Dates for the Diary

The date for the Annual AGM is set for Thursday, 17 November and will be held in the club house.

The AGM will commence at 8pm sharp and nominations for any position on the Executive must be sent to Club Secretary – secretary.scoiluichonaill.dublin@gaa.ie in advance of the AGM.

Scoil Dinner Dance and Awards Night is returning in January 2023 and has been provisionally booked for 21st January in Clontarf Castle! Mark it in the diary – always a great night and one not to be missed!

Launch of Vytal

Many of you probably have seen the Vytal’s reusable containers at the Club Grounds by Bold and Brass and they are also available in Nolan’s, Happy Out, and Olive’s Room. More partners to follow shortly!

Clontarf is leading the charge with a reuse revolution!

– Single use packaging is used once and thrown away. It’s a waste of natural resources and creates emissions.

– This planet has a 500 billion a year single use cup problem… not to mention all the other food packaging!

– We need to reduce our packaging waste – Ireland has the highest packaging waste per person in Europe, twice the EU average.

– Good recycling is half the battle, it won’t solve the problem.

– We need to move from a linear (take make waste) to a circular (keep resources in circulation) economy.

– A digital platform is needed to keep this reusable packaging in circulation.

– Can you choose to reuse? Together we can change how we consume and lead the way in the circular economy.

Use Vytal app to buy a coffee or a salad in a reusable bowl and tagging Vytal_ie to spread the word about this great initiative.

Together we can create a robust reuse system and enable Ireland’s move to a circular economy! Email hello@vytalireland.ie with any questions.

Work on the Club Grounds

As I am sure, many of you have noticed, that a huge amount of work has been done on the pitch in the club grounds.

The ongoing maintenance of the pitch was really put to the test last week with the excessive rain fall, but in spite of this rain, the grounds remained dry and looked fantastic on Saturday morning.

Over 100 tons of sand were spread on the grounds and half a million small holes were burrowed throughout. Both of these measures helped to ensure the drainage of the grounds to ensure they remaine dry and playable.

Huge kudos to Peter Morley for his ongoing work, week in, week out, to ensure the grounds are top class for all teams training and for matches. A special word of thanks also to Paul Keane who organised the work last week on the grounds. The timing couldn’t have been better – just showed how the hard work has paid off.

Well done to lads – the hard work is very much appreciated by all in the club.

Match Reports

U14 Football Division 4 Shield Semi Final.

Date & Location: 23rd October. Sean O’Moore Park.

Final Score: Scoil Uí Chonaill 7-5 Clanna Gael/Fontenoy B 4-3

A very entertaining match in Ringsend on a beautiful Sunday afternoon resulted in our girls winning their shield semi final by 11 points.

The hosts started the match the brighter but our defence held firm resulting in no scores registered for the first 10 minutes. As we grew into the game a goal from Nessa Byrne helped settle our girls as we took control of the game through our midfield of Aoibhinn Geraghty and Taiya Mc Cann. A goal from Aoibhinn Cunningham and a penalty from Andrea Chapman left us going into half time leading 3-2 to 0-3.

We started the second half slowly with Clanna Gael registering a couple of early goals to bring them back into the game. The Scoil girls showed great character to regain control of the game with three goals in quick succession. Two from Aoibhinn Cunningham and one from Andrea Chapman. In fairness to Clanna Gael they never gave up and came back with two goals of their own. One a very well taken penalty. Not long after this the referee gave Clanna Gael another penalty but this time the Scoil goalkeeper Alice Walley made a great save. With 5 minutes to go, substitute Alexandra Mc Cann (under 12 player) popped up to score a fantastic goal to make sure of the win.

The girls and all the parents were absolutely delighted with the win leaving us with a Final against local rivals Raheny in the Club on Sunday 6th November. All support would be most welcome.

Team: 1. Alice Walley. 2. Aifric Ni Riain 3. Niamh Kavanagh. 4. Danu Meehan. 5. Ciara Nic Gabhann. 6. Andrea Chapman. 7. Caragh mc Cauley. 8. Taiya Mc Cann. 9. Aoibhinn Geraghty. 10. U9 and U10 Boys

Our U9 and U10s boys played Parnells in hurling (8th Oct), Erins Isle (15th Oct) in football and their last hurling GoGame against St Vincents last Saturday – both teams put in strong performances in all the games and continue to improve.

