Summer Camps
As the last of our summer camps conclude, we just want to say a huge thank you to our GPO Thomas Gleeson for the coordination of each of the camps, to the coaches for making each day fun for our younger members and to everyone that made the camps possible.
The biggest shout out goes to all of our young members – they came, had fun and improved on their skills over the camps.
Well done to everyone.
Camogie News

Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy
The Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy will return on Saturday, 9th September. Our academy is for all children from 3 years of age.
We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone on 9th September.
Skerries Harps Brian Cullen tournament in memory of Oliver Moore
Scoil Under 16 lads footballers were invited to play in Skerries Harps Brian Cullen tournament in memory of Oliver Moore.
It was a very early start with 9am meet up out in skerries. Storm Barra left a few trees down on the road into skerries which caused a few delays!
The lads lined up for the parade with club flag and stood still as Amhrán na bhFiann was played and the Chairman of Skerries welcomed all the clubs attending.
Scoil’s opener was against Clan na Gael and the lads started strongly but a few mistakes left us only up by 2points after dominating the first half. Clans started the second half strongly and two quick goals left them 4points up with 6 minutes to go. Scoil put in a great last effort to win 5-6 to 6-1.
In our second game we defeated the Burren from Down by 4-6 to 0-3. It was back to the main pitch for our final group game against Fingallians, a side from Division 2 in Dublin. The lads put in a great performance and really surprised the Swords boys in a 3-3 to 2-3 win. The lads topped their group with 3 wins from 3 games.
It was time for lunch with curry and rice for the lads and tea and sambos for the supporters.
Scoil were paired with Newtown Blues, Louth county champions in the semi-final. A slow start left Scoil trailing by 1-5 to 0-2 at half time having missed a few chances. Scoil rallied in the third quarter and kicked three excellent points to leave only one score in it with 6 minutes to go but a goal by Newtown saw them through to the final. 2-7 to 0-7.
A great experience for the lads who played some brilliant football and represented the club so well on and off the pitch.
All-Ireland Club 7’s
Due to the very large number of entries into this year’s competition, our ladies were entered into the higher grade Intermediate 7’s section. Scoil & Foxrock Cabinteely both had the honour of being the highest level Dublin representatives in this years competition.
The first match was a defeat to former Senior winners, Parnell’s of London. The next two matches resulted in two very narrow defeats against Naas & Oughterard.
Our ladies improved with every match and ended the tournment with an excellent win against St. Peter’s of Armagh. The ladies did themselves and the club very proud against high level opposition.
Many thanks to Naomh Mearnog and LGFA for hosting such a great event.
Finally we want to wish Robbie, our Physio for the past year, all the very best as he heads to Canada for a few years. He is a brilliant physio and will be missed by all the players.
Gaelic4Mothers & Others
Scoil Sirens, run under the LGFA ‘Gaelic for Mothers & Others’ initiative, was formed in 2017, here in Scoil Uí Chonaill.
This team are are seeking coaching assistance from September 2023.
This hardy bunch of Ladies who range from our 20’s-60’s are seeking a new ‘Craic Dealer’ who can commit to the team for 1 night per week and occasional Match days.
The Sirens team has been the launchpad for some players for the Senior Ladies team and on occasion the highest grossing team for Bar Tabs in Scoil! They are a great bunch of ladies with lots of laughs and will be sure to give you plenty of laughs on a weekly basis….
So if you’re curious what coaching this bunch of ladies might entail and are up for a challenge with plenty of fun, we’d love to hear from you – Mairead is waiting for your call…

Our Young Adult Coaches
We are very fortunate to have a number of our young adult players that come along each Saturday morning to coach our young players in our Scoil Hoppers GAA Academy and our Scoil Stars. We all look forward to seeing their familiar faces each week but not know a lot about them. I caught up with them to find out a little more about them.
Luke Murphy
Position: Goalkeeper
Biggest influence: Watching my dad play in goal as a young kid made me want to follow in his footsteps and make him proud.
