Scoil side. Two phenomenal goals for Katie, one for midfielder Sarah O’R and a goal on debut from corner back Emma.

A special mention for the three debuts for the Scoil side, with inter county transfers Emma and Laura and a senior debut for Sophie. Emma managed to not only man mark her opponent all over the pitch, but scored a goal in the process to widen the gap between the sides. Laura’s impact as wing back came with an unreserved tenacity brought with her all the way from Mayo. Sophie’s transition from underage football into a senior footballer happened in the blink of an eye, carrying through difficult situations at times and consistently taking a step up with every ball she laid a hand to.

Congratulations to our debuts and to the usual suspects on the Scoil Ladies team and management for a great start to their championship season.

Final score Scoil 4-13 Ciarans 2-5.

U16 Girls are Division 2 League Champions

The girls went the whole division 2 league campaign with a 100% winning record with a hugely impressive average win of over 20 points a game.

The girls are all looking forward to the challenge of division 1 championship and playing against the best players in the county. The standards they have set for themselves mean that they will not only look to compete in but look to continue their good form and at least qualify from their group into the semi final.

They are training hard and have seen the benefit of the strength work over the winter and have another bout underway with Conrad currently in the gym, which is helping Johnny and Paul for the ladies teams also as when the girls are needed to step up to play they are ready for the challenge.

Well done girls – the future is looking very bright indeed.

Orlaith Benham raises €670 for Laura Lynn

Congratulations to Orlaith Benham from our U14 teams for raising €670 for Laura Lynn and cutting her hair for the Rapunzel Foundation.

U7 Mini Leagues

Great week for Scoil U7s and U8s as the inaugural Scoil Summer Mini Leagues drew to a close last Thursday, 23 June. Six mixed teams of boys and girls played great football over 3 weeks.

We Need You…

We would encourage all parents to get involved with their children’s teams to ensure smooth running of training sessions and matches. This could be arriving 10 minutes before a training session to help with set up or staying 5 minutes afterwards to help clean all items away. As the saying goes. “every little helps”

With some of our parents children moving on to playing matches on a regular basis on Saturday mornings, help is required for our Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy. We encourage all of you to get involved to help in some small way.

There are many roles that you can assist with that does not involve coaching (if you are not comfortable doing coaching) – please speak to Thomas, our GPO: 085 133 7728, Ciaran, our Scoil Hoppers Lead: 087 233 3720 or any of the coaches – help is always welcome.

Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a big difference to the overall success of the club.