The team will play a number of friendlies against local teams with our first game against Binn Eadair and then Parnell’s followed by our last game of the season against Craobh Ciaran.

We will then take our winter break until mid January – UP SCOIL.

Under 16 Boys Championship Quarter Final
Final Score:
Scoil Ui Chonaill 2-13
St Vincent’s 1-6

Scoil played Vincent’s away in championship quarter final with a big attendance supporting both sides in Pairc Naomh Uinsionn.

Scoil started brightly with some well worked scores to take a 0-3 to 0-0 lead. The home side came back into the game and playing with a double sweeper tied the game 0-3 to 0-3. Scoil hit a well worked team goal with a tidy finish from the very lively Alan Murphy. A further point with the left foot this time by Alan left Scoil 1-4 to 0-3 ahead. Vincent’s responded with 1-1 to leave the sides level, before a lovely Fionn Daly score left Scoil a point up at the break.

Scoil regrouped at half-time and the need to move the ball quicker was emphasised and quickly put into action with a different level of performance in the second half. Conor Maher gave a dominant display at centre back in the second half and the commanding Sean Morgan finished to the net and followed it up with some well worked points. Diarmuid Murphy made some cracking runs under real pressure while Alex Kelly who came on at the break got a cracking score.

There was a beautiful block from Conal McCartaigh with Vincent’s through on goal while Rafa was hit by a very high challenge by a frustrated Vincent’s player who didn’t get much change out of him!

The win leaves the lads with away semi-final out in Man O War on the 12th November.

Scoil:
Rory, Rafa, Conal, Cillian, Nathan, Conor, Flann, Sean (1-4), Diarmuid, Fionn (0-3), Tiernán (0-1), Liam, Alan (1-4), Addi, Alex C
Subs: Alex K (0-1) for Liam, James for Flann and Neil for Fionn

Scoil Uí Chonaill’s welcoming home is a real treasure

Scoil Uí Chonaill’s welcoming home is a real treasure – not my words, but the words of Journalist, Niall Scully!

On a recent visit to the club, Niall met with Club President, Dick Murphy and groundsman Peter Morley and he couldn’t have been in better company.

Not only did the above article appear in the Evening Herald but it also featured in the Irish Independent.

Camogie News

Many thanks to all our members who turned out to support the camogie open night.

A great discussion took place, and some brilliant ideas and support provided. We certainly have the basis of a plan for 2023 and beyond.

This will be discussed with the executive and shared with members soon.

Great win for our U14 Camogie Team

Well done to our U14 camogie team who have reached the division 4 championship final following a great semi-final win over St Marks.

The girls will play the final on Saturday 29th October at 1:30pm, pitch 22, St Anne’s Park.

All support welcome – lets all get our Scoil Colours on and down to Pitch 22!

Slán Anastasia

The U14 camogie team wish Anastasia Semenivka well for her return to Ukraine.

Anastasia spent the last number of months in Ireland, her family having fled the war at home. She took a real interest in camogie and lined out for the U14’s on several occasions.

We wish Anastasia and her family the very best for the future.

Go Games

Well done to our U8’s, U10’s and U11’s/12’s teams who took part in Go Games throughout the year.

We know the kids had great fun and enjoyed the year.

Massive thanks to all the players, parents and especially our very committed mentors. Well done all.

Scór Sinsir 2022 – Scór Átha Cliath

A fantastic day was had by all at the Dublin County Final of Scór Sinsir 2022 that was hosted by Fingallians GAA and Fear an Tí Liam Ó Culbáird.

With strong representation from northside and southside, Scoil participated in the Tráth na gCeisteanna which was won by Ranelagh Gaels, Amhránaíocht Aonair by Aoife Maguire (Adults Ladies Team) who sang brilliantly – won by Cuala and in the Ceol Uirlise with Aoife Colbert & Aoife Maguire – both put in a strong performance however once again won by Cuala.

It was a good learning curve for us and we would hope to participate in all events in 2023 and will be calling on you to partake.

Tráth na gCeisteanna: Ranelagh Gaels