Earliest memory: My earliest memory that I can remember has to be playing hurling with my brothers with some hurls that were probably bigger than us at the time and I think that was around 11 years ago
Most memorable achievement: Winning our football Féile in Parnell Park and being captain of that amazing bunch of lads
Advice: Support your teammates no matter what because they will be like family to you in years to come
Sporting hero: Watching Stephen Cluxton play – made me believe anything was possible with him pulling out incredible saves at the age of 37.
Pre match ritual: I practice diving before the game in the mud in the goalmouth so then I can be ready for the game to come.
How did you get involved in Scoil Hoppers: I’ve always had an interest in coaching and I think the O’Connells Nursery is the best nursery in Dublin, by helping younger kids fall in love with the sport and the club like myself – it is the best thing going.
Alex Courtney
Position: Wing back
Biggest influence: I’ve had many big influences, majority of them coming from Scoil (Liam Ryan, Ronan murphy and Tommy Naughton) but my biggest influence would have to be my Dad as he’s always had high expectations of me and pushed me to achieve them.
Earliest memory playing hurling and football: One of the earliest memories I have playing for Scoil was back in U8s when we played Templeogue Synge Street in Croke Park.
Most memorable achievement: The most memorable achievement I have playing for Scoil is captaining the winning u15s hurling Féile team. It was great to win something as big as a Féile with all the lads I had grown up with down in Scoil.
Advice you would give to any young player: The biggest advice I’d give to young players is to have belief in yourself. You don’t always have to give the ball off to the “best player”. Believe in yourself and your own abilities and take the chance yourself. If you miss you miss just focus on the next ball
Sporting hero: Joe Canning
Pre-match ritual: I like to listen to some music on the way to a game. I also close my eyes for a couple of minutes and try to envision myself scoring, winning the ball and fighting for the ball.
How did you get involved in Scoil Hoppers: My dad is one of the lead coaches for the Scoil Stars and he encouraged myself and a few others from my team to get involved and help out.
Sophie Galvin
(Pictured wearing the crocks with Kate McDonnell)
Position: Half back
Biggest influence: A couple of people throughout my life including teachers in both Scoil Neasáin and Reachrann alnog with Paul Keane from Scoil. My biggest influence has been my family especially my dad.
Earliest moment playing camogie and football: It was playing mixed underage with JP, Ronan and Liam.
Most memorable achievement: I think making the front of the evening herald after we won Cumann na Bunscoil.
Advice you’d give to any young player: Have fun! Thomas Gleeson told me if you feel good you play good and he is 100% right.
Sporting hero: Would have to be Carla Rowe and Hannah Tyrrell.
Pre match ritual: Think positive and always have a little laugh with my friends to take the nerves away.
How did you get involved in Scoil Hoppers: I have been involved for about 4 or 5 years now, my brother was in the nursery and Thomas used to give me little jobs to do..
Kate McDonnell
(Pictured with her sister Jessica – many of us know Jessica for her time coaching in Scoil Hoppers)
Position: Full back
Biggest influence: The Dublin team
Earliest memory: Scoil trip to Scotland trip to play teams from Scotland.
Most memorable achievement: Winning the Dublin Camogie Feile in 2019.
Advice you’d give to any young player: If you make a mistake it’s not the end of the world, keep your head up and try and learn from it
Sporting hero: Sinead Goldrick
Pre-match ritual : Eat something small and get my head in the game
How did you get involved in Scoil Hoppers: I was introduced by a friend
Orla Benham
Position: Full forward (I have played everywhere in the backs, goalkeeper and centre forward)
Biggest influence: My family, my Dad played for Dublin and my brother is on the minor and senior teams for Scoil. My Mam and Grandad played for St Vincent’s and my Granny also played camogie, so with a family of hurlers it’s no surprise I love the game!!
Earliest memory: Playing with John Kelly’s team but particularly the indoor hurling in Gormanstown.
Most memorable achievement: Scoring a goal from a free which resulted in our team winning the league final.
Advice I would give to a young player: Wear your Scoil colours with pride and listen to your mentors.
Sporting hero: Aisling Maher
Pre match ritual: Filling breakfast, check my gear bag, listen to music on the way to the match, be there early to warm up my free taking and then warm up normally with my team.
How did I get involved in Scoil Hoppers: My family have been involved in the nursery for years and then last year I decided I wanted to help and I have been coaching ever since.
